McArthur River blog link
[edit]Basically, while we could say that the bloglink (http://mcarthurriver.wordpress.com/) fails on item 2 in "links normally to be avoided", we'd really have to say the same about the Xstrata site, now wouldn't we - especially as to "misleads the reader by use of factually inaccurate material or unverifiable research." My brief eyeballing of the blogsite indicates that, while definitely an advocacy site, it's very well sourced and circumspect, nowhere near potentially libelous. I'd say does not fail WP:EL. --Whiskey Pete, 17:24, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
- While I have no opinion about the quality of the material posted on this blog, per WP:EL#Links_normally_to_be_avoided, "Links to blogs and personal webpages, except those written by a recognized authority" are normally not acceptable. I don't see why this blog should be an exception. Sandstein 16:41, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
- Fair enough; is the "Freshwater Campaigner for the Environment Centre Northern Territory" a recognized authority? Whiskey Pete 18:55, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
- As per their website, "ECNT is the peak non-government environment group in the Territory." There's no indication that their "campaigner", Charles Roche, is a recognized authority about the corporate structure, history, etc. of mining companies in general and Xstrata in particular. On the contrary, this appears to be a single-issue advocacy blog about one particular project of Xstrata this group disagrees with. While this is of course legitimate, it's quite the opposite of an appropriate external link. Sandstein 19:22, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
