Biography

1949-1970

Rosemarie Schwab was born in Bingen. At the age of nine, she recorded her first song "Ja die Dicken sind ja so gemütlich" as Die kleine Rosemarie. It was no major commercial success. in 1958, she also appeared in the film "Die Straße". Over the following years she would release many records and she also appeared in many singing competitions. Her first chart success came in 1965, when the single "Geh nicht den Weg" peaked at #36. In 1969, she took part in the Grand Prix RTL International with the song "Die Legende der Liebe". The same year, she reached the single charts again - "Das hat die Welt noch nicht erlebt" peaked at #19. Her first major was achieved in 1970 with the song "Arizona Man". It peaked at #9 in the single charts and remains her only top ten hit to date . The same year, she took part in the German national final for the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time. She was chosen to take part in the last minute - Edina Pop had to withdraw from the competition as she fell ill and Mary Roos was chosen to sing "Bei jedem Kuss" instead. She finished joint second among the six participants; nevertheless, the song was never recorded.

1971-1983

In the early 70s, Mary Roos got her own TV show on German television. At the same time, she tried to start a career in France, where she played the lead role in the musical "Un enfant dans la ville" next to Michel Fugain. In 1972, she entered the German national final for the Eurovision Song Contest the second time. With her song "Nur die Liebe läßt uns leben" she finished second after the first round of voting only one point behind Cindy & Bert but got the overall victory after the second round of voting. After the reprise of the winning song, she was booed off stage and her victory caused a stir in Germany as she was not the winner of the first round of voting and because of her mediocre vocal performance. In a later interview, she stated that she did not expect to win at all and that she was already removing her make-up when she was called back on stage. However, at the Eurovision Song Contest 1972 in Edinburgh, she finished third. The song was a minor hit in Germany peaking at #17 in the single charts . Over the 1970s she kept releasing singles and albums and was a frequent guest in music shows, although she did not have any major hits anymore. In 1975, she took part in the German national final again and finished third with "Eine Liebe ist wie ein Lied". Her fourth participation in the national final took place in 1982, where she competet among others against her then husband Werner Böhm. She performed the duet "Lady" with David Hanselmann and finished eighth out of the twelve participants, however, the song was commercially the second most succesful one of the year.

1984-today

In 1984, Mary Roos took part in the German national final for the Eurovision Song Contest for the fifth and last time so far and she sang herself to victory again: "Aufrecht geh'n" narrowly won the ticket to the Eurovision Song Contest 1984. At the contest, the song only received 34 points and finished 13th among the 19 contestants. Mary Roos was blamed for a bad vocal performance which she says was caused by an emotional crisis after her seperation from her husband Werner Böhm. "Aufrecht geh'n" would also be her last appearance in the single charts until 1999, when she released a German cover version of Cher's song "Believe" ("Leider lieb ich dich noch immer") . Today, she still has many live concerts and is said to be one of the most-booked singers of the schlager genre.

Personal life

From 1981 to 1989, Mary Roos was married to party singer Werner Böhm (known as Gottlieb Wendehals). She is the sister of Tina York, another popular schlager singer in Germany.

The Netherlands were represented in the Eurovision Song Contest 1998 by Edsilia Rombley with the song Hemel en aarde written by Eric van Tijn and Jochem Fluitsma. Song and singer were chosen during a national final called Nationaal Songfestival.

The national final took place on March 8 1998 at the RAI in Amsterdam. For the first time, the show was hosted by Linda de Mol and Paul de Leeuw. Four famous Dutch composeres had been invited to compose one song each and another four songs were selected by a jury from about 100 songs that were submitted to broadcaster NOS. Eventually, eight music acts took part, each of them presenting one song. All performers were accompanied by a live orchestra, which was conducted by Dick Bakker who had already written and conducted various Dutch entries in the contest.

• At the beginning, the hosts performed a medley of the four Dutch Eurovision Song Contest winning songs: Net als toen (1957), Een beetje (1959), De troubadour (1969) and Ding-A-Dong (1975). That performance was followed by another two classics: Waterloo(Sweden 1974) and Eres tú (Spain 1973).

Ross and Rachel argue, Ross says that he is with Julie and it's too late for a relationship between them.

