Third World Traveler cleanup project
After discussion wif User:Bobrayner, it became clear that we have a lot of work to do cleaning up encyclopedia articles that contained links to Third World Traveler. Third World Traveler seems to be in the habit of reproducing articles and excerpts from books without necessarily owning the copyright. Therefore, if we want to cite these articles and books, we shouldn't link to Third World Traveler copies of these books if doing so would constitute contributory copyright violation.
Bobrayner has already done a lot of the work in removing citations that link to copyright violations. But we can help by fixing up citations that included Third World Traveler links, so that sources are still referenced without violating copyright. We can also work to find other sources for the claims that use Third World Traveler citations. And finally, we can work to improve these articles citing Third World Traveler, many of which seem to be somewhat neglected within the encyclopedia.
So here's a list of pages that need attentionnnn, found thanks to Bobrayner. Feel free to comment, strikeout, etc.:
- Eugene V. Debs
- William Blum
- James K. Galbraith
- American Center for International Labor Solidarity
- Carnival Against Capital
- Bureau of Indian Affairs
- Puerto Rican Nationalist Party Revolts of the 1950s
- World League for Freedom and Democracy
- 2000 Cochabamba protests
- Cadets of the Republic (Puerto Rico)
- List of Unification Church affiliated organizations
- Mission District, San Francisco —
- Removal of link was appropriate; the article discussed bad conditions at Pelican Bay State Prison and how they might contribute to cycles of gang violence in San Francisco—however it does not mention the Mission specifically, so inclusion would probably only be appropriate if the link were established. I replaced the reference with an LA Times article (a little more in depth than the one previously provided from The Atlantic). In general the citations are reasonable in the first part of the article; the second part is full of promotional external links. groupuscule (talk) 04:37, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
- Long, sprawling article that still manages to omit a lot of details. And has some citation problems. So far I just focused on the small section (Clark Amendment) that used the Third World Traveler URL. Restored the citation to a book by Jane Hunter, without the offending URL. Moved away another citation for the claim that wasn't even about the right decade. Did a quick web search, found another source, added that. Removed some other inappropriate citations, so this article still needs some research work to back up major claims.groupuscule (talk) 00:55, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
