A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo, Marlon Bundo's: A Day in the Life of the Vice President
[edit]( Back to T:TDYK )
( Article history links: )
- ... that A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo parodies another book about United States Vice President Mike Pence's pet rabbit (pictured) by portraying the rabbit as gay?
- Comment: The two articles, A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo and Marlon Bundo's: A Day in the Life of the Vice President, were originally approved under this title. Marlon Bundo was originally approved under Template:Did you know nominations/Marlon Bundo. The two nominations were later merged. See below for the new hooks that have been proposed.

- John Oliver strikes again! I haven't seen the episode yet, only read about it, so I can only hope it exceeds Our Lady of Perpetual Exemption.
- To the review. Both articles are new and significantly large in prose. Both created March 19, one with about 3500 characters of prose and the other closer to 4000. Articles are well sourced, especially regarding the Oliver parody aspect in the hook. The plot sections are not, but plot sections do not require inline citations on Wikipedia. Articles are neutrally written. No copyright violation is apparent. QPQ is done. The image is public domain as a work of the U.S. Government, is of great quality at that size, and is used in both articles. The picture of the bunny is probably the best thing to come from the Trump presidency. Good to go with a hearty laugh. – Muboshgu (talk) 13:54, 20 March 2018 (UTC)
- While I don't have any qualms with this hook, I was wondering if it can be merged with Template:Did you know nominations/Marlon Bundo, so we can have three bolded articles in the hook:
- ... that A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo parodies another book about United States Vice President Mike Pence's pet rabbit (pictured) by portraying the rabbit as gay?
- Due credit will be given to GreenMeansGo for the Marlon Bundo article. What do you all think? (Pinging IronGargoyle; Dalsegnoalfine; Adavidb; Muboshgu; and GreenMeansGo.) epicgenius (talk) 17:45, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
- Works for me. It's not about the credit. It's about getting Marlon the recognition he deserves. GMGtalk 17:49, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
- Oh, wait actually. Isn't linking pet rabbit (which redirects to Domestic rabbit) to Marlon Bundo a little big of an MOS:EGG problem? Is there some way to work that more clearly? GMGtalk 17:51, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
- OK how about this?
- ... that A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo parodies another book about United States Vice President Mike Pence's pet rabbit, Marlon Bundo (pictured), by portraying the rabbit as gay?
- In any case, I guess we can ask the other three contributors, plus this hook's reviewer (Muboshgu) to see if we can do the alternative hook I mentioned above. If that goes through, I'll add your credit for the Bundo article on this nomination, and remove it from the other one so there aren't two different hooks for the same article that run on the Main Page. epicgenius (talk) 17:53, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
-
- I can add a third QPQ credit from this nom then. Marlon Bundo is newly created and large enough at over 5kb of prose. The only feedback I have on that is I don't think the subheadings or {{main}} is necessary in the "Children's books" sections since they are two paragraphs total and not especially large ones at that. I agree with making sure we don't create an WP:EGG situation with a Main Page hook, and I think Epicgenius's hook is solid. No copyright or neutrality problems are apparent within the article. @GreenMeansGo:, we need a QPQ for the article. – Muboshgu (talk) 20:09, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
- This is actually only the second article I've ever taken to DYK. Probably related to the fact that I screwed up the nomination originally in addition to not realizing I was nearly duplicating another nomination. Considering the last time I did this was more than a year ago, I'm not sure you really wan't me reviewing anything at the moment. GMGtalk 20:14, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
- I just realized that I made a mistake in the Marlon Bundo review by listing GMG as having done a QPQ instead of "not necessary due to having only one credit". And I made another mistake by not telling Muboshgu that I already reviewed the Marlon Bundo nomination, so maybe I get a double serving of humble pie . On the bright side, the Marlon Bundo article is good to go (as I mentioned at Template:Did you know nominations/Marlon Bundo), and I added GMG's Marlon Bundo credit to this page. Since the Marlon Bundo Books articles are also good to go, I guess the only thing left is for the original nominators of the Marlon Bundo Books articles to weigh in. epicgenius (talk) 20:24, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
- OK how about this?
- Can I nominate the Charlotte Pence article as the fourth link? We can append something like "by his daughter" after mentioning her book. I expanded the article in the last 6 days and am exempt from QPQ. (Pinging IronGargoyle; Dalsegnoalfine; Adavidb; Muboshgu; and GreenMeansGo.) wumbolo ^^^ 20:23, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
- Is there a record for number of articles in one hook at the same time? GMGtalk 20:27, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
- Seventy, I guess? epicgenius (talk) 20:29, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
- (OK, the 70 article hook didn't actually pass, but the same editor nominated a hook with 14 items that actually did make it onto DYK. epicgenius (talk) 20:29, 28 March 2018 (UTC))
- Enjoy. wumbolo ^^^ 20:31, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
- Ah thanks for that. I could've sworn WP:DYKSTATS had it and I was disappointed that it didn't. My personal high for a hook is ten articles. Which I did twice. (And a fiver-hook too, I forgot about that one).
- @Wumbolo: Feel free to propose a hook with Charlotte Pence in it (and provide a QPQ) and I'll review her article too. – Muboshgu (talk) 20:35, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) @Muboshgu: I do feel free to do that, but I can't think of any interesting hooks. I honestly believe that it's interesting to add to this hook that the first book was written by Pence's daughter herself. It was illustrated by Pence's wife, however, I don't find that necessary. wumbolo ^^^ 20:41, 28 March 2018 (UTC)

