Xinhua use
[edit]@MarkH21: how are those not extraordinary claims? Any non-obvious claim that is only made by one source is an extraordinary claim by definition. Perhaps we need to add more sources instead of removing Xinhua but as it stands these are extraordinary claims on a BLP which are explicitly outside the appropriate used for Xinhua as defined by the most recent RfC. - An exceptional claim is something surprising or causing reasonable doubt. Whether an actor appeared in a particular film, was born on a given birthdate, or went to some school aren't generally exceptional claims. It's not a surprising claim that this actor appeared in film X or that actress appeared in film Y unless something was really off.The RfC/WP:RSP entry says that
There is consensus that Xinhua is generally reliable for factual reporting except in areas where the government of China may have a reason to use it for propaganda or disinformation.
These are pretty uncontroversial statements.I agree though that adding more references would be an improvement. That’s true in general. — MarkH21talk 20:32, 2 October 2020 (UTC)- All basic biographical information (birthdate etc) are apparently important claims. Perhaps you are right about a different bit though and the claim that an actor merely appeared in a film does not meet the criteria. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 20:48, 2 October 2020 (UTC)
