Thanks
Thanks for the barnstar. Only just seen it! Much appreciated - its a lot less work with you and Deskana processing all the requests quickly as well. WjBscribe 15:59, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks!
Hey Andrevan! Thanks for changing my username. If it's not too much trouble, might I ask you to delete my old user talk page as well? Much gratitude. TrickyApron 19:46, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks again, Andrevan! TrickyApron 20:04, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Thank you very much, Andrevan! ParlerVousWiki 09:28, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks.
Thankyou for changing my username so quickly. Much appreciated. Give us a sec to change the signature. MI-5 शान्ति शान्ति এই সভ্যজন অসমৰ
- Fixed. I might add a welcome message in another language in my signature when I find one later on. Thanks again. Adam.J.W.C.
Civilwarguy
I will not disagree with your unblock of Xterra1, but Civilwarguy is definitely a hoaxer, and I have reblocked him. I did not expect you to have unblocked both of them, until I took a second look at Everyking's comments on my talk page concerning your unblock of the former.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 08:13, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
Need Help With NPOV ASAP
I've been an editor for a while but have now, for the first time, run into someone who keeps deleting material from a biography of a dead religious leader. Simple things: number of marriages, number of kids, etc. I think they have broken, or are on the brink of breaking, the three-reversion rule. Their edits are anonymous and they provide no summaries. I need help, and I don't know how to use the UserTalk pages well enough to get live help. I hope you're online now. -- Lisasmall 05:07, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
- Andre, thank you for your swift response, which I answered on my own talk page before returning to the discussion page of the article in question. The censorious editor there rejects your statement that TIME is an acceptable mainstream source. I have provided dispassionate explanations on the discussion page, but expect the same hostile reaction your remark about TIME got. I would like to take this to arbitration, since further discussion is clearly going to be fruitless; but I will rely on your advice. -- Lisasmall 06:29, 21 July 2007 (UTC) (talk)
Thanks
Thanks for changing my username. --padraig 08:56, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
Can I retrieve a deleted page?
Hi Andre, Thank you for unblocking my username. I guess I should have read the username policy before I picked it. Now, I wanted to ask you, I created or attempted to create a page for Porn Star "Katarina Kat", but it seems like it was deleted once my old user name was blocked. Is there any way to retrieve it or is that something that's lost already? Also, I am brand new to this website, is there a way to ask for help from the staff when you create a page? Thank you for your time. I am assuming that you're an admin, but if not, my apologies and please point me in the right direction if possible. Sincerely, Carlitonds
Persistent conflict with User:KP Botany
User:KP Botany clearly do not get along with each other. For the most part, I have tried to avoid this user. However, I accidentally stumbled onto a category that the user seemed to passionately care about, and I nominated the category for deletion because it made no sense to me (see WP:CFD#Category:Botanists with author abbreviations). This has sparked another harsh exchange of words.
At this point, User:KP Botany and I seem to be close to a mutual agreement on not contacting each other. However, I have the sense that this user does not like compromising and seems to feel justified in inserting him/herself in any discussion that seems relevant to him/her. I would prefer to have an agreement that is balanced (that one person is excluded from discussions including the other person) rather than being subject to having to deal with User:KP Botany whenever that person feels the right to get involved. I would also like to have something binding.
Could you suggest a course of action or provide advice on the issue? Dr. Submillimeter 09:04, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
- Is Wikipedia:Requests for mediation the appropriate venue for a dispute between two editors? It looks like it is written for disputes on specific articles. This is a general, recurring problem. Dr. Submillimeter 09:20, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, see this edit. I do not need these types of attacks from people. Dr. Submillimeter 09:22, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
- I've observed of a number of fractious exchanges between Dr S. and several others, esp. regarding his attempts to impose a view of consistentency on lots of categories based on his own understanding of the topics concerned. Bulk changes to categories can be contentious, esp. as the normal revert & talk actions do not apply! He could do with some help in going about this in the best way, notably giving more recognition to the views of others, esp. the editors of the articles concerned. The challenge is getting a balance between accuracy, boldness and consensus. Having witnessed this dispute between KPB & DrS I would not like to see KPB censured for making perfectly valid points that DrS once again seemed unwilling or incapable of recognising, exascerbated by some remarkable conduct [1] I hope you can point DrS in the direction of a suitable middle ground as he appears well intentioned. Thanks
Andre,I'd like to give you many thanks for asking Ryulong to step down. He didn't deserve the post,also.--Xterra1 22:56, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks
Thanks for the name change, it was really annoying me because everytime I signed my name I would keep putting [[User:GBenemy]] and forgetting it wasn't like that. So thanks alot for changing it for me. GBenemy 01:28, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
rfc
your input is welcome at User talk:Until(1 == 2). I find the sort of "masked admin" you have created a bit questionable. Administrators' editing histories should be in the open, and their RfAs should be available for review. thanks, dab (𒁳) 16:09, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
Mediation
Is Wikipedia talk:Requests for mediation/John Buscema stalled? Rich Farmbrough, 06:44 26 July 2007 (GMT).