ALT3:
- ... that A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo parodies another book written by Charlotte Pence about her family's pet rabbit, Marlon Bundo (pictured), by portraying the rabbit as gay?
How does that sound? Coffeeandcrumbs (talk) 20:39, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
- I don't like using the word "but" as the sentences aren't contrasting each other. The only thing about this hook is that it literally says nowhere that we're talking about the VP and his family here. Additionally, I would like to have the usage of the word "another" checked thoroughly. wumbolo ^^^ 20:49, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
- How about something like "Vice Presidential family"? wumbolo ^^^ 20:50, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
- Yeah. But
- ... that A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo parodies another book written by U.S. Vice President Mike Pence's daughter about their pet rabbit, Marlon Bundo (pictured), by portraying the rabbit as gay?
- might be a little too long. I'm guessing there is a redundancy there. I can't pinpoint what it is, though. epicgenius (talk) 20:54, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
- The problem is the insistence on mentioning Mike Pence. Why try to inherit notability? All four subjects are now notable in their own right. 2601:152:4280:15D0:1863:B8E8:55D5:B971 (talk) 20:57, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Actually, on further consideration, ALT3 seems fine. There isn't really a need to mention the VP, since all four articles mention that Charlotte Pence wrote about Marlon Bundo and then it was parodied. epicgenius (talk) 21:00, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
- I changed "but portrays" back to "by portraying". Coffeeandcrumbs (talk) 21:03, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
- The redundancy, is, in, "A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo", which should be replaced with, "a children's book". wumbolo ^^^ 21:04, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
- ALT4:
- ... that a children's book parodies another children's book written by U.S. Vice President's daughter Charlotte Pence about their pet rabbit Marlon Bundo (pictured) by portraying him as gay?
- wumbolo ^^^ 21:09, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
- Just saying. Bundo is a "him". AFAIK "its" can't be gay. Also the level of collaboration here is super. I might have to hang out at DYK more often. GMGtalk 21:12, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
- Sounds good to me (and yep, some of the DYK discussions get really lively). I don't think any of the original nominators have objected, but maybe we can give it a few more days, because I go on vacation on Friday, and probably won't be able to weigh in. epicgenius (talk) 21:30, 28 March 2018 (UTC)

@SoWhy: can my article Charlotte Pence be reviewed here, or do I have to submit it separately? wumbolo ^^^ 08:17, 29 March 2018 (UTC)
- (pinged) @Wumbolo: Just like GMG's nom was merged here, there should be no objections on a policy-level to expanding this nomination to include another article if the article meets the requirements and all participants agree. Creating a separate nomination would be unnecessary bureaucracy in such a case (although you might want to create Template:Did you know nominations/Charlotte Pence as a redirect to this page). So if IronGargoyle and GreenMeansGo agree to it, I see no problem (I take GMG's comments as a yes but IG has yet to comment). Regards SoWhy 08:56, 29 March 2018 (UTC)

