University of Pittsburgh Library System Archives Service Center → ? – This bulky name is nowhere used, not even on the official homepage. Suggest University of Pittsburgh Archives Service Center or refactoring the article to cover the whole University of Pittsburgh Library System. PanchoS (talk) 22:27, 21 November 2015 (UTC) Relisted. • The article, Archives Service Center, University Library System, University of Pittsburgh has been renamed to its more descriptive and accurate title. You will find it now if you do a search. The references also contain the name of the archives and the references describe the distinction between the Archives and the rest of the Pitt library system. The secondary sources specifically mention this part of the library as a separate entity. An article for the University of Pittsburgh Library System will be drafted, then this article may be able to be merged with this future article about the libraries at Pitt, but until then, news coverage supports the treatment of this topic separately from the rest of the Library system. Please retain this article under its current and correct name. Best Regards,

Archives Service Center, University Library System, University of PittsburghUniversity of Pittsburgh Library System Archives – While the current name is slightly better than the original one, correct or not, it is still bulky and nowhere used, not even on the official homepage (please see WP:COMMONNAME).
News reports (2), other 3rd parties and even the library homepage refer to the library system as "University of Pittsburgh Library System". Secondly, the "Archives Service Center" is just the service center maintaining the archives, but what we are here describing is the archives.
I therefore propose "University of Pittsburgh Library System Archives" as the new article title. PanchoS (talk) 21:57, 9 December 2015 (UTC)--Relisted. Tiggerjay (talk) 00:17, 20 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Comment - This is interesting because I originally thought a shorter name would be better, also. I was asked to change the title of the article by the archives to its 'official' name. Pitt has other archives. The College of Music has their own archives along with the other colleges in the University. The other archives have their own names, and though I don't at this time feel inclined to create articles about the archives of other colleges in the University, the secondary sources really only refer to the Archives service center and not any of the other Pitt archives. What I mean is that it is not possible for me to establish notability for any other archives at Pitt archives except this one. It is a separate building, it is off-campus. The Archives service center just does not maintain materials, they restore, repair and digitized historical materials. I'm not sure if this is included in the article, I don't remember everything I wrote, but they operate differently than the other archives in that they are actively working to put as much content into Wikipedia as possible - that is part of what I do as a Visiting Scholar. It is inaccurate to say that the archives at Pitt are preserving and digitizing their content because only the Archives Service Center is doing so. So, though a shorter article title is a lot easier to handle, calling this entity University of Pittsburgh Library System Archives is not accurate. The official Pitt website is out-of-date and I don't even go to their website for any information at all on the Archives Service Center. Barbara (WVS) (talk) 21:49, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Relisting comments relisting to solicit more interest in this move request. Since there was a recent RM and subsequent undiscussed move, having actual consensus here would be preferred over a marginally discussed move. Tiggerjay (talk) 00:17, 20 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Additional comment - After reading the rationale behind the proposed move, I have to highlight the fact that other articles describing the different archives maintained by different schools in the University of Pittsburgh may be difficult to create if they all have the same article name. Having this particular article that describes this particular archives is lengthy, I realize. The titles of the other Pitt archives may also be lengthy to distinguish them from each other. The Medical school has its own archives at the University of Pittsburgh and it is not called "University of Pittsburgh Library Archives". The Graduate School of Public Health has its own archives and so on. Those these articles don't exist yet, I anticipate that the University will continue to sponsor a Wikipedia Visiting Scholar who will create articles on these separate archives to provide information that will make the encyclopedia better, more comprehensive and list the primary sources that are available for those wanting to research the topics that each archive holds. Obviously, I strongly oppose the move. I have an affiliation with the article since I am an unpaid Visiting Scholar with the University of Pittsburgh, but I have complete freedom from WikiEd and the University to create articles of my own choosing; meaning that I am not promoting the archives or engaging in using the encyclopedia as a marketing tool. Move[edit]

This article absolutely should be moved to a new name per WP:MOS. Recommend "Archives Service Center" as a Google search reveals no other so titled library archive center. Otherwise, split ULS from Hillman Library article and merge into future ULS article. CrazyPaco (talk) 23:02, 18 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Great idea we made the move. Please contact me on my talk page. I'm working with the Library system as a Wikipedian in Residence.
