Someone has been adding the comment "skip schumaker is the best coach ever!" to the bottom of the page. 75.16.247.208 03:13, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Stating that Skip Schumaker has an above average arm is an opinion, as is stating that he has proven to be a capable defensive player. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.36.176.4 (talk) 20:08, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

--Look at his outfield defensive stats, retard. Defense can be measured just as as objectively as offense.

^and those defensive metrics rate Skip Schumaker as a bad defensive player. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.86.29.150 (talk) 10:53, 5 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

2006 world series

[edit]

An IP has recently been adding 2006 to Skip's awards as a World Series champion. It's a bit complex of a situation. In 2006, he only appeared in 28 games with the Cardinals (the rest of the time he was with the AAA Memphis Redbirds). He did not appear in any post-season games that year. Skip was given a WS ring by the team. Most the sites listed in External Link do not list championships at all, other than MLB. There, only the 2011 World Series Championship is listed under Skip's awards. The Cards are pretty generous with WS rings, and I think all that played in the regular season or post-season for that year are given one as well as most, if not all, of the front office staff. So, should 2006 World Series Champion be listed under Skip's awards? Ravensfire (talk) 17:27, 28 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Skip has a ring from 2006. You don't get to decide if he was a champion. He competed for the team. He was on the 40 man roster but not on active roster. Jason Marquis is listed as a 2006 world series champion, he did not play in 2006 playoffs. By that logic if marquis is a WS champ from 06, then so is Skip. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ‎ 108.171.130.176 (talk) 13:11, July 28, 2015
Again, not disagreeing that Skip has a 2006 ring. So everyone who played at least 1 game (Ricardo Rincon, who appeared in 5 games totaling 3.1 innings got one). I don't know if having a ring is the sole criteria. Marquis at least appeared on the post-season roster, albeit for the NLDS only and didn't appear. Marquis's award page on MLB also leaves off the 2006 WS. I don't know what criteria they use for that though, probably appearing on the WS roster. So that's the larger question, what does it take to be a world series champion? Getting a ring (meaning Rincon, with 3.1 innings who was done on April 18th)? Being on any of the postseason rosters? Being on the WS roster? Ravensfire (talk) 18:39, 28 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
A couple of considerations: (1) The presence or absence of a ring is not a deciding factor. Some teams give rings to the trainers and clubhouse attendants out of gratitude for their work that year. (2) In my opinion, the deciding factor should be the 24-man roster, unless the player is on the DL (on the 40-man roster). I don't think every person on the 40-man roster should have "World Series champion (2006)" in the infobox.
In the spirit of disclosure, I am a fan of the National League, but a fan of a different team. Bob305 (talk) 20:46, 28 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Bob305: Just as an FYI, there's a discussion about this also happening at the Baseball wikiproject here on their talk page that folks here might be interested participating. There's also a link to an earlier discussion about this topic as well. Ravensfire (talk) 21:24, 6 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