Rachel seems to be stood up by her prom date, so Ross plans to take her to prom instead, but Rachel's date shows up before she learns of Ross' plans. Ross and Rachel attempt to have their first real date, but it's difficult for Rachel to overcome their long friendship. Ross has to go to the museum, so Rachel goes with him and they spend the night there. The episode introduces Tom Selleck in the recurring guest role of Dr. Richard Burke, which led to an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series.

Richard doesn't want to have children, but Monica does, so she breaks up with him. (The sub-plot where Joey has to kiss a man was originally intended to be a story about Joey auditioning for the role of an uncircumcised man. The rest of the group then came up with various ways of making him look the part. The story was changed on the advice of network censors, who thought it was tasteless but it was later used in "The One with Ross and Monica's Cousin".)

Monica dates Chip Matthews, Rachel's prom date, and dumps him after she realizes he has no level of maturity.

Chandler dates Rachel's boss, Joanna, again and finally breaks up with her after she handcuffs him to her office chair. Monica caters a party for her mother, but while preparing the food she loses a fake finger nail in the quiche, ruining her plans to impress her critical mother.

Joey helps the super with his ballroom dancing skills in order to help Monica and Rachel keep their illegal apartment. Chandler wants to quit the gym, but can't because of the attractive staff. Their later plan is to cut the gym from their financial source, so they attempt to quit their bank but because of the attractive female staff there, they end up with a joint-checking account.

Chandler starts to fall in love with Joey's new girlfriend, Kathy, after he flirted with her in the coffee house, unaware Joey was dating her as well. Phoebe's voice becomes stuffy after she catches a cold, which gives her a new voice for singing and finds that she likes her "new" singing voice better.

Ross's new girlfriend seems nearly perfect until he visits her house and discovers that her apartment is incredibly dirty. Chandler buys Kathy an early edition of her favourite childrens' book for her birthday and doesn't know what to do when he finds out Joey (then dating Kathy) was going to buy her something very meaningless and inexpensive.

Chandler must decide between the girl of his dreams, Kathy, and his best friend Joey when he and Kathy share a secret and secluded passionate kiss. Chandler, feeling guilty about his kiss with Kathy, buys new furniture and appliances for his and Joey's apartment to fill in the empty spaces left after the robbery. When Joey finds out about the kiss, he attempts to punish Chandler five years. Ross starts playing the keyboard again for the first time since college and reinvents his musical art (or as Ross calls them, "wordless sound poems").

Chandler agrees to spend Thanksgiving in a shipping crate as a punishment from Joey for kissing Kathy. She then invites him over for Thanksgiving, of which the others do not approve of. After Kathy visits, Joey forgives Chandler and tells him to go after her before she leaves.

Chandler and Ross's friend "Gandalf" is planning to come to town. They are very excited until he cancels. Monica has to choose between a head chef job and catering with Phoebe, and helps Phoebe with ideas for a business of her own.

Rachel has a crush on Joshua, a handsome customer and even ponders asking him out.

Joey has to go to Charlton Heston's new movie but smells awful because of a three day fishing trip with his father previously and never had time to shower. Chandler can't get over Kathy, and remains in his barcalounger, in his sweat pants.

Monica obsesses over a light switch that doesn't seem to control anything, and even cuts the wall open herself to follow the wire after an electrician, the super and the electrical plans to the building.

When Phoebe leaves, it is revealed it was just a plan to get her to choose 'Chandler'.

While Chandler and Joey are at the Knicks game, Monica and Rachel switch the apartments back, despite the guys winning the tickets and the right to keep the apartment fair and square. Ross proposes to Emily and she accepts.

He doesn't accept, and when Rachel puts on her wedding dress at Monica's, the three of them hear a knock on the door thinking it's Chandler. It's actually Joshua, who get s freaked out with Rachel, Phoebe and Monica in wedding dresses and leaves. Chandler takes Joey to a sleep clinic because he snores all the time and meets a girl who talks in her sleep. She later is in bed with Chandler and screams really loud and wakes up Joey whilst asleep.

Ross and Emily are sending their wedding invitations; Emily doesn't think it's a good idea to invite Rachel, but Ross invites her anyway.
