Opening Paragraph[edit]

Anyone else think the entire opening paragraph needs rewriting? What does, 'almost a real complete engine' even mean? Maybe I'll just do it myself tomorrow.

Confusing section[edit]

I put the {{confusing section}} template in the section Games, because it needs to be explained what it contains. Do all games listed there use the Wolfenstein 3D engine? Do all predecessors use the same engine as well, since they are listed in the same section? —Kri (talk) 13:54, 6 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

According to at least one section of the source code (https://github.com/id-Software/wolf3d/blob/master/WOLFSRC/ID_US_1.C) the Wolf3D engine is based directly upon that of its predecessors (Catacomb 3D for sure). Also worth noting is that that source calls it the "ID Engine."
The Rise of the Triad engine does have code that is obviously from Doom and has some strong similarities to the Wolf3D source (which is to say from a quick look I can't find any file that is obviously the same as Wolf3D, but structures and function prototypes are awfully similar) so I would take their word that it is indeed based off a heavily modified Wolf3D engine. The other games listed do indeed use the Wolf engine. 24.239.43.208 (talk) 21:02, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
