Rediscovery

When Vidya Dehejia studied them for her 1986 book Yogini Cult and Temples for the National Museum, Delhi, she recorded that the shrines were "remote and difficult of access", scarcely explored since Alexander Cunningham's visits in the 19th century for what became the Archaeological Survey of India, and frequented by dacoits, gangs of robbers, who used the temples as places of refuge unknown to the authorities.
is little confusing. Can you rewrite like "Alexander Cunningham's visits in the 19th century, who founded the Archaeological Survey of India" or any thing better.- Done.
