Museum of SkanderbegGjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu National Museum – Translation of the most common name. Djks1 (talk) 16:51, 25 September 2021 (UTC) This is the 5th page moved by User:Seemitfe without justification or consensus. The previous name was more suitable.[reply]

The most common name is Muzeu Kombëtar Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu. This translates to Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu National Museum. Therefore, I propose moving the page back to Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu National Museum. Djks1 (talk) 16:51, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Move but elsewhere? The sole English language reference uses "The Skanderbeg Museum (Muzeu Kombetar Gj. Kastriot Skenderbeu)" which suggests perhaps using Skanderbeg Museum and would seem a more natural phrasing. That said, the RM's current target does match what the official website's English language version uses [1], "NATIONAL MUSEUM “GJERGJ KASTRIOT SKËNDERBEU” which sure, switch the order and remove the quotes, so I'd prefer that over the current title, albeit as a second choice. • I would point out that there are several books in English that come up under "Muzeu Kombëtar Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu". However, "Skanderbeg Museum" does in fact produce more results than the ones I tested, at 290, and 248 results for "Skanderbeg museum" -gjergj, so I'd agree that's a more suitable name than "Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu National Museum". • Comment The museum is named Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu but is not dedicated only to him but practically the entire medieval period or at least before and after his death. So I would agree to Move in Skanderbeg Museum or Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu Museum.Bes-ARTTalk 08:24, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support it's better to use the official name to avoid confusion.--Maleschreiber (talk) 22:48, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. Just to clarify, I now support moving to Skanderbeg Museum instead, following User:SnowFire's comments and my subsequent Google books search. Djks1 (talk) 00:58, 5 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Renaming article[edit]

This article needs to be renamed by its official title National History Museum "Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu" as is shown in the museum's official website. I don't understand why or who came up with the idea to name it Skanderbeg Museum?! No such museum exists or has ever existed. There is a Skanderbeg Mausoleum in Lezhë but an actual museum called Skanderbeg Museum does not exist and has never existed. And no, it is not also known as Skanderbeg Museum. It has never been phrased or mentioned as such. Kj1595 (talk) 07:54, 24 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You've written an awful lot of sentences making the same false assertion. From the "Rreth Nesh" ("About Us") page on the museum's own website: "Muzeu Kombëtar Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu i njohur edhe si Muzeu i Skënderbeut dhe Muzeu i Krujës, ndodhet në Krujë dhe është një nga më të vizituarit në Shqipëri." (Roughly, "Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg National Museum, also known as Skanderbeg Museum and Krujë Museum, is located in Krujë and is one of the most visited in Albania."). Regardless, the museum should be renamed by its official title. Kj1595 (talk) 19:56, 24 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You're free to follow the instructions at WP:RM if you'd like to propose a move, but let me caution you in advance that if you solely base your argument on "official title", people will oppose - we have an entire guideline, Wikipedia:Official names, that states that Wikipedia does not honor the "official title" without reservation, but instead treats it as one factor among many. The fact that the museum itself says that "Skanderbeg Museum" is a valid title also weakens the case here - they don't say "some people call us this but that's wrong and we hate it", it just says it's another name for the museum. The reason why it's currently at "Skanderbeg Museum" is the WP:COMMONNAME guideline - that we should use the most common term, which in this case is also an official term. If you'd like to propose a move, I'd tentatively suggest challenging that - if you can show your variant is more common in English language literature, then that might convince people that a move is in order.
