[edit]I think with the most recent image upload this page has reached the point where it has too many images. Nothing against the person who uploaded the most recent image. I think it's probably the best one. IMO, It's time to start a category on commons and link to that, removing some images in the process. I'm willing to do the work on the commons side. However, as one of the images is mine, I'd prefer feedback on which images should be removed from this page before doing it. Votes please? Dave (talk) 15:34, 6 March 2014 (UTC)
- I would remove File:1000 mile tree West 2.JPG from the article's main space as it is not of the actual 1,000 mile tree. Centpacrr (talk) 22:51, 6 March 2014 (UTC)
- That's interesting because that's one that I expected people would want to keep. To put some context around my thinking, there are 5 images at present: 3 of the original tree and 2 of the replacement tree. The one you mention is taken from almost the exact vantage point as the image File:A.J. Russell - American - Thousand Mile Tree, Wilhemina's Pass - Google Art Project.jpg of the original tree. (as can be determined by comparing the canyon outline to the right of the tree in both pics, unfortunately the construction of Interstate 84 has scarred the canyon wall to the left of the tree making that comparison impossible.) As such, I was thinking those two should be placed next to each other. I'm leaning towards my own image of the new tree should go, and one maybe two images of the original tree should go. Of the images of the original tree: 2 are looking towards the east, one to the west. Dave (talk) 18:45, 8 March 2014 (UTC)
- I have rearranged the images to a more logical "flow", cropped File:1000 mile tree West 2.JPG to more closely match the perspective of the A.J. Russell view, and trimmed the captions for spacing. (The full information of each image is easily available on their host pages.) I have left your image where it was for now but I agree is probably the one that should go. The four in the present configuration I think should stay. Centpacrr (talk) 20:07, 8 March 2014 (UTC)
- Yeah that's fine. One last question: I've found 8 images that were already on commons and have categorized them, including one that I think is better than some that are currently on this page. The image you uploaded of the engraving is not on commons but on the local wikipedia repository. Was that intentional? (I.E. do you not wish for this image to be placed on the all project accessible commons?) or was that just an oversight? I was going to move it but wanted to consult you first.Dave (talk) 20:54, 8 March 2014 (UTC)
- Feel free to move the image of the engraving. I'm not sure why I didn't place it there to start with. Centpacrr (talk) 22:58, 8 March 2014 (UTC)
