stop Your edit has been removed by two separate editors. The onus is on you to get consensus for the inclusion of the material. All content added must be supported by reliable sources; if you continue to restore the disputed content you will be blocked from editing.-- Ponyobons mots 19:45, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A source has been added. There is no source for every other line of the section, however, which, along with Ozark United FC's page being linked, was why a source initially wasn't included. If you continue to remove the content now that a source has been attached, further action will be taken. Afcnwa (talk) 19:52, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war; read about how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.-- Ponyobons mots 19:53, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please use my talk page to ask for verification instead of engaging in an edit war yourself then. The team's Wikipedia page and relevance was clearly stated in the initial addition, but a user deleted it as they felt it wasn't relevant to Fayetteville, yet the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, another professional sports team representing the Fayetteville area, is mentioned in the same section with no citation.
The edit war is over as long as no one decides to delete information with a source attached. Afcnwa (talk) 19:57, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I reverted your edit again. You keep adding text about a football club, and the source you cited doesn't even mention Fayetteville. Stop adding this unless you have a source that clearly states this club is a Fayetteville club, and not some regional club. User:Ponyo has also reverted you, so please discuss this on that talk page before adding it back. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 21:17, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Why are you continually reverting my edit when the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, who play in Springdale, are on the page? Ozark United, like the Naturals, represents all of Northwest Arkansas. Their press release for their brand reveal specifically states they represent Fayetteville. I provided a source and everything. Stop reverting edits just because you deem it not fit for the page, there’s plenty of Fayettevillians who will be fans of this team that represents us. Afcnwa (talk) 22:36, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
A source has been added explicitly stating the club represents Fayetteville, it even says so twice. For the last time, stop engaging in an edit war and reverting my addition to the page, especially if you’re going to leave the Naturals, who also don’t play in Fayetteville but represent Fayetteville as well as the rest of Noethwest Arkansas, in the same section. Request reason:

I added information about Northwest Arkansas’ new pro soccer team, Ozark United FC, to the Sports section of Fayetteville’s page. The Northwest Arkansas Naturals, who also don’t play in Fayetteville yet represent the entire Northwest Arkansas metro area, are included in the Sports section as well. At first my edit was reverted due to no source, so I added one. It was then reverted because the source made no mention of Fayetteville, so I’ve added one from the team’s website explicitly stating it represents Fayetteville. I believe I should not have a ban because of this, but if I should then so should the other 2 users - Ponyo and Magnolia677 - as they started the edit war I was banned for. Hello Kinu, thank you for providing a detailed explanation. I initially didn’t add this copyrighted material, but was told I needed to cite a source to keep my info about Ozark United FC on the page as it wasn’t apparent that the team represents Fayetteville. This was said to me while info about our local minor league baseball team, the Naturals, who aren’t based in Fayetteville but represent the city’s area, was left up without a cited source.
If needed, I can include a citation without copyrighted material or edited the info I added to the Sports section of the Fayetteville article with a quote from the team’s press release proving they represent Fayetteville. Please follow up with any suggested next steps, thanks again! Afcnwa (talk) 23:21, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Never mind I just realized this was about content on the Ozark United FC page. I added information directly from the club’s website to this page that didn’t include any copyrighted materials, the club just announced their brand last week and haven’t copyrighted anything yet. What next steps do I need to take? Apologies for the initial reply that mistook what you said. Afcnwa (talk) 23:23, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The text was copied directly from this press release, which most certainly is a copyright violation. It has been removed and deleted from the history per WP:DCV, so no further action needs to be taken on your part. ----Kinu t/c 23:26, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Would I be able to add back a “Badge and Colors” section describing the club’s crest and colors in my own words? Other information on the article, as well as other USL clubs’ articles, are directly taken from articles from the league’s website as well, so I was unaware I couldn’t do this - my apologies. Afcnwa (talk) 23:29, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Using the websites as a source and paraphrasing the relevant information in your own words is definitely the way to go. Also, if you notice any other articles (USL-related or otherwise) with text copied verbatim from official websites as such, please tag them with the {{copypaste}} template. --Kinu t/c 16:23, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Will do. Thank you for the advice, I’ve been an editor for a few years but am still learning about Wikipedia so I appreciate the help. Afcnwa (talk) 17:20, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I engaged in disruptive edits because I added information about the new pro soccer team in Northwest Arkansas that represents Fayetteville, and other users persistently reverted my addition. At first, I was told to cite a source, so I did. Then my information was reverted again because the citation didn’t mention the team represents Fayetteville, so I included a citation that does. Finally, I was blocked from editing the Fayetteville page for edit warring when other users were the ones who caused this in the first place. I promise I will not engage in disruptive editing or edit warring again, I simply wanted to add context about our local soccer team as our local Minor League Baseball team, also not based in Fayetteville but representing the city, is mentioned in the Sports section of the Fayetteville page. Please consider unblocking me, thank you. Afcnwa (talk) 23:27, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Only you can control your actions. If others are edit warring with you, there are proper channels to address that, you can't fight fire with fire. Your sources did not say what you claim they said. From your post here it sounds like you were attempting to draw an analogy, but that's original research. We need a source clearly stating a claim, it can't be something assumed or pieced together. You also were disruptive after the initial single-page block which led to this sitewide block. 331dot (talk) 09:04, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Mya My first block was issued because of edit warring on the Fayetteville, Arkansas article. I apologize for doing this, it initially began because Northwest Arkansas - the metro area Fayetteville is in - gained a new pro soccer team recently, Ozark United FC, based in nearby Rogers. I noticed the Sports section of the Fayetteville article included the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, another pro sports team in NWA representing Fayetteville and the entire region, but not based in Fayetteville, so I added information about Ozark United below.

