CFDClerk seems to be stopped

[edit]

Title. It did not create today's log, nor is Wikipedia:Categories for discussion#Discussions awaiting closure being updated. (The shutoff page is blank.) Is this a phab:T360488 issue? Best, HouseBlaster (talk · he/they) 03:13, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like some update or other on Toolforge brought down a bunch of the bot's runners and didn't bring them back up again. Restarted. phab:T360488 just makes me have to jump through some extra hoops to do that. Anomie 11:53, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! Your work with making all the various things AnomieBOT function properly is appreciated, sincerely :) HouseBlaster (talk · he/they) 12:22, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think this happened again. Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2024 September 3 was created by Twinkle, and Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2024 September 3 is red at the time of writing. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 01:52, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Bot restarted. Anomie 11:24, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Seems to be happening again. Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Old unclosed discussions is not being updated. Best, HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 19:47, 12 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, restarted. Seems that things somehow just locked up on Toolforge. Anomie 00:59, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Stopped again... and apologies for the repeated notes. Your work is appreciated, truly. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 00:57, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Seems like the entire bot got f**ked up. ABG (Talk/Report any mistakes here) 01:29, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Seems something on Toolforge took out all the bot's processes. Restarted. Anomie 11:35, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Template subster

[edit]

Looks like the template substing isn't working either, have a few pages that have been autosubst for a few days now that still have transclusions. Primefac (talk) 12:38, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, most of AnomieBOT's tasks had fallen victim to the above. I restarted everything that had failed earlier. It'll take a little while for things to catch up, of course. Anomie 12:51, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Cool cool. I wasn't sure if the above was an "everything is running" or not. Thanks :-) Primefac (talk) 13:07, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

TemplateTalkRedirectCreator: Outdated description

[edit]

The description of the task does not say that redirects are created from talk pages ending in "/styles.css". I originally just added that myself but then I realised that I shouldn't have done that so I reverted. Can you please update the description? Nickps (talk) 22:28, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

 Done Anomie 12:15, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

OrphanReferenceFixer

[edit]

It would be cool if the OrphanReferenceFixer could notify those who introduced the error. Polygnotus (talk) 09:57, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

In theory it probably could, but I'm skeptical that in practice it would do much good. The bot does notify users (with this message) who revert the task's fixes, since they're usually confused as to what the bot is doing. Anomie 11:26, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. Getting a bot note about putting a link to a dab is one thing, since that's usually an easy fix (and a bot otherwise wouldn't be able to rectify), but since the bot already fixes an orphaned ref I don't really see much point in pointing it out to the user. Primefac (talk) 20:22, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Primefac: Yeah what I mean is that the user would get a notification when the bot cannot fix the problem (so when a new article is added to Category:Pages_with_broken_reference_names and the bot can't fix it). Only downside I can think of is that the bot does not respond immediately but waits for antivandalism bots. Are there any other problems/downsides? Fixing General Note templates

[edit]

Hi @AnomieBOT, Thank you for fixing a General Note incorrect information template to IP address Talk Page, i warned and revert before you, So if you have a question? Leave me a message on my talk page Raayaan9911 (talk) 02:09, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Raayaan9911, AnomieBOT is an automated account and cannot reply. What sort of response are you looking for? All the bot did was subst an auto-subst template. Primefac (talk) 12:41, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Primefac, they Can't Reply and Ignored because of bot, i was warned a iP address about incorrect information in their IP address talk page but bot fixed me Raayaan9911 (talk) 12:47, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Raayaan9911: Do you refer to this edit? Its edit summary contains two links explaining why the bot made that edit. See also Template:Uw-error1, which clearly shows how it should be used in order to avoid the kind of problem that the bot fixed. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 17:56, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Redrose64 I seen Raayaan9911 (talk) 18:53, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The bot doesn't seem to have created this today for some reason? 2A0E:1D47:9085:D200:44BF:5DD4:E6F2:E78 (talk) 09:20, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Something on Toolforge seems to have taken out many of the bot's jobs. Bot restarted. Anomie 11:24, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

AnomieBOT archived an incomplete request from CHUU. I see it was archived because of the {{done}} template, but I've restored the request twice and commented out that template. Even so, the request keeps getting removed. I'd really appreciate it if you could restore it. Thanks! – DreamRimmer (talk) 17:45, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@DreamRimmer: I think that "commented out that template" is the key here: the bot looks for the string {{done}} and doesn't care if it's in a comment or not (Legobot does something similar with Template:Rfc). You need to do something that causes that string to no longer occur. If you don't want to remove it entirely, the best thing to do is to mark it with Template:Tl or similar, as in {{done}}. Also, if you revert an edit like this, you must also revert the corresponding edit to the archive (they always go in pairs) - Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations/Completed/57 now has three copies of the "Azarctic → Quetzal" request. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 20:22, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the response, Redrose64. I am aware that archives always go in pairs, as I regularly archive steward permission requests on Meta and manage archiving in some other venues here as well. I didn't make further edits to fix it because I didn't want to engage in an edit war with the bot, so I thought it would be best for the bot owner to handle it. – DreamRimmer (talk) 01:54, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

user:AnomieBOT/SPERTable has stopped working

[edit]

This table is crucial to my backlog-shredding routine, what happened? ABG (Talk/Report any mistakes here) 01:15, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Seems the same with ITNCArchiver.—Bagumba (talk) 04:32, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AlphaBetaGamma: An up to date list may always be found at the bottom of Category:Wikipedia semi-protected edit requests. That does not depend upon any bots. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 07:27, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Seems something on Toolforge took out all the bot's processes. Restarted. Anomie 11:35, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Anomie,

It looks like this bot has missed some updates. Just checking in to make sure everything is okay. Liz Read! Talk! 07:57, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Request

[edit]

At some point every month almost without fail, Special:WantedCategories gets hit with at least one redlinked "Wikipedia Today's featured article nominations from Month YYYY" for the current month; the sole apparent exception to this was September, but that was just a temporary delay as Category:Wikipedia Today's featured article nominations from September 2024 showed up on the latest run of that report instead of mid-September, which means I may still get hit with an October category before the end of the month. Essentially, the category doesn't happen right away the moment a featured article request is made, and instead comes to happen when somebody clerking the FA nominations queue tags it with the submission date at closure, which is why it doesn't typically show up at WantedCategories until mid-month.

So, given that it's a category that's routinely expected to exist each month, I previously asked at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests if the people working on that project could just automatically create the category themselves at the start of the month instead of leaving it to become my job to deal with a non-empty redlink — but the only person who replied to me professed not to know what I was talking about as they had never heard of such categories before, and the discussion has now been archived without further action.

So instead I wanted to ask if AnomieBOT could have "Wikipedia Today's featured article nominations from [upcoming month]" added to the list of monthly maintenance categories it automatically creates at each end-of-month rollover? If this is done, it should be created with the {{Tracking category}} tag on it so that it doesn't get deleted prematurely for being empty. Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 18:00, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page watcher) I didn't know about the thread at WT:TFAR, which I have unarchived to Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests#Categories and replied there. Hopefully some of these people may then understand the issue a bit better. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 20:16, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I mentioned that category back in Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)/Archive 214#c-Anomie-20240729001000-Bearcat-20240728150400, but no one seemed too interested back then. Looks like, if this would go ahead, some logic in Template:Monthly clean-up category/core would need adjusting to handle the apostrophe output by {{PAGENAME}}, and/or we'd need to decide whether {{Monthly maintenance category}} is really appropriate for the categories.
