British English[edit]

Whatever your case is for wanting to use recognise, I believe that it is utterly wrong to suggest that recognize is an "Americanism" that has "crept in". I'm sure you will be keen to note that Middlesbrough is the much-loved powerhouse and tourist destination in Yorkshire (or wherever it is this week) whereas Middlesborough, spelt thus, or sometimes Middlesboro, is in Kentucky.
