Yakub Kadri Karaosmanoğlu → Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu – The spelling "Yakup" for his first name is in line with modern Turkish spelling principles. It is also far more common than the "Yakub" variant in both English and Turkish-language websites. This is purely WP:OR, but if the rest of his name is in modern Turkish (i.e., including a surname), shouldn't the forename also use modern Turkish? — AjaxSmack 22:03, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

- The article at https://tr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yakup_Kadri_Karaosmano%C4%9Flu which is linked to this one as another language version has fifteen references, but none are in English. I think that is the problem here. WP:AT#Deciding on an article title reads in part Article titles are based on how reliable English-language sources refer to the article's subject. (my emphasis) If we don't base this naming decision on the article naming policy, it will just be moved again, and perhaps again, and again... Andrewa (talk) 04:12, 18 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Support the proposal per this ngram of English print sources. A more careful perusal of the results shows that both forms are used in quality print sources. As I suspected, some of these are using the pre-1934 (i.e. pre-Turkish Surname Law/pre-Turkish alphabet reform) form, "Yakub Kadri" without a surname. The proposed title is over 15 times more common in Google web searches as well, although most of these are Turkish-language sites. My conclusion after weighing this evidence is to go with the more orthographically correct version, which also appears to be the more common form. — AjaxSmack 19:44, 21 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