- On Vacation, sorry. I'm fine with merging more articles with the hook. If we added Jill Twiss it could be a 5-article hook and eligible for the Hall of Fame, just saying. IronGargoyle (talk) 04:41, 31 March 2018 (UTC)
- @IronGargoyle, SoWhy, Epicgenius, and Muboshgu:
we're three days late on nominating Jill Twiss but that article consists only of four sentences not counting the content spun-off from other articles, which we can (easily) expand fivefold. My only concern is that, when we calculate fivefold expansion, we obviously don't count content spun-off from other articles after the expansion, but do we also not count the content spun-off from other articles before the expansion?Nevermind. If some of the text in a nominated article was copied from another Wikipedia article, and the copied text is more than seven days old, then the copied text must be expanded fivefold as if the copied text had been a separate article.
wumbolo ^^^ 08:20, 31 March 2018 (UTC) - Well look what we have here :) Well done, Dalsegnoalfine! Pinging GreenMeansGo and Coffeeandcrumbs. wumbolo ^^^ 09:09, 31 March 2018 (UTC)

- @GreenMeansGo: don't worry, the article was too short anyway. (750 characters) wumbolo ^^^ 13:38, 31 March 2018 (UTC)

(I am nominating Gerald Kelley, and am exempt from QPQ.) Jill Twiss is a stub so I wouldn't link to it. wumbolo ^^^ 19:32, 31 March 2018 (UTC)
- Well, I like ALT6b because it's grammatically consistent, but we can't use it because it's too long. I think ALT5 would be the only one with acceptable length. epicgenius (talk) 00:04, 1 April 2018 (UTC)

- Yeah Monday came and went, didn't it? Tonight or tomorrow. – Muboshgu (talk) 23:53, 4 April 2018 (UTC)
- My concern with the hooks is that Twiss and Kelley detract from the other articles. We can keep Kelley if he is indeed a DYK article itself, but if Twiss is not, I would not mention her at all. Will continue the review shortly. – Muboshgu (talk) 17:36, 5 April 2018 (UTC)

- The two book articles and Marlon Bundo articles have already been approved above. So, to properly demarcate the five articles:
- A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo
- Marlon Bundo's: A Day in the Life of the Vice President
- Marlon Bundo
- The Charlotte Pence article is long enough and were made newly within the proper time period for eligibility. It is sourced throughout, written neutrally, and inline citations verify her role in the proposed hooks. The article is approved.
- The Gerald Kelley article is long enough and newly written within the proper time period for eligibility. The article has inline citations verify his role in the proposed hooks. However, there are unsourced sentence-paragraphs, which aside from being unsourced, do not look great from a MOS:LAYOUT standpoint. Also, use of "currently" is vague and "livened up the pages" is WP:PUFFERY. Article is not approved.
Not enough QPQ reviews have been submitted. This is a five article hook and I see two reviews that have been done. This isn't my first reminder of this requirement that hasn't been met, either. – Muboshgu (talk) 03:45, 9 April 2018 (UTC)
- @Muboshgu: I don't know about Marlon Bundo but I've been saying that Charlotte Pence and Gerald Kelley are exempt from QPQ since I have <5 DYK credit and I nominated them. wumbolo ^^^ 06:39, 9 April 2018 (UTC)
- Unless I'm missing it, there is still one more QPQ required. And the Kelley article is not currently up to par. – Muboshgu (talk) 21:10, 9 April 2018 (UTC)
- @Muboshgu: maybe you missed that GreenMeansGo is exempt from QPQ. wumbolo ^^^ 21:18, 9 April 2018 (UTC)

- ONLY APPROVED HOOK: ... that a children's book illustrated by Gerald Kelley parodies another children's book written by Charlotte Pence about her pet rabbit Marlon Bundo (pictured) by portraying him as gay?
- @Muboshgu: didn't know you could approve your own hook. Also, "their rabbit" is confusing, I'd prefer "her rabbit" now that we don't mention the Second family. wumbolo ^^^ 22:51, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
- It's the same hook as ALT 5, but I took out the "U.S. Vice President's daughter", which just complicates things. Briefer is better. I didn't change the meaning of anything, so I can't see the problem with it. Your point about the pronoun makes sense, so I changed it. – Muboshgu (talk) 22:55, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
- I agree, this new hook is much better. (Note: I added a credit for Wumbolo for the Marlon Bundo article, since he made subsequent significant improvements.) epicgenius (talk) 14:28, 11 April 2018 (UTC)

- I have pulled this from the queue as nowhere in the relevant articles can I find confirmation that Gerald Kelley is E. G. Keller. Gatoclass (talk) 13:21, 28 April 2018 (UTC)
- Gatoclass, I have added sourcing to the first sentence of Gerald Kelley#A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo, which specifically mentioned that Kelley is Keller (but without the source), using both the comics encyclopedia and Kelley's own website. If this is satisfactory, it probably makes sense to restore the hook to Queue 6 where it was pulled from, since the credits for it are still in place. Thanks.
