Eagles

And so is Jason Taylor playing DE or something like that. The most accurate information available is the most current information. If POV or OR enters the picture here, then the whole lot is cast out, because the entire system is POV and OR. Without considering POV or OR, the best way to do it is what is reported. Pats1 T/C 18:44, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

And no where is it reported that Bradley has the starting MLB spot. There's been a lot of speculation that Gaither could move to WIL, with Bradley playing MLB. But there has also been speculation that Gaither could stay at MLB & Akeem Jordan could start at WIL. Right now, Gaither is the incumbent MLB, and to change that before there is any kind of official indication (depth chart, training camp reports with Gaither as the first-team WIL, etc) is speculative. Now, I do agree with you about "reported". If Jim Johson comes out and says that Gaither will be the WIL and Bradley will be the MLB, then I yes that they should be listed as such. But the team hasn't given that indication yet. Bjewiki (Talk) 21:48, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
And there's no way they're going to give that indication in March. How are we supposed to have a training camp report in March? Again, nothing is official at this point. No teams have any of this stuff decided. Everything is speculation and predictions. We've decided to ignore OR and NPOV here. If it is projected and agreed upon by us that Gaither will probably play WLB, then that's what the roster will have. Pats1 T/C 23:01, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
In other words, we both agree on the projection. Therefore, by a 2-0 vote, that's how it will be on the roster. That's the way this works. Pats1 T/C 23:04, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
I disagree. It's not been announced because it's not settled. Therefore, Gaither should remain at his most recent position (ILB). Bjewiki (Talk) 00:19, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Again, you're missing the point. Nothing on there is "announced." Everything is speculation. Speculation here is a good thing. If we both predict something, then it is perfectly fine for it to be changed in this roster. Pats1 T/C 00:29, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
No, not everything on there is speculation. I can go verify pretty much everything on that roster template by looking at an Eagles' roster and/or where the player was playing last season. Here's a good quote from one of the writers that covers the eagles for a philly paper, speculating about the situation:

"Because Gaither can play middle or weak side and Bradley can play middle or strong side, defensive coordinator Jim Johnson has some flexibility. He can shift Gaither over to the weak side and play Bradley in the middle. Or he can play Bradley on the strong side, Gaither in the middle and Jordan on the weak side, using Gocong as a third-down pass rusher specialist."[1]

He covers the eagles, and he doesn't know. I am willing to compromise though. Since one could reasonably argue for Gaither as WIL or MLB and for Bradley at SAM or MLB, how about we just list both as LB? Bjewiki (Talk) 00:56, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Because A) It would be ILB/OLB or OLB/ILB anyway, to signify primary/secondary and B) We usually like to give starters a concrete position. Let's commit to one scenario, and if it turns out we're wrong, we can change it. This is very much a fluid template; it doesn't need to be stuck in what was the situation in January or December. Considering you said on the record that you think Gaither will go to WLB and Bradley to MLB, and I agree, then that it is. It's as simple as that. If something else happens, we change it. Pats1 T/C 01:09, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
It's not as simple as that. You're assuming who a starter is (as am I). That doesn't mean that either of us is right. Gaither was the starter at MLB last year, so he should remain as ILB. Bjewiki (Talk) 02:15, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Whether we're right or not isn't the issue. Assuming is the fun part about this. These roster templates are what we think the team will look like next year. Quite simply. Pats1 T/C 02:36, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
That's not encyclopedic. The most accurate label you could give Omar Gaither right now is MLB (which in this case would mean ILB). Bjewiki (Talk) 09:58, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
It doesn't have to be encyclopedic, neutral, or referenced-based. Believe me on this one. We're ignoring all of that for the sake of having it be right. And we both agree that Gaither will be at WLB, then that's what's right. That isn't how it works on 99% of Wikipedia, but that's how it works here. Again, we're not looking to be encyclopedic. That's what I think you've been missing. Whatever would fly on "My Projection of the 2007 Eagles Depth Chart" is what goes into this roster, as long as it is agreed upon by Chris and I and whoever wants to throw their hat in the ring. Chris has edited the Dolphins' roster to what he thinks the 3-4 defensive personnel will look like. I have tweaked the Pats' roster to what I think the new secondary will look like. And both have us have used our general knowledge and outsider opinions to tweak other rosters as to how they'll look going into this season. As teams make draft picks, Chris and I will both make decisions on what positions these guys will play in the NFL and put them there (i.e. Gholston at OLB if he is drafted by a 3-4 team). A perfect example of all of this is Justin Smith of the 49ers. He was a DE in the Bengals' 4-3, but since Chris and I both know that a 275 lb. 4-3 DE who is probably looking to pick up some sacks will always play at OLB, that's where he is on the roster. I've almost had to protect it and Smith's page based on the huge amount of people who are dumb enough to think he'll play as a 3-4 DE. Pats1 T/C 13:30, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
No, I do understand what you're saying. But, given that the situation is unclear (i've heard atleast 3 speculative cominations right now: Gocong/Gaither/Jordan, Gocong/Bradley/Gaither, Bradley/Gaither/Jordan) I think Gaither should remain where he started all of last season. I looked at the Justin Smith example too, and I disagree with that. He played DE in Cincy, the 49ers list him as a DE, and I found this from the Sacremento Bee: "...Justin Smith weighed in at 282 pounds during his physical yesterday. The 49ers confirmed that he will play right defensive end and would slide inside to tackle on passing downs..." and this from 49ers GM, "He never comes off the field. He can play both run and pass downs and so that gives us the versatility we want in our down linemen." Changes like this should be made when they become reality (like Eagles announcing Klecko was signed as a FB, or a player being named starter, etc) not based on speculation. A newly drafted player situation is different, because typically teams hold news conferences to introduce the player, and atleast give some indication there on how they plan to utilized him and where they fit with their team. Bjewiki (Talk) 14:34, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
On Smith the whole "slide inside to tackle thing" makes little sense. First of all, "tackle" doesn't exist in a 3-4 defense, since a NT is a totally different position from DT. And if Justin Smith is playing NT, the 49ers are in trouble. However, what they more likely were talking about is the nickel package, in which case the entire 3-4 scheme is thrown out. The Pats usually have 2 down linemen in their nickel, and it can be anyone from Wilfork to Seymour to Vrabel. So that's understandable, but that doesn't necessarily mean Smith will play 3-4 DE. And at 282, Smith will EASILY be one of the smallest 3-4 DEs in the league. And if they were expecting him to do much pass rushing, they can kiss that goodbye, too. Just proves why the 49ers have been such a horrible franchise lately. Also, the only team I've seen that actually "announces" what position a player will play when they sign them is the Eagles. I read that thing on Klecko and certainly found it odd. Just announce that you signed the damn player - you don't have to make a comment on everything. But I'll digress on the Eagles issue. LB, ILB/OLB, and OLB/ILB are all extremely ugly looking positions. Therefore, what is preferable is the most likely starting combination as OLB, OLB, ILB. Pats1 T/C 20:51, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
I dunno what the 49ers are going to be doing, but from their public quotes they seem to believe Smith can be a 3-4 DE. We'll see. I don't know how many more times i can say this. Gaither is a MLB. He played there all last seaoson. If/when he is switched to WIL, then he should be switched on the roster, not before. Here's a quote from the Eagles PR mouthpiece (Dave Spadaro),

