Imelda Marcos
[edit]- ...
that Imelda Marcos (pictured) refused to buy the Empire State Building because it was "too ostentatious?"
- ALT1:...
that the friends of Imelda Marcos (pictured) include Richard Nixon, Muammar Gaddafi, Saddam Hussein, and Joseph Tito? - ALT2:...
that Imelda Marcos (pictured) wanted Francisco Franco to die so she can attend the funeral?

- Not really an April Fools hook IMO. We could run a hook like this if we were short of real AFD hooks, but it looks like we have a surplus this year. Gatoclass (talk) 05:59, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
- ALT3:... that Imelda Marcos (pictured) spent US$2,000 on chewing gum in an airport stop?
- ALT4:
... that Imelda Marcos (pictured) forced a plane to turn mid-air for cheese?
- Hmmm, these hooks still don't quite fit the usual pattern for April Fools - which is to misleadingly present an everyday fact in a way that makes it sound incredible - but the presented facts here, while not misleading, do at least qualify in the "incredible" department - at least for anyone unfamiliar with the topic. I especially like the chewing gum one. I guess we can leave it up to the April Fools setmaker whether or not they want to include one of these. If not, either would make a fine quirky. - Nominated same day as GA icon received. New enough, long enough, neutrally written, well referenced, no close paraphrasing seen. I agree that ALT3 is the best hook and, if not appropriate for April Fools Day, should be moved back to the main nomination page. Image is public domain and appears in article. ALT3 hook ref verified and cited inline. No QPQ needed for first-time nominator. ALT3 good to go. Yoninah (talk) 18:31, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
- Can this appear on the front page either on May 9 (Philippine general election, 2016) or March 31 (Women's History Month) if not April Fools? Imeldific (talk) 21:49, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
- I'll move it to May 9. Yoninah (talk) 21:54, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
- I just fixed "(pictured)" so the parenthesis is also italicized. Query: Imeldific, is Imelda Marcos running for any office in the May 9 election? I know she has been a candidate in some past elections. If so, we cannot run this on Philippine election day; it would have to be at least 30 days prior to the election, in which case March 31 would be preferable to May 9. - I have just checked various online sources: Imelda is running for a third term in congress in the May 9 election, so she clearly cannot be placed on the main page on that day or the 30 days before then. Yoninah, under the circumstances, I'd recommend Women's History Month, since this would need to run by April 9 anyway, or to wait until May 10, after the election.
