Years Active?
[edit]i was just noticing with most other bands, years active is listed as [year started]-present, and not [year started]-2009, like it is for this page. Did the band break up earlier this year? if so, it would make sense to list is through 2009, otherwise it should be listed through the present like it is for just about any other currently active band. Everingham.Curtis (talk) 00:28, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
UK Indie Singles?
[edit]- There is no such thing as a UK Indie Singles Chart. We don't do it like the States' three-thousands different genred-charts - all we have is one all-encompassing UK Singles chart (like the Hot 100). Could someone more experienced than me remove this from the singles discography? ta. (BakerStreetSaxSolo (talk) 12:18, 6 February 2008 (UTC))
- If nobody objects I will remove it, as the hyperlink for "UK Indie Singles Chart" goes to exactly the same chart page as "UK Singles Chart", yet has different chart positions for TR. PN57 02:29, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
In a White Stripes book it states on the last side of the German version that Jack`s new band is called " The Provocateurs"? Why, what do they mean?
The Raconteurs played the MTV VMAs last night and were the only good thing about the show. Unfortunately, you could only get snippets as they kept cutting back to Jack Black and the rest of the very boring presentation.
- What does this have to do with the Wikipedia article? PN57 10:26, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Headline text
[edit]it REALLY DOESN'T sound like nirvana's nevermind-era. isn't innovative like the white stripes, it's just old boring plain indie music, the only new thing is that Jack White is getting bald. is he going to quit WS?
- Wiki is not really a place for opinions and stupid comments. Although you did have a valid first point concerning it sounded like Nevermind (a citation is needed in the main article) that is purley an opinion. The rest of your ramblings is not even worth commenting on. --Befuddled Steve 10:48, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
- Well a citation for this can be found - but whether its appropraite or not im not sure. I think the quote refers to quality and potential impact, rahter than sound, by the way. Robdurbar 11:14, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
Touring
[edit]Maybe I'm not getting this but are the scheduled dates really necessary? I can understand having the first ever dates they played (even the first couple dates per country), but not scheduled dates. Surely you would go to their site for the latest and up-to-date news/dates? --Befuddled Steve 16:41, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
Pronunciation
[edit]How do you pronounce this band's name? sharpdust 20:55, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
- Rack-on-tours. It's a standard English word, which came from French. Notinasnaid 17:48, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks! sharpdust 17:58, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
- In the UK at least, it's Rack-on-ters, which is roughly the French pronunciation. Mumfie x 17:04, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
- Rack-on-tours. It's supposed to mean storyteller. That's what i read in a dictionary.
- Them modern dictionary thingamabob ain't no good for them billy-bobs, they gotta go by what their mummies have told 'em. They don't have no use for no fancy book-learnin'... 62.106.48.243 (talk) 01:43, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Peak position US Modern Rock. I've seen numerous articles saying Steady as She Goes peaked at #2. I changed it to #2 and someone changed it back to #1. Could someone provide a source for this? Live Performances
[edit]Does anyone have a good reason why every festival they've played should be listed? piper108 03:47, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
Not really. I'm the one who added that section, but I'll admit that the list got to be quite a bit longer than I anticipated. I certainly wouldn't object to someone condensing or summarizing it. Charolastra charolo 06:08, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
I discovered this band recently by flipping the channels late night and hitting Austin City Limits on PBS. It seems that's a notable appearance, but I don't have the exact date. The performance was awesome; I'm an immediate fan!
I saw them in concert in september.. it was amazing, they are an incredible live band. It was the best concert I've been to in a loong time.
- Again, why is this constructive to WP? PN57 10:29, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Broken Boy Soldiers.jpg
[edit]Image:Broken Boy Soldiers.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 16:30, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
I personally think the raconteurs include many more aspects of psychedelia than blues, but psychedelic rock isn't listed. Why is this? Notably in the songs Broken Boy Soldier, Store Bought Bones and even Level... I think the psychedelia is incorporated both lyrically, and musically (the effects used, the keyboard and riffs all borrow a lot off psychedelia)
New album
[edit]Check the band's site, a new album will be out on March 25! --cholmes75 (chit chat) 16:47, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
Rock
[edit]Why are all the singles listed as rock. when it's alternativ. Im gonna fix it.