- Oh yes, for some reason I thought it was longer. (Because I'm thinking about month-end I suppose.) Sorry to have bothered you. Rich Farmbrough, 06:58 26 July 2007 (GMT).
Name Change
Thanks for the name change. Much appreciated. A lot happier now. Onnaghar (Fmrly: Radio orange) 12:11, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
No thanks
Have a nice day. --Basique 12:50, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
Comment
You don't have to apologize for reporting an unsuccsessful rfa, its not like it was your fault or anything, things just didn't work out. Thank you none-the-less for the heads up, I do apreciate it :) TomStar81 (Talk) 04:28, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
There seems to be a hidden syntax error on Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Giggy: [2] [3]. Could you take a look at it? Thanks, Nat Tang ta | co | em 10:40, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
- Fixed it. Empty section need to have a # in the for the Bot to be able to find them... WjBscribe 10:42, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
Questions about sensitive issues
Also known as trolling. Efforts to publically "out" our editors are not to be taken lightly.[4] That question by that editor could very easily have been asked via email. I wouldn't have overridden that 24 hour block I don't think.--MONGO 11:53, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
- Do you seriously think that the editor had absolutely no idea that the post could cause distress, and that ending the post with "kisses" was not taunting? Are you unaware that the blocking policy (yes, policy) states that administrators should not unblock users blocked by other administrators without first attempting to contact the blocking administrator and discuss the matter with them? Are you aware that the user sent an obscene, uncontrite email to the blocking admin, and that he has posted about this off wiki, showing himself to be completely unrepentant? Do you realise that your post saying that it's "impolite" and "bad form" to post about the topic on the talk page of the editor whose privacy is being violated suggests firstly that it's nothing worse, and secondly that it's okay to post about it elsewhere on Wikipedia? Do you realise that in overruling the block without any apologies from the user, or assurances that it was just stupidity, and without seeking any assurance that the behaviour will not be repeated, you have made a tacit statement that such behaviour is not really blockworthy, which goes completely against this and this? ElinorD (talk) 13:02, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, Andre, for your message at my talk page. I have a childhood memory of a very irritating (but well meaning) old lady saying, in a high, squeaky voice, "It takes a big man to be small, as my father used to say." She's long dead now. Because I was uncharitable enough to find her irritating, I also found that little phrase irritating, but when I think back on it, I see that she was right. So thanks for acknowledging it so graciously. It takes a big man to be small! Regards. ElinorD (talk) 17:40, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
No problem, my friend...I'd rather see an over assumption of good faith than the opposite of that. Best wishes.--MONGO 20:24, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
Greetings
Yes, I realize I'm a random stranger posting on your talk page, but I found your name on the Computer Project page. Yours was the first name I found that seemed to be active (i.e. online within the last few days). If you have the time, I could use some assistance regarding a request made to me by a user who has concerns regarding two articles. As I'm completely not qualified to undertake his request (to re-do some tables/information), I promised him that I would do my best to find an expert coder to take care of it. I was hoping you could point me in the direction of an active user that wouldn't mind taking a look at the request on my talk page? Thank you in advance, Ariel♥Gold 16:11, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
- Andre, thanks very much for the reply. I'll check all those resources, and I appreciate you taking the time to respond! Ariel♥Gold 19:09, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
