Change of name

Westfalenstadion is now Signal Iduna Park, and changes are being taken to reflect that. NoseNuggets 10:41 PM US EST Dec 9 2005

First Line

I believe that first line should be "Signal Iduna Park is the name the Westfalenstadion carries from December 2005 until June 2011." instead of the present version that reads "Westfalenstadion is the name the Westfalenstadion carries from December 2005 until June 2011." --Setzerknight 02:23, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Signal Iduna Park → Westfalenstadion — The current name is a sponsored name that is, by definition, temporary. When the stadium is re-sponsored, the article will require a rename, and therefore hundreds of links will need correcting. Furthermore, the common name for the stadium is "Westfalenstadion". Even when it is referred to as "Signal Iduna Park" in the media, the name "Westfalenstadion" can be found nearby, as people are obviously more familiar with the name "Westfalenstadion". — – PeeJay 07:23, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

  • As far as I am aware, no such consensus exists. We use the name that is most common, full stop, that's the policy. See Veltins Arena (noone uses AufSchalke any more), Emirates Stadium (noone uses Ashburton Grove anymore), Philips Stadion, SAS Arena... Knepflerle (talk) 10:01, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

      • And your point is what, exactly? I was pointing out, correctly, that no consensus as written above exists. If one did, it would certainly have to cover exceptions like those. But we already have our consensus - WP:NAME. We don't care or second-guess why a name is the most-used. We don't care how long it was used for. We don't care if it is official. We don't care if it is sponsored. WP:NAME and WP:UE are unambiguously crystal-clear - we pick the most-used unambiguous name. Usage is the only thing that matters once there is no ambiguity.   • These two Google searches show that usage of Signal Iduna Park and Westfalenstadion is fairly even, with Signal Iduna Park just about edging it. However, I have found numerous sources that state that, unless the sponsorship is renewed, the stadium will cease to be called Signal Iduna Park after June 2011. – PeeJay 21:38, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

Nicknames

In the article is written, that the stadium is nicknamed "yellow wall". This is quite not correct. The Südtribüne is nicknamed "yellow wall". The nickname is even written on a banner above the famous Südtribüne ("Gelbe Wand Südtribüne Dortmund"). This should be corrected. For reference: picture 1, picture 2, picture 3, picture 4. When looking at the pictures it should be quite obvious why the Südtribüne is called "Yellow Wall" --Turbotörtchen (talk) 13:47, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

Westfalenstadion → Signal Iduna Park – How do you know its common name is still Westfalenstadion to make it the official page name? The German version of this Wikipedia page is called Signal Iduna Park. Every stadium as far as I can remember that I have seen in all of sports has the Wikipedia name of whatever that stadiums name change is. Some examples in Germany are the Veltins-Arena which was first known as Arena AufSchalke and the AWD-Arena which was first known as the Niedersachsenstadion. Here is a list of stadiums worldwide with naming rights List of sports venues with sole naming rights. It is the case with every stadium that I know of that has naming rights. Capacity (2012–2015)?

According to the infobox, the capacity between 2012–2015 was 81,264. I can not find any source for this figure and having followed BVB over these years, I have never seen such an attendance figure being reported. On the contrary, most sources I have found states that the previous capacity (or the current, since the planned expansion has not yet been done) was 80,667 or 80,720. One source even states the the previous capacity was 80,554. (The source we use for the new capacity figure states that the previous capacity was 80,720.)

The figures in the opening of the article contradict each other. The current stated capacity in the article would make it the second largest 'top flight' stadium in Europe after Camp Nou, not the third.81.108.165.3 (talk) 20:17, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
