Change the "Culture, Media and Sport" section to say "For over four decades the town has hosted the Whitby Folk Week, and since 1993 the bi-annual Whitby Gothic Weekend for members of the Goth subculture." Change is indicated in bold, note it includes the comma after "Folk Week". Also, there are references to the NYMR service using "steam engines", this should be "steam and heritage diesel locomotives".

GA check
I am working my way through the Good articles listed at Places; having a quick look to see if they still meet the Good article criteria. I have landed on this article. After I've had a quick look, I'll leave a note here indicating if I have concerns or not.
In general, I see the process as this: 1) Give the article a quick look to see if there are obvious issues: maintenance tags, unsourced sections, excessive media, etc, resolving any minor issues as I do so; 2) If I have concerns, open a GAR to see how serious those concerns are, resolving them myself if they are not serious; 3) If during the GAR I feel that there is significant work to be done (more than I can or am willing to do myself), I will put the GAR on hold and notify the main contributors.
My aim and intention is to keep the article listed - I would rather the article was improved and kept listed than the article is delisted. Where a delisting seems likely due to the amount or nature of work needed being greater than I am able to do alone, and the main contributors are unavailable or unable for whatever reason to do the work, then appropriate WikiProjects will be notified at least seven days before a delisting would take place. - Article is good. There is an issue regarding the Weather box, if it meets WP:NOTSTAT and WP:EMBED, though that discussion is still ongoing. SilkTork ✔Tea time 17:35, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
Gunner Robert Watmore
I'm unsure of the notability of this, but I've uploaded a picture of the memorial for Gunner Robert Watmore which is on West Cliff. Thought it could maybe me used in the history section with a sentence about it (can't see anything about WWII and Whitby at the mo). -LÒÓkingYourBest(Talk|Edits) 19:38, 2 October 2014 (UTC)
- May be we need to note something on the war in the history section as it is thin on more recent history. Would probably be time to think about a History of Whitby article to expand on and give more details on the history of the town. Keith D (talk) 21:13, 2 October 2014 (UTC)
- Sounds like a good idea. I was looking for History of Scarborough for a template, but guess History of York is a good (if somewhat large) place to start. -LÒÓkingYourBest(Talk|Edits) 16:30, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

Merge school
I have suggested on West Cliff Primary School that it should be merged to here, as it is a non-notable primary, as per WP:SCHOOLOUTCOMES. Any comments gratefully received.CalzGuy (talk) 11:37, 27 September 2016 (UTC)
Reference problem
Hi, Ref 129 arrears to have several short reference links, but none of them are working. Any idea what these should be pointing to? Keith D (talk) 21:24, 8 November 2016 (UTC)
Grand Tour paragraph?
Do we really need the new paragraph about two bits of the Grand Tour being filmed in Whitby? It seems to me that it's not a very notable fact about the place and that the information is more appropriately available elsewhere. If it does stay I would say as a minimum that the bit about audience selection should go, and that the remainder should be shortened. But my real preference would be to remove the whole paragraph. Best wishes to all DBaK (talk) 12:27, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
- Not much reaction to this over a month, just one "thank". I've removed it. Do please feel free to discuss it here, though. Best wishes DBaK (talk) 12:50, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
Video
I would like to see a paragraph devoted to Video. The film clip for Simply Red's hit song 'Holding back the years' was filmed in Whitby. I was fascinated by the famous landmarks in the video and it took me quite some digging to find that the video was filmed in Whitby. Unfortunately I can't find official documentation of the fact but the Abbey ruins feature at the beginning of the clip as well as the port features. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 101.167.34.130 (talk) 07:50, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
Town Crest
I've just updated the wording under the crest to say they are three green snakes (coiled) and not ammonites. Although their are versions of the crest with them, and even versions of the crest with ammonites with serpents' heads apparently! Couple of sources for further reading: [1] [2]. -LÒÓkingYourBest(Talk|Edits) 13:38, 20 July 2017 (UTC)
- At some point I (or somebody else) should add a paragraph about the crest, and how it represented amonites in the great Victorian fossil-hunting era, but has changed since. sheridan (talk) 20:15, 22 July 2017 (UTC)
