Audience query.

Greetings - I read where Upstart Crow was filmed before a live audience, that it's not "canned laughter" in the background. Was this so? David Mitchell pauses briefly during some of the laughter, seemingly as a response to a live audience reaction. Do the Brit-coms ever use "canned laughter" (aka "laugh track")?