"At this point, I'm not sure you can pencil in any of the players as starters at a particular position. It's easy to say that Gaither will slide back to the WILL, and that Bradley will play MIKE and that Gocong is set at SAM. But Jordan is going to arrive at the NovaCare Complex for the offseason conditioning program in a couple of weeks shooting for a starting job at WILL, and he is good enough to make a real push. Gaither had a lot of success at the MIKE last year, so who is to say he isn't the best fit there for Johnson? And the Eagles may decide that Bradley's ability lining up over the tight end is important enough to deem him the starter on the strong side."

Give that there's no definitive answer coming from the Eagles, I believe Gaither should remain listed as a ILB. Bjewiki (Talk) 22:28, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Talk about a mouthpiece. Damn, that organization isn't wary of talking. You'd never see the Pats showing their hand like that, no matter how much the media wants them to. Take the Asante Samuel press conference for example. The closest the Pats have come to a press conference for new players since Belichick has been here is a short, scratchy conference call when Moss was traded. Never, ever a photo shoot with a new jersey and all that. Pats1 T/C 22:48, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, see, I think he gets away with that level of information because he's not speaking directly for the team. It's kind of a bizarre situation because he acts like a "reporter" even though he's on the Eagles' payroll for running the website and various publications. In fact, he even asks questions at Andy's day-after press conference, which is kind of a joke - having a paid employee ask questions...ugh. Bjewiki (Talk) 00:43, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

It seems like the Niners would have to be shifting to the 4-3...►Chris NelsonHolla! 21:04, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

If so, start up the Tully Banta-Cain release clock. He's a marginal pass-rushing 3-4 OLB, but at 4-3 DE he'd be eaten alive. That would also mean they'd need to pick up a DL or two early in the draft - Sopoaga, Franklin, and Fields won't cut it. Pats1 T/C 22:52, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Sopoaga is their nose tackle no matter what scheme they run.►Chris NelsonHolla! 01:29, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Only if you classify one 4-3 DT as a Utility, 3-technique Tackle (Kevin Williams, Vonnie Holliday) and another as a Nose Tackle (Pat Williams, Keith Traylor). Pats1 T/C 01:31, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
What happened to Aubrayo Franklin by the way? I remember he started over Sopoaga before he got injured. Pats1 T/C 01:32, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
I do.►Chris NelsonHolla! 01:37, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

You're the only consistent editors of them in part because you bully other users away by constantly reverting their edits. Bjewiki 00:11, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

Thank you, I've been bullied around by Chrisjnelson by reverting edits I've done on numerous times. He's been gettin' on my nerves for months, I'm tired of how he treats other users. He NEVER sources ANYTHING that he adds, that I've seen. I think it's just because he's a journalism major that he thinks he's hot shit or somethin'. But as I said thank you for tellin' him off.
