American Republican party
[edit]Someone should make a page about the similarities of this with why American citizens are attracted to the Republican Party.190.219.52.26 (talk) 16:49, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
- Even if that wouldn't be considered original research, this book is best understood as part of Reich's broader pseudo-scientific works on orgone theory.
- The guy was so sex obsessed he though he could make it rain by draining sex energy from the sky. 2A06:A003:8008:0:C216:C1C2:DDC8:B75D (talk) 02:12, 4 July 2022 (UTC)
FDA book-burning claims
[edit]This book WAS NOT ordered burned by the FDA. It is common knowledge (so I'm leaving it un-cited) his book on Orgonne and cancer, "The Cancer Biopathy" was ordered out of distribution in the US for Medical Quackery eg they say he was claiming Orgonne to be a cure for cancer, which is also what got him thrown in a federal prison for leasing his Orgonne boxes to people such as beatnik William Burroughs Sr in other states eg. Mail fraud for that alleged claim to a cancer cure. Now every oncology ward in the US has a negative ion generator (which is what Reich's "Orgonne" is) prominent in the room. ~~Razer Ray — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.242.68.99 (talk) 21:52, 7 June 2014 (UTC)
Additional sources
[edit]A few quick bits I ran across, and had mentioned at Talk:Wilhelm Reich, but which are probably more pertinent here:
- Entry in International Dictionary of Psychoanalysis (2005, via Encyclopedia.com) [1]
- A contemporary review in Social Service Review (1947, via University of Chicago Press Journals archive) [2], but seems to be paywalled.
- Another of same, in Foreign Affairs (1947) [3], also paywalled
- Another, same year, and short, in The Physiotherapy Review (via Oxford Academic archive) [4], full text
- Ditto in American Journal of Orthopsychiatry (via APA PsychNet archive) [5], paywalled
- A 2010 retro-review from Yahoo Voices (via OpEd News archive) [6]; don't know if the author is notable
- Paper on fascist cinema, drawing on TMPoF, in a 2014 edited volume, Triumph of the Will [7], full text
- 2014 retro-review in The Indypendent [8]; may or may not be a worthwhile source
- 2010 piece in Counterpunch, relating Reich's ideas to the rise of Tea Party reactionaries [9], full text
- A sometimes-dismissive critique is laced throughout the 2009 book The Psychology of American Fascism (via Google Books) [10], seemingly fully text
Might be fruitful, if you have access to journal-search services, to look in more poli-sci and soc journals; I get the impression that Reich's being a psychotherapist relegated most reviews to psych publications, at least when the book was new, so that's most of what turns up in Google searching. I didn't try running a Google Scholar or Google Books search, just regular G'hits, to dig up the material above. Might even show up in news sometimes in reference to far-right reactionary stuff like Brexit and the Trump presidency. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 21:47, 2 August 2018 (UTC)
Real English Publishing Date?
[edit]The infobox says 1980, but the text scanned on Archive.org shows a 1946 publication date. Surely that's the correct one? Miserlou (talk) 18:18, 13 September 2020 (UTC)
- The source says "First English English Edition, 1946", so I've changed in infobox. The citation for 1980 is a dead link anyway, and I know that the book was widely read in the US in the 1960s. Miserlou (talk) 18:21, 13 September 2020 (UTC)
