Lead image

[edit]

Having discussed on Talk:Thousand Oaks, California about having a decent lead image, I started to wonder what would be a good one for Westlake. I know someone added the one of the new construction on Russell Ranch (just down the street from my office!) to the article, but I really don't think that would be good as something to "represent" WLV. So what would be good? The lake? City Hall (I don't even know where that is)? Costco? Kidding with the last one there. Any thoughts? howcheng {chat} 01:02, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

history

[edit]

no history section either? can someone yield some info off the city hall site and re-write for the page? cheers

Assessment

Article assessed at 'start' class. Missing history, economy, government, and other sections. Consider reviewing some of the proposed templates at WP:CITIES for guidelines on subsections. Review WP:LEAD for tips on writing a good intro section. Dr. Cash 20:01, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Logo westlake village ca.png

[edit]

Image:Logo westlake village ca.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Notable residents.... Hulk Hogan

[edit]

Just a point of reference, Hulk Hogan (Real Name Terry Bollea) has always lived in Pinellas County, Florida specifically in the City of Clearwater. AFAIK Hogan and his family always resided in Florida due to the fact that Florida has no personal income tax which he would have to pay if he lived in California which has a really... really... high personal income and property tax base. So unless someone can provide verifiable information about Hogan owning or residing in Westlake Village which can be substantiated with proper references I'd prefer that it be removed. The reference in the article shows his house to be in North Ranch which is a neighborhood in the city of Thousand Oaks and north of Westlake. Westlake Blvd extends into the North Ranch neighborhood which may add to the confusion. I don't have any information on what neighborhood they live in but the locally notable Hogans would be Edward J. and Marilyn J. Hogan. Fettlemap (talk) 18:16, 31 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Confusing Split

[edit]

This article leads with the planned community but does not clearly delineate which information applies to the planned community and which applies to the city. Maybe a consensus could be developed on the talk page so editors have some guidelines on how to organize and indicate the subject for the various sections. Much of the stats and politics only apply to the city but one would not think so since the lead is the planned community. CRITIQUE of the article

[edit]

I believe that this is a neutral article. It certainly does not give any opinions regarding potential controversies. When it describes the government, for example, it does not do so in a subjective way that favors or denigrates any party. It just describes the political composition: 33% Democratic, 44% Republican, etc. Overall, it does not appear to intentionally pay too much or too little attention to any one topic, other than those that clearly deserve more or less discussion. For example, the history section is notably longer than others, but that is because there is a lot to mention under this section since Westlake Village has had so much noteworthy history. Conversely, the geography section is significantly shorter, but it adequately depicts the topography and relative location of the city despite doing so in few words. However, it is clear that some parts of the page aren’t as fully developed as they could be. While I think that it provides some interesting details, e.g., that Westlake Village is the 6th whitest city in L.A. County, there are many more details that should be added in sections like “Climate.” This one-sentence comparison to the San Fernando Valley’s climate doesn’t paint a sufficient picture of the climate. What are the average temperatures year-round? What kind of climate is this called? These questions should be answered. Lastly, I would suggest to the writer that he cite more often. It looks like a lot of the information seems factually accurate, but there are a lot of missing citations, particularly under the History section, raising the question where this information was gotten.
