Photo

[edit]

Can we use a photo from her Flickr page? - Sikon 08:49, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I thought of that, but she seems to put all her pics under "Copyright, all rights reserved." Anyone want to ask her to release one under an open license? - David Gerard 15:28, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I just thought of that. I'll write a message right away. (And I wonder what the heck does "© This photo is public." mean.) - Sikon 13:37, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
She has said that "Mozilla is working on an official photo". - Sikon 00:38, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Wow!, Maybe we the geek are cloned or something!, lol. On my city the geeks are almost like that photos --Tei
This is the only free-license-tagged photo on Flickr that's also tagged 'windowsnyder'. It's a really good shot of the back of her head ... - David Gerard 17:17, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Name

[edit]

Is it her real name? Because I can hardly imagine how a person could be called Window. - Sikon 15:32, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, it's her middle name. Her first name is Mwende [1]. Her real first name sounds like "Window" and she may have adopted the middle name "Window" since it's easier for people to say. - Mrsnooty 23:56, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nope. Her actual middle name is Window. Full disclosure - I work for Mozilla. - Shappy85 15:58, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Window's name ... is Window. Nobody calls her "Mwende". There's a cultural thing to it that I don't fully remember, but it was explained to me (by her) once. She has never been referred to in the press as anything but Window. There's a legal reason why her private family name is on patents and legal documents, but it is not what she chooses to be called. My feeling is, if you walked up to her and called her that, she might be weirded out.

Full disclosure: Window's a friend and was a former principal at my company.

Does Wikipedia have a policy about using people's "preferred" names versus their legal names? I think it makes sense to at least mention her full legal name in relation to note [1], otherwise why include the link to her patent? (There is not mention of her patent anywhere else in the entry). I've added a brief mention of her full name before the link, but since it's at the bottom of the page and not the first thing you see, this might be an acceptable compromise? - Mrsnooty 20:31, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

tqbf: I found this document from what seems to be Ms. Snyder's old school, confirming her full name. Without verifiable evidence that she's changed her name, I suggest we leave her full name in place. Mrsnooty (talk) 01:33, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's your call, but per WP:NPF and WP:BLP, you should probably err on the side of privacy. Note that you are kind of digging this stuff out of artifacts. --- tqbf 01:35, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Her first name is mentioned and usage explained in the USA Today story. No need to use primary sources. --The Cunctator (talk) 14:00, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Title

[edit]

Window's title is chief security something-or-other. Full disclosure-I work for Mozilla. - Shappy85 15:56, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Delete or Userfy

[edit]

Co-authoring a book and working for a public company does not make one notable. Article is too short and/or lists too few sources to demonstrate notability. Subject's name is also in question which may cause confusion. Recommend delete or Userfy. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.161.86.254 (talk) 20:09, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This article was listed at WP:CSD as a non-notable subject. I declined it as I believe notability is already asserted in this article, and I found other references that could be used.  Frank  |  talk  20:06, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

IMO she is very notable to computer security community. She's the co-author of very good book, and she's had notable positions at great corporations. --83.23.31.52 (talk) 17:08, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
