Cleanup required?[edit]

User:Dennis Brown said in his edit summary when adding a tag "Good info here, but it really needs to be cleaned up and organized better." I added section headings and reordered, which I probably should have done when I started adding to the article. User talk:Dennis Brown says "Please don't bother leaving messages, I won't read them." He does indicate he's coming back to add photos. Maybe at that time he'll add some more suggestions. I was told I should probably just remove the tag, but if the article does need anything done, maybe someone can suggest what to do. other Yadkin River Bridges[edit]

This article title seems rather ambiguous. There are several Yadkin River Bridges that aren't mentioned in the article...like the Donaha Bridge (Hwy 67) (not to be confused for the one that collapsed), the 421 Bridge, the I-40 Bridge...all bridges bordering Forsyth County. The Donaha Bridge is, in particular, known as the Yadkin River Bridge...

User:Pianoman1123 hasn't made any contributions since starting this article. I don't know that it's a good idea to start adding other bridges to this article, because there are lots of Yadkin River bridges, and where would you stop? The I-85 bridge is the one most deserving of an article, though the Wil-Cox Bridge might be considered notable too. One more bridge that could be added if we were to go this route is the one on U.S. 158. That bridge had some major work done. Or maybe it was the I-40 bridge, or both. And one of those is named for someone famous. I could look back at the newspaper archives. There is no reason to not include all official bridges. The Yadkin River isn't exactly the longest river in the US, there is a limited number of bridges. Not all of them will need a paragraph explaining. As for the original author never adding more info to the article, that is pretty common at wikipedia. The whole idea is that everyone else will finish it. The original author is never expected to do more, as he doesn't own it. Add the bridges, then maybe someone else will clean it up, someone else will add more detailed info, etc, etc, etc. Dennis Brown (talk) 14:00, 10 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, here is my proposal. The existing sections of the article could go under the heading "Rowan-Davidson Counties". The following information could go under "Forsyth-Davie Counties".
The Kathryn Crosby Bridge, built in 1940, carries U.S. Route 158 over the Yadkin River between Forsyth and Davie Counties. In October 2007, English Construction Co. of Lynchburg, Virginia was awarded a contract to replace the two-lane bridge with a four-lane one just to the north; the $15 million design-build project also included rebuilding a short section of the highway. The projected completion date for was April 2010, six months earlier than expected. Work began in Spring 2008,<ref>Jim Sparks, "Crews to Start Work on Bridge," ''Winston-Salem Journal'', November 21, 2007.</ref><ref>David Rolfe, "Bridge work," ''Winston-Salem Journal'', February 9, 2009.</ref> but only two of the four lanes were opened by September 2010. My solution to the article name problem[edit]

I have an idea. Perhaps once the I-85 pair of bridges is finished, or even before then, they will be named for someone. If so, the article can be moved to the new name of that particular bridge. The old I-85 bridges, and the Wil-Cox and U.S. 29 bridge that will be used as detours, could be part of the article as predecessors. I'm not confident the Wil-Cox Bridge could stand on its own, although it's notable enough due to its historic status that a stub might be allowed.

It might be, might not, I'm not sure. Read the guidelines on Wikipedia:notability for more info. Regardless, at this time, putting all of them here will work just fine, then as enough info is gathered, it can THEN be decided if a separate article is warranted. I'm not sure what needs to be added, though to make absolutely sure we establish its notability, I do need to find the statement that if anything happened to the old bridge it would "shut down the entire East Coast". Chris, I missed your request for a draft. It is now at User:Vchimpanzee/Yadkin River Veterans Memorial Bridge, and more could be added as I find more details. I also did a draft for the other bridge at User:Vchimpanzee/Wil-Cox Bridge.
