Notice

The article Mark Bezos has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Only notable for WP:ONEEVENT (an event to which he contributed nothing but his presence) and lacks any real coverage outside this - it's hard to find pre-event coverage but very little exists, and even from what there is post-event, he doesn't appear to have done things that would have earned the sort of WP:SIGCOV we'd be looking for. His relationship to his notable brother is not directly relevant (WP:BIOFAMILY). Also consider WP:BLP1E.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ninety:one (reply on my talk) 17:22, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not notable, really?

[edit]

Well, what can I say, even though there's the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:People_who_have_flown_in_suborbital_spaceflight (listing 27 ppl in total, including Jeff Bezos as of today, July 20), Mark is still not notable after the flight today?

I am not a relative of Mark, so this not personal, but I think we have a notability issue in Wiki guidelines.

That category page itself defines notability, agree?

"Notable people (pilots, astronauts, cosmonauts and tourists) who have flown in a suborbital spaceflight above 80 and 100 km,", that is, now - at the beginning of the new millennium - even "a tourist" who has flown in a suborbital spaceflight above 80 and 100 km.

And Mark still doesn't qualify. I thought, when I was creating the article - and I added the "initial stub" as the edit summary, he might fall withing within the notable category. We don't yet have thousands of travelling to space every day. If we had, then I would agree if I ignored all his other activities. This was the first Blue Origin flight with human crew, yet you will have hard time to find more details about the ship's crew, certainly in case of Mark Bezos.

I can of course live with the decision, have more important projects ahead than wasting time by flaming here, but I think you have a serious notability issue here.

@37.48.50.33: I got your email, M.D., and I agree that the rules for notability are far too contrived. WP:GNG should be good enough in itself. That requires a bare minimum of two reliable independent secondary sources dedicated to the subject in question. They would've been the first two sources that I added as further reading, in my first edit on the page. Why those two sources? His name is in each headline. an afterthought ...

[edit]

... instead of scratching the draft you could have thrown in a couple more references as a backup for the existence of the stub article. Your decision was to scratch the draft. I respect that, but you could have chosen the positive way.
