Soan PapdiSoan Papdi (film) – There exist a popular Indian dessert (Soan papdi) in the same name. Let There Be Sunshine (talk) 18:25, 23 October 2017 (UTC)--Relisting.usernamekiran(talk) 18:17, 1 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Not necessary per WP:PRECISE. The dessert is at sohan papdi, so there is no title conflict, and both articles are already properly disambiguated by hatnotes. Station1 (talk) 05:57, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 15:53, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Let There Be Sunshine and Station1: queried move request. Case of letters is not always an adequate distinction between article names. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 15:53, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    There is a spelling difference. Station1 (talk) 03:30, 25 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Station1: Per WP:COMMONNAME the dessert is Soan Papdi. Google itself is suggesting it while searching "sohan papdi" (News, All). Hence the film should be disambiguated and Sohan papdi should be moved to its common name Soan Papdi. It is also WP:PRIMARYTOPIC.--Let There Be Sunshine (talk) 14:54, 25 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
If sohan papdi were to be moved, that would make a difference. That should probably be proposed on that article's talk page. I agree the dessert would be the primary topic if both articles needed to have identical titles, but I'm not sure if that's the case or not. Many of the results of the second Google search you link to above do seem to show the "sohan" spelling. Station1 (talk) 05:37, 26 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
About the second google link, all links on first page shows the spelling "soan papdi" and did you not saw google itself is suggesting to search instead for "sohan papdi". That means the dessert is commonly known as soan papdi. So this page should be moved anyway, now or later.--Let There Be Sunshine (talk) 06:44, 26 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
On the first page of that link I count nine instances of "soan" and nine instances of "sohan" (not including Wikipedia). But I have no opinion as to whether sohan papdi should be moved or not, since I don't know enough about the topic. Station1 (talk) 07:31, 26 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I still don't see a single instance of sohan in the page, perhaps the location difference. Anyway the google suggestion implies the common name to be Soan. Sohan papdi cannot be simply proposed for move since this page already exists in the same name, so it have to be swapped. In order for that this page should be disambiguated to allocate space for the primary topic. And as Anthony Appleyard said, letters are not always an adequate distinction.--Let There Be Sunshine (talk) 07:54, 26 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Capitalization can be adequate distinction in many cases, provided appropriate hatlinks are in place. Please see WP:DIFFCAPS. In this case, someone typing "Soan Papdi" is more likely looking for the film and winds up directly on the film's article, while someone typing "soan papdi" may well want the dessert and gets directly to that article. In both cases, however, the minority who get to the wrong page can click on the hatnote to get where they want in one step. Since "soan papdi" gets less than a quarter of the hits of "Soan Papdi",[1] I see no benefit in forcing readers who bother to type capitals to go to the dessert's article first. Station1 (talk) 08:30, 26 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Note: Sohan papdi was moved to Soan papdi at 09:43, 26 October 2017‎. No objection, just noting it so that the discussion up to this point makes sense. Station1 (talk) 08:01, 27 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Films have different naming convention, see WP:NCF and MOS:FILM#Naming conventions. We both have agreed on Soan papdi being the primary topic. "If a non-film article already exists with the name of the film that you are trying to create an article for, disambiguate and use (film) in the title: Film Title (film)". Here Soan papdi exist, with only a slight case difference. You cannot know for sure that people will identify Soan Papdi as film and Soan papdi as dessert. It's too confusing, in order to avoid that we should follow the naming convention and disambiguate the film.--Let There Be Sunshine (talk) 10:09, 26 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - both before the move of the dessert, [2] and for the three days after the move,[3] the dessert has dominated the film with over 90% of the page views. The film seems fairly obscure to be honest, so I think readers are best served if both the capitalised and non-capitalised versions redirect to the dessert, with a hatnote for the film.  — Amakuru (talk) 09:25, 31 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - the dessert is often capitalized In ictu oculi (talk) 11:40, 4 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
