Global India Business Meeting[edit]

In June 2009 Horasis, an independent Swiss Think tank, launched the 1st Global India Business Meeting[1][2] in Munich, Germany. More than 250 business and political leaders from 20 countries discussed the theme of "Overcoming the Crisis - Opportunities for India." They debated India's economic situation as a whole as well as the risks and opportunities for Indian companies in expanding globally.[3] Political participants included the Indian Minister of Commerce and Industry, Anand Sharma,[4] the Secretary-General of the UN Confrence on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Supachai Panitchpakdi, the Minister for Large and Medium Industries of Karnataka, Murugesh R. Nirani,[5] and the Deputy Minister-President and Economics Minister of the State of Bavaria, Martin Zeil.[6]

Business leaders who attended the Global India Business Meeting 2009 included as co-chairs Prince Abdullah bin Mosa'ad, Chairman of Saudi Paper Manufactoring Co, Rahul Bajaj,[3] Chairman of Bajaj Auto, Peter Bauer,[7] CEO of Infineon, Claude Beglé, former Chairman of Swiss Post, Pramod Bhasin,[3] CEO of Genpact, Gerhard Cromme, Chairman of Siemens and ThyssenKrupp, James Goodnight, CEO of SAS, Kris Gopalakrishnan, CEO of Infosys, Alan Hassenfeld, Chairman of Hasbro, Prakash Hinduja, Chairman of Hinduja Group, Baba Kalyani, Chairman of Bharat Forge, Khater Massaad, CEO of RAK Investment, Liu Jiren, Chairman of Neusoft, Nasser Munjee, Chairman of Development Credit Bank, G V Krishna Reddy, Chairman GVK, Druhv M. Sawhney,Chairman of Triveni, and Harshpati Singhania, President of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). The event was co-hosted by the State of Bavaria,[8] with Messe München International, the Bavarian business association "vbw",[9] and the FICCI.

The 2nd Global India Business Meeting[10][11][12] was held June 2010 in Madrid, Spain, and featured more than 300 participants including the Indian Minister of Commerce and Industry Anand Sharma,[13][14] who firmly called for an EU-India Free Trade Agreement,[15] and Miguel Sebastián,[16] Spanish Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism. In addition Prince Felipe of Spain attended the meeting.[17][18] Co-chairs of this event were Claude Beglé,[19] Subodh Bhargava, Chairman of Tata Communications, Carla Cico, CEO of Rivoli, Dinesh Dhamija, founder and Chairman of Copper Beech Group, Antonio Escámez, Chairman of Spain-India Council Foundation, Sunil Godhwani, Chairman of Religare, CP Gurnani, CEO of Mahindra Satyam, Prakash Hinduja, Rana Kapoor,[20] CEO of Yes Bank, Rajive Kaul, Chairman of Nicco Group, Khater Massaad, Rajan Bharti Mittal,[13][21] Vice Chairman Bharti Enterprises, G V Krishna Reddy, and Dhruv M Sawhney. The co-hosts were the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), Casia Asia,[22] the Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade,[23] the Municipality of Madrid, and the Region of Madrid.[24]


The 2011 Global India Business Meeting will take place in Naples, Italy.[25]
