Table Soccer (board game)Tabletop football – Misnamed (in four different ways) and had a self-inconsistent scope – fixed by some rewriting. (Meanwhile, Tabletop football should never have redirected to Paper football; total WP:PRIMARYREDIR failure.)  — SMcCandlish ¢ >ʌⱷ҅ʌ<  22:40, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This is a contested technical request (permalink). TonyBallioni (talk) 04:06, 24 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • This seems like one that should be discussed, as there is already a page named Table football which likely could be renamed Foosball, but still a lot of balls in motion (literally) with these names. Randy Kryn (talk) 03:43, 24 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • @SMcCandlish and Randy Kryn: procedural RM started. TonyBallioni (talk) 04:06, 24 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Not really against this, neutral either way, and would like to see the comments of editors who have an interest. Table football seems to overlap this RM, so what do you think about the idea of renaming that one to Foosball (although I don't know if that is the common name, just the name I know it under). Randy Kryn (talk) 13:32, 24 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    • Huh? If you don't care and are unclear, then why did you interfere with the RM/TR? This has held up various cleanup work I've been doing across these articles and is now going to hold it up for most of a week, for no reason. Foosball is not a tabletop game. It's played in a table. Whether Table football should be moved to Foosball or not is a WP:COMMONNAME question for that article, about an unrelated game which is never called "tabletop football" and which has nothing to do with this article (other than they're both indoor games that are miniaturized simulations of football). The tabetop games and foosball are already mutually disambiguated in various ways, and Table football versus Tabletop football is more than distinct enough under WP:SMALLDETAILS policy. There is no issue here.

      This article:

    1. Should not have "soccer" in its name, since we don't use that informalism with regard to association football-connected topics except when they have a strong tie to North America. And it's no longer limited to association football anyway.
    2. It shouldn't have "board game" in its name, because nothing within the scope of this article is a board game. Board games are a subset of tabletop games; the terms are not synonymous.
    3. It needs no parenthetic disambiguation of any kind.
    4. "Soccer" or "football" should not be capitalized; this is a general class of games, not a trademark.
In short, the sensible name of the article is Tabletop football.

And that's the kind of explanation of your thinking that should be a part of this. "Table football" and "Tabletop football" are very close names, and could confuse readers. My asking for a discussion on these and the other close names doesn't seem out of order, and provides more information for interested editors. Randy Kryn (talk) 03:40, 27 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. I am satisfied with the explanation of this being the correct generic name of the topic, and not confusing with other games that do not include "top" in the name. bd2412 T 18:11, 1 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
