Lakeview Cemetery is one of Galveston's oldest and most historic cemeteries. It is also worth mentioning that it is privately owned. With about 2,130 headstones[1] it is one of the largest in Galveston County. Lakeview is owned by the J. Levy and Termini Funeral Home (John Termini). It is located between 57th and 59th Street with its north side along Avenue T 1/2.

Wreaths Across America

[edit]
Ball High's JROTC

One of the most notable events that occurs at the cemetery every year (since 2017) is the Wreaths Across America Ceremony on National Wreaths Across America Day. It is a veteran wreath laying ceremony where a member of each branch of the service steps forward and places a ceremonial wreath in honor of his or her branch. This is followed by the singing of the national anthem. In December of 2018, Cameron Ahmed, of the Awty International School was selected to sing the anthem. At this Ceremony, Ball High School's JROTCpresented the nation's Colors. After the initial ceremony in 2018 over 300 wreaths[2] were placed on veteran graves throughout the cemetery. The event was organized by Andrew Farrant who leads the group responsible for the event at Lakeview.[3] The local paper, the Galveston Daily News (GDN), has written several articles on the event. Maria Sickmiller described the event in the daily news as a "Great event! Thank you to the organizer and volunteers. God bless all the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice. We forever honor them. They remain in our hearts forever! We never forget their sacrifices. And continue to pray for our present service men and women fighting for freedom...our freedom! God bless them all !"[4]
