About
[edit]Hi 👋! I'm Dan Dascalescu, a former software engineer at Google, and the co-founder of Blueseed, the startup ship for entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley's international waters. Previously, I founded the Quantified Self Forum, worked in software localization at Yahoo! and in satellite communications in Belgium. I have a degree in Computer Science from the University of Galați, Romania.
Interests: slow travel, transhumanism, social psychology, life extension, fitness, improv comedy, self-improvement and the Quantified Self movement, emerging technologies (nano-bio-info-cogno), entrepreneurship, philosophy (ethics, atheism), critical thinking, behavioral economics, web development, open source software development, seasteading, digital rights, knowledge management, film, literature (mostly non-fiction), public speaking (Toastmasters), market research, humor, photography, travel, writing, debate, thought experiments, rock climbing, cooking (or avoiding it). Occasionally: camping, hiking, swimming, skiing, rafting, sky diving, ziplining, spelunking.
More on my personal wiki.

Contributions to Wikipedia
[edit]I've been a Wikipedia editor since 2005. I started with correcting typos and fighting spam and vandalism, then I gradually moved to researching references, creating sections and new articles. Here is the list of my contributions.
Wikipedia articles I created
[edit]- Agoric (2021-Mar-05) - smart contracts company
- Testnet (2021-Mar-04) - blockchain concept
- Blockchain oracle (2021-Mar-04)
- Steven Gundry (2017-May-10) - due to the hype around his Plant Paradox book.
- Double Commander (2016-Aug-03) - revamped the page.
- Restrictions on geographic data in China (2015-Apr-06) - because no Chinese GPS user bothered to clearly explain on Wikipedia the obscure but pervasive problem caused by GCJ-02
- Tencent Maps (2015-Apr-05) - another Chinese map provider that shows everything in the world but China as unexplored #culturefail
- Baidu Maps (2015-Apr-05) - Chinese map provider that shows everything in the world but China as unexplored, but has highly detailed SimCity-like pixel art renderings for major Chinese cities
- Google barges (2013-Oct-30) - four mysterious barges, two of which had superstructures that some thought would be used as data centers or Google Glass
- BAM Energy Group (2013-Jun-30) - company that installed the largest array of solar panels on a cruise ship. (mirror)
- Michael Aytes (2013-May-15)
- H-3 visa (2013-Mar-14)
- Fuqi International (2012-Nov-18)
- MELA Sciences (2012-Nov-17)
- Medivation (2012-Nov-17)
- Oceanic Six (resurrected 2012-Sep-15)
- Seed accelerator (practically rewrote it from scratch on 2012-Sep-14)
- Opus Casino (2012-Aug-28) - cruiseferry
- Mirage I (2012-Aug-27) - cruiseferry
- EB-2 visa (practically rewrote it from scratch on 2012-Aug-27)
- EB-3 visa (2012-Aug-23)
- Princess Daphne (2012-Apr-26)
- International Shipping Partners
- Quantified Self
- Tradable sector
- Darrel Ray
- Protect IP Act
- Knudsen force - funny how in 10 years, nothing of substance has been added
- MojoMojo - in the meantime deleted by deletionists with nothing better to do
- ZOC (software)
- Axure RP
- Customer Feedback Management services
- Oscillator (technical_analysis)
- Informed for LIFE
Wikipedia article sections
[edit]This is a list of some article sections I created, so I can easily keep an eye on the activity of zealous deletionists.
- Louise Hay#Ideas and teachings - 2022-Jan-28 (restored the Ideas and Teachings section of this deluded charlatan)
- DTS_(sound_system)#Play-Fi - 2017-Apr-12 because none of users of the multi-billion dollar wireless audio industry bothered to write about the open Play-Fi standard on Wikipedia (but of course, we have Sonos)
- Killifish#Evolved resistance to extreme levels of toxicity - 2016-Dec-13
- Valsalva_maneuver#Weightlifting - 2015-Jun-08
- StackOverflow#Statistics and Criticism - 2014-Feb-25; once again after it was removed
- Slingshot (water vapor distillation system) - drastically reorganized and updated the article. The amazingly little interest that this breakthrough invention has received from Wikipedians is perfect evidence of Wikipedia:Systemic bias. With cheap access to clean water goes lack of concern with small-scale low-cost water purification technology.
- General Electric - Focus Forward - Short Films/Big Ideas - 2013-Jul-09
- Silicon_Valley#Demographics - 2013-Jul-07
- Windows Movie Maker#Criticism - 2013-Jul-06
- Mike Gogulski#Bitcoin - 2013-Jul-04
- New York Mercantile Exchange#Leadership - 2013-Jun-15
- Hector Ruiz#Political views - 2013-May-11
- Punta Mita#Entrepreneurial ecosystem - 2013-May-06
- Chris Hadfield#Social media - 2013-Feb-24
- GitHub#Revenue_model - 2013-Feb-08 (since deleted)
- Right of first refusal#In venture capital - 2012-Sep-29
- EB-5 visa#Targeted Employment Areas - 2012-Feb-08
- NineSigma#Competitors - 2011-Dec-29 (deleted by folks with nothing better to do)
- Economy of the Bahamas#Taxation - 2011-Dec-23
- B visa#Cost, B visa#Validity period and duration of stay - 2011-Nov-05
- URL redirection#Removing_referer_information - 2011-Jun-25 (since deleted)

- Self-fulfilling prophecies in sports - 2011-Jun-02
- Comparison of photo sharing websites - 2008-Sep-17
Wikipedia categories
[edit]- Activity trackers - 2014-04-11
- Places with bioluminiscence - 2013-Dec-04 (though it doesn't show in the logs)
Wikipedia proposals
[edit]- Notability of FOSS - current draft, work in progress
- RFC:Notability of free open source software - older version
