Recent conversations

[edit]

Some recent conversations have overstepped the mark. I am clearing this page of unproductive, forum-style discussion. The purpose of this page is to discuss sourced changes to the article. The year of birth, for example, is not going to change without support from multiple reliable independent sources, as we have a date from the subject which we have no good reason to doubt. I'd also remind everybody that WP:BLP applies everywhere and derogatory statements about identified living individuals will not be tolerated. Thanks. Guy (Help!) 18:25, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cleaning up article

[edit]

Hi all - I'm working on cleaning up this article a bit and replacing some of the primary sources in an effort to eventually remove the maintenance template. I want to get everything as by the book as possible but this is my first real foray into editing Wikipedia, so if anyone else wants to take a look and point out where I might have gotten anything wrong so far, feel free. And if anyone knows of any other good sources detailing any of the biographical information featured here, that would be excellent. It seems most of what I can find online either comes from her own websites or was copied directly from this page. Thanks! Thalomarre (talk) 05:46, 4 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You can look at Katie Griffin and Tara Strong's article for some ideas on how I kept some of the primary sources for the useful personal life information while using the secondaries to beef up the factual appearances. There's also Jennifer Hale but that involves a lot of secondaries as she's in hundreds of video games. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 19:05, 4 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the input! I've finally gotten around to reworking most of the article, though the latter parts probably still need some additional citations. In the interest of transparency I am a fan of Stevie's and suspect some of my admiration for her may shine through in my edits. While I've tried to maintain NPOV throughout, please feel free to make or suggest any changes where I left in any undue bias. Thalomarre (talk) 20:20, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of maintenance template

[edit]

Okay, so in the past couple days I've been reworking this article with more extensive citations to resolve the issues detailed in the maintenance template. As I'm still new to editing Wikipedia and want to make sure I've done everything by the book, I figured I'd post here before removing the template. Is there any reason I might've overlooked that it should stay up? I figure I'll leave it for a few days and if no one has any objections or corrections to make, I'll go ahead and remove it from the header. Thalomarre (talk) 19:15, 24 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I would take out all the IMDb references and look for the awards and biographical information elsewhere, perhaps at the award sites themselves. Otherwise it looks better. The Behind the Voice Actors site can only verify the checkmarked items. After removing IMDB you can remove those tags. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 20:06, 24 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I'll see what I can do. I was trying to avoid IMDB where I could, but in some cases it was the only non-primary source I could find. I'll dig around some more... Thalomarre (talk) 22:59, 24 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
And done! Thanks so much for your help! Thalomarre (talk) 01:02, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like it's got some new tags. I suggest finding more external news articles to cover her work on the shows instead of her self-published or agent-produced biographies. Also remove tv.com profile information unless they are interviews by the staff as tv.com is not a reliable source. Also some of those references to Canadian Encyclopedia should be replaced with secondary articles. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 16:49, 27 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

On that now - thanks! Out of curiosity, what makes tv.com not a reliable source? Is there anything in particular I should be looking out for? Thalomarre (talk) 06:50, 31 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
TV.com has sections that are user-generated, that is, anyone can submit biographical information about Vallance. So that part isn't usable. Exceptions are made for articles written by TV.com staff members which can be treated as regular news articles. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 07:12, 31 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Gotcha - I hadn't realized that about tv.com. I've replaced those and the Canadian Encyclopedia with other sources, so hopefully that covers everything as far as reliability is concerned. The primary sources are going to be tougher, as I was already only using them as a last resort when I couldn't find anything else. I'd tried to track down some of the original reviews mentioned on her Press page, but wasn't met with much success. Thalomarre (talk) 08:38, 31 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I feel I've made enough headway to at least remove the "unreliable sources" tag. I've replaced tv.com and the Canadian Encyclopedia as suggested, and the remaining sources are good to the best of my knowledge. Any objections on this?
As for the "primary sources" tag... well, how much is too much? The article still has some, but in all but a couple places they're now paired with one or more secondary sources that corroborate the more substantial details. Thalomarre (talk) 08:25, 4 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I've added a couple more sources and tweaked the article so that I feel it reasonably adheres to Wikipedia's policy on self-published sources as I understand it (no exceptional claims, no claims about third parties [I removed some names to avoid running afoul of this], everything directly related to the subject and no good reason to doubt its authenticity). Given this and the fact that I haven't heard any disagreement since my last post a few days ago, I'm going to go ahead and remove the maintenance tags. If anyone sees any reason to reinstate them, I'd appreciate them indicating where they feel the problems still exist so they can be properly addressed. :) Thalomarre (talk) 09:52, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Vaati, thanks for the input! Every other source I can find have Edie Mirman as the voice of Pteryx. Maybe they each played her on separate occasions? Do you happen to know of any sources on this that don't come from Stevie directly? I'm trying to get rid of that "too many primary sources" tag. :) Thalomarre (talk) 20:16, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ah - looks like I was right. According to listal.com, Edie played her for one episode and Stevie played her for thirteen. I'll go ahead and put Teryx back in. Thalomarre (talk) 20:21, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't sure on Eddie Mirman when I first heard Teryx's Voice, I got the suspicion that it was Stevie Vallance. When I first saw that she posted it in her Group on Facebook, I immediately jumped into Wikipedia and added the information in the Edit Summary as I find it difficult to add sources on Wikipedia...........still to this very day in time, =p --Vaati the Wind Demon (talk) 20:51, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
