Muhammad Junaid (Born in Lahore, 1984) is a Pakistani news anchor and reporter, currently working for Geo News,[1] Pakistan. He was formerly associated with Express News as an anchor and associate producer news. His notable achievements, as a reporter, include reporting from five different cities for six days, during the Lawyer’s Long March in March, 2009 and special reporting from NWFP and Punjab during Pakistan Floods of 2010 for Geo News. He is also known for special reporting of Hunza landsliding, from Gilgit, Baltistan, for three weeks.

Personal Life[edit]

Junaid was born to Shiekh Zafar Hayat (An Administrator by Profession) and Rizwana Jabeen. He is single and currently resides in Karachi.

Education[edit]

Junaid did his early schooling and Matriculation in Science subjects but later studied Arts, English Literature and Psychology.

He graduated with a BA degree, from Forman Christian College, Lahore (A Chartered University) in Journalism and Political Science.[2] During his graduation, the extra curricular activities that he was a part of, displays his current professional alignment. As a student of Forman Christian College, he was selected for the position of a Senior/Chief Prefect for which he received a special award from his college for his services in that capacity. Also, he was selected for the positions of the President of Journalism Society and as the Media Manager of the Dramatic Club. Moreover, he was one of the student speakers of Formanites Alumni Association Annual Meeting 2005 where he had the opportunity to speak in front of a large audience. Junaid also performed in an Urdu play named ‘Zara Socho’ for his college in 2004. Junaid received several American delegations as student representative for his college. The guests included American Scholars and also Ryan Clark Crocker (United States Ambassador to Pakistan) in 2004.

From 2005-2007, Junaid did his M.S. in Communication Studies, with specialization in Electronic Media: Radio & Television from The Institute of Communication Studies, University of Punjab, Lahore. He joined the Publication Authority of his university as an editor and also worked as a presenter / assistant producer of Punjab University Radio (FM 104.6) from November 2005 to July 2007. He had had the opportunity to host the 3rd Anniversary Ceremony of Punjab University Radio FM 104.6 on June 6, 2007. He also hosted a two day grand ceremony during the anniversary celebrations in February, 2007.

Career[edit]

Junaid’s affiliation with Express News Television as an anchor & associate producer news in August 2007 marked the beginning of his career. He was associated with the channel till October 2009,[3] where his most prominent achievements were the coverage of the Lawyer's Long March in 2009 from five cities for six days, and the production of a special report on US Voter in Pakistan for American Elections, 2008.

He joined Geo News, in October, 2009.[4] With Geo News, his most noteworthy experiences consist of a special reporting from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab during floods of 2010 in Pakistan and another one during Hunza land sliding, from Gilgit Baltistan during a course of three weeks. He also attended a special course of ‘Diction & Improvisation’ on behalf of Geo Television Network by Mr. Zia Mohyeddin at National Academy of Performing Arts, Karachi, from 12 October, 2011 to 12 January, 2012.

He has also worked, voluntarily with Red Crescent Blood Society at F.C.College for collecting blood.

Junaid had a brief stint with print journalism and has two news reports (Daily Nawa-i-Waqt) to his credit.

Certificates/Awards[edit]

Junaid received a Certificate of Appreciation for his post as a Presenter from Punjab University Radio (FM 104.6), a Certificate of Distinction for his work as a Senior Vice President for Journalism Society of Forman Christian College and a Special Certificate of Participation from Rafi Peer Theater Workshop & 4th Youth Festival.

He was awarded the achievement award of 2008 (Institute of Communication Studies, University of the Punjab) by Majeed Nizami of Nawa-i-Waqt Group & Dr. Mughees-ud-din Sheikh.

He also received a prestigious Peace Award in May, 2009 by the Interfaith Peace Council of Pakistan, for the promotion of peace in society.

Interviews/Publicity[edit]

The very first interview of Muhammad Junaid as a Broadcast Journalist was published in Forman Christian College Magazine “Folio[5] [6][7]in 2010 followed by an interview in ‘Ahwal-e-Lahore‘, a monthly magazine of City Government, Lahore in December 2011.[8] [9][10]In January 2012, he has another interview published in Herald’s January issue.[11]