- Ok first of all, "what" sentences end with a question mark, and alternative has an E on the end, and I'm has an apostrophe in it. Second of all, The Raconteurs are a rock band. Alternative is a sub-genre of rock, and the band can be said to be part of both. It's not like 'rap' and 'folk' where you can't really be both, fool. PN57 12:35, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
Image
[edit]Anyone have the rights to a better image, preferably one that shows the whole band? The current one is kindof lame, but the one I tried to upload (a publicity photo) apparently isn't "fair use".Ringer7 (talk) 23:26, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
"Consoler" single only in Canada?
[edit]There is a footnote in the singles chart that says "Consoler of the Lonely" is a Canada only release. I'm not sure that is true because at least one radio station I know of in the Philly area that is playing it, WHTG at the Jersey Shore. Anyone else know of any other U.S. stations playing it? --69.249.174.137 (talk) 03:39, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
Oxegen Image
[edit]This article may be enhanced by one of my images located at Oxegen 2008. It's a more far-out, full-on image than the current one. --➨♀♂Candlewicke ST # :) 12:10, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
New Pic
[edit]I don't know what the standards are exactly, but maybe the main pic should include all the members of the band?
- There is nothing formal, but you're right it would be better and I've added a new image. --JD554 (talk) 07:44, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
The Raconteurs WERE FORMED IN Detroit Michigan!
[edit]FIX THIS PEOPLE! I get that Jack has a massive hard-on for Nashville, and says the band is from there, while all of it's members actually grew up in or around Detroit...he has NEVER said the band was formed in anywhere other then Detroit...the band now claims residency in Nashville due to Jack living there and as does Brendan. But they were formed in Detroit! -Thanks, Ben S. 75.30.144.127 (talk) 08:56, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
Now the article says: "formed in Detroit, Michigan" but the summary box says: "Origin: Nashville, Tennessee" this is kind of confusing. I guess most people think "formed in" and "Origin" should be the same place. If it is not this should be explicitly mentiend in the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.56.217.86 (talk) 20:11, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
"Supergroup"
[edit]While they are frequently referred to as a supergroup (i.e., a band consisting of members of other notable bands), is there any evidence that the Greenhornes were notable prior to the formation of the Raconteurs? I notice that the Wiki article for the Greenhornes was created after the creation of the Raconteurs. OhNoitsJamie Talk 02:12, 4 February 2010 (UTC)
I agree that they should be considered as a group, but objectively, I can't just justify making a decision either way as no definition of supergroup I find specifically states that all members must be prominent, either prior to the formation or currently. And yeah, stating Greenhornes as prominent as kinda on the edge. Epic Wink (talk) 16:00, 11 June 2014 (UTC)

Please fairly Applei your "Attention" to their televised Commercial
[edit]Their song "Attention" was used in an Apple commercial. It doesn't matter what side you are in any controversy of them so-called "selling out". It doesn't matter whether you like the song "Attention" or not. It doesn't matter whether the song "Attention" is representative of their entire oeuvre or even the album on which it appeared. It's just a matter of neutral objective encyclopedic fact that this band owes tons of its popularity to the fact that Apple used their song in a commercial, and that the historical arc of this bands' career, absent that commercial and massive TV-exposure, would be RADICALLY different from what it has been. (And that makes it worthy of encyclopedic coverage.) It's simply true. That even the WORDS "attention", "commercial", and "Apple" did not, before the date of this post, appear on either the article's page nor on this talk page smacks enormously of an attempt by the band, its management, or fans to sanitize a historical fact out of the record. If you (unlike myself, as I'm indifferent) don't LIKE it that this band "sold out" and made a commercial for Apple, tough tuckertons. It happened. You're only discrediting Wikipedia by censoring something that is undeniable historical fact. This is like when an actress advances her career to top billing by nude sex in several films and then, AFTER she has reached a compensation-level that she could have reached ONLY via that route, disavows those films that launched her success. That's not moral. Whether you achieved success by getting nude, or by making a commercial, or by having Trotsky murdered, own it. You can't hide, you can't lie, you can't pretend that you did NOT do what you did to "make the bigtime". You can't honestly "sell out" to achieve popularity, and then, while totally enjoying the fruits of that popularity, repudiate the "sell-out" by which it came and (ab)use Wikipedia as a vehicle for your hypocrisy.2600:8804:8800:11F:1C64:8308:33BC:E2D6 (talk) 07:58, 29 May 2022 (UTC)Christopher Lawrence Simpson