This was then reverted because a user believed this had nothing to do with Fayetteville. I reverted their reversion, but then another user reverted my reversion claiming my info lacked a source. I added a source and reinstated my info, only for the same user to revert my info again claiming the source had no mention of the team being tied to Fayetteville. So, for the final time, I added the info with a new source, directly from the team website, mentioning twice that it represents the 4 cities in Northwest Arkansas including Fayetteville.

This was then reverted by a 3rd user who blocked me from editing the Fayetteville page. I then began looking into how to appeal the block, and I followed instructions and posted the appeal on my talk page above. I then noticed the user who blocked me from editing claimed “this source makes no mention of Fayetteville whatsoever”, as well as info on this site saying to post on a user’s talk page if you dispute a blocking. So I posted on their talk page with the exact quote from the article mentioning the team representing Fayetteville, and then asked for them to consider unblocking me.

This caught then attention of another user, who blocked me from editing Wikipedia altogether citing edit warring and attacking another user. I admit to edit warring - although I was only reverting others reversions and following their instructions on citing a source and providing proof the team represents Fayetteville - but I do not believe I attacked another user.

Regardless, I believe I should be unblocked altogether as what I did was with good intentions in mind. I have been editing Wikipedia for 2-3 years now, always adding relevant, useful information to the articles I edit along with cited sources when applicable. I didn’t mean to cause any trouble, I’m just a fan of Ozark United - as many other Fayettevillians are - and wanted to add them to the Sports section of my hometown’s page because another team based elsewhere in our region was also in this section.

Thank you for taking the time to read my request, I hope I made myself clear! Afcnwa (talk) 02:01, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, this was pretty clear edit-warring. Once there was resistance to including the change, the next thing that should have been done was to start a discussion on the talk page, which you did not do. As per WP:ONUS, the responsibility to achieve consensus to add the deleted content was with you. Your discussion consisted dropping a vandalism template and then simply reincluding. Removal of content that you disagree with is not vandalism, and accusing others of vandalism has a high bar to clear, under WP:ASPERSIONS.
Unblock requests should never be about the content itself, but this really was a stretch to include this. The sourced reference to Fayetteville is as one of four cities, described as making up part of a region, in the context of describing a single element of a team logo. (If anything, the reference to the Naturals ought to be sourced or removed). You may think this is strong enough for an inclusion, but others did not, and you went about getting this information included in the wrong manner.
I would expect an unblock request to be successful at some point since this is hardly a capital offense in Wikipedia terms, but it's best to have unblock requests be straightforward and clear. An admin considering unblocking you will want to see that you understand why your editing conduct was inappropriate and why, and how you would respond in the future when facing a similar situation. It's definitely not going to be about relitigating a content dispute; that's the kind of thing that may prevent an admin from making a leap of faith. Check WP:GAB for more on appealing a block.
I wish you the best of fortune in returning to editing swiftly! CoffeeCrumbs (talk) 07:39, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the reply! I see where I was wrong now and how I should approach another unblock request. Afcnwa (talk) 12:24, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock request

[edit]

Afcnwa (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

I was blocked for edit warring and then attacking others. The edit warring was on the Fayetteville, Arkansas page after I saw Northwest Arkansas’ Minor League Baseball team, the Northwest Arkansas Naturals based in nearby Springdale, was included in the Sports section, and felt Northwest Arkansas’ new pro soccer team based in Rogers should also be included. But this was the wrong move and I fully admit that. Edit warring with other users who felt my addition wasn’t needed was also wrong. I’ve been editing on Wikipedia for a few years and never run into a dispute like this, so unfortunately I was unaware I could take matters to the talk page to reach a consensus with these users. Going forward, if I’m unblocked, I would do this any time that work of mine is reverted and/or disputed. I now know the correct procedure and learned it the hard way. Once I was issued a block on the Fayetteville page, I read a page on this site saying to fill out an unblock request on my talk page, and if one disputes a block they could inquire about it on the blocker’s talk page. I was still hung up on trying to prove the soccer team belongs to Fayetteville if the Naturals baseball team does, though, so in the heat of the moment that was what was the bulk of my comment on their page. This was what caused an admin to issue a site wide block for me, claiming I attacked another user. While I don’t feel I attacked them as per Wikipedia’s personal attack policy, I do fully admit I shouldn’t have made my comment on their page about content, as Wikipedia’s guide to unblocking states you can ask questions of why you were blocked but that’s it. I now fully understand this, and going forward, if I’m unblocked, I won’t be repeating the same mistake in the first place, but I now know how to handle the situation if I’m blocked. Truthfully I didn’t want to cause any trouble, I was just wanting to add information about our local soccer team and was misguided on the proper procedure for what can be included on the Fayetteville page as well as the proper procedures when content is reverted and a block has been issued. I fully concede I had the onus to provide proof Ozark United is a Fayetteville team and, going forward if I’m unblocked, I will be much more careful about what I think to add to this site. If any of my additions are disputed, I now know to use the talk page of the article to reach a consensus. And, while I don’t anticipate pushing a future situation this far as I now know much more about policy and procedure on Wikipedia than I did 18 hours ago, I understand what I’ve done wrong in this situation. Thank you for taking the time to read my request and I hope you consider it. I hope to continue being a positive force on Wikipedia going forward as I’ve been for the last few years until this incident. Afcnwa (talk) 12:51, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
