Heidi Grant Murphy

Created by LouisAlain (talk) and Gerda Arendt (talk). Nominated by Gerda Arendt (talk) at 13:53, 17 July 2021 (UTC).

  • Just a comment and not a review, but her teaching at said music school isn't really the interesting fact here, it's her performing at the Met over 200 times. Perhaps focus on that instead? Like ALT1... that soprano Heidi Grant Murphy has performed over 200 times at the Metropolitan Opera? Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 05:15, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
I don't understand. It's mentioned, but her specialty is returning to her roots. If we look closer, she had mostly supporting roles, often overlooked by the audience, so overall her impact on the music world may pretty well be her teaching in the end. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:06, 29 July 2021 (UTC)"
Gerda, I think you're missing the point here. Hooks don't necessarily need to be about the most important contributions or events in a person's life, more often than not they tend to be about one fact that is supposed to entice readers to read the article more (which can but isn't always an important contribution). For example, in an article about an opera singer who was a chemist before starting their opera career, what do you think would the general reader who knows little-to-nothing about opera find more interesting: that the opera singer has a background as a chemist, or that they performed a role in an opera? I understand that you want to highlight something special about her career, but hooks don't always work that way, especially when there are other hook facts about a subject that could be more effective in encouraging the reader to read more about the subject. • Comment - Here are two ideas for alternate hooks (both based on a New York Times citation: [3]
ALT 1: ... that the soprano Heidi Grant Murphy said that opera works on one's innermost being? – New York Times
ALT 2: ... that the soprano Heidi Grant Murphy is part of a classical music power couple? – New York Times Netherzone (talk) 15:21, 1 August 2021 (UTC)
ALT 3: ... that soprano Heidi Grant Murphy, who has given over 200 performances at the Met, said that opera works on one's innermost being? Netherzone (talk) 15:59, 1 August 2021 (UTC)
  • I really like ALT1 and ALT3, but the innermost being wording is currently not in the article. Can that be added? Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 02:15, 5 August 2021 (UTC)
I've also made some minor formatting changes to Netherzone's hooks. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 02:16, 5 August 2021 (UTC)
  • Comment - Thank you Narutolovehinata5, Gerda Arendt, Done. I have added the content to the article from the New York Times, such that it complies with the hook re: "innermost being". Please let me know if this works. Best, Netherzone (talk) 02:41, 5 August 2021 (UTC)
Almost ready to approve the new hooks, just that New York Times needs to be linked/italicized in the article, and that there's a bit of an unfortunate typo in the article ("that shat", which probably should just be "that"). Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 11:44, 5 August 2021 (UTC)
Please check again. ("shat" was likely meant to mean "she" but I rephrased it slightly.) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:51, 5 August 2021 (UTC)
  • Thanks for the edits. I'll be assuming good faith for the sources as I don't want to trigger the NYT paywall. I have a slight preference for ALT3, but ALT2 could also potentially work for that "mystery that makes readers want to read more" angle.
