Hi and welcome
I'm Salvio, I'm a recent changes patroller and I've seen that you're interested in becoming a vandal fighter! So, apart from welcoming you, I'm here to suggest you this tool; it's wonderful to get started and allows to patrol for typos too! ^__^
Feel free to ask me anything! Salvio ( Let's talk 'bout it!) 19:32, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
Welcome to the LGBT Studies WikiProject!
Hi, Cymru.lass, welcome to WikiProject LGBT Studies! We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles regarding lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) and intersex people. LGBT Studies covers people, culture, history, and related subjects concerning sexual identity and gender identity - this covers a lot of ground and your help is appreciated! Some points that may be helpful:
If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you. And once again - Welcome! |

Adoption
Hi! As a fellow female teen nerd, I thought I'd be the first to offer to adopt you. You can learn about me on my userpage or by reading my userboxes. I've been on Wikipedia for a couple of years and I'm always happy to help out new users. You can get back to me any time at my talk page. strdst_grl (call me Stardust) 07:22, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
In that case, perhaps I'm not the best adopter for you. Try the list at Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User/Adoptee's Area/Adopters to find particular users - for example, User:Dev920 is involved in LGBT. strdst_grl (call me Stardust) 22:30, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
- I also came to offer adoption, but if strdst_grl isn't right for you, I believe I will be much the same. You might consider removing the adoptme template from your user page, as most adopters will not be what you're looking for...try the list as she suggested above. The offer still stands if you want me though. - Draeco (talk) 22:39, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
- The Counter-Vandalism Unit is your nexus for fighting vandalism. Tons of good tools, etc are outlined there. As for a guideline for copyediting, the most general advice I can give is to consult the Manual of Style for any given topic. If you have a specific question, I might be of more help. - Draeco (talk) 03:35, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

Backlog Elimination Drive Wrap-up
Thanks very much to all who helped with the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive. We were very close to meeting our target of 7,500 articles remaining in the backlog. Our most shining success is the incredible reduction in the backlog of Special Requests. That part of the project saw a drop from 62 articles in the queue, some dating back to February of 2009, down to a stunning THREE, all of which were being edited at the close of the drive. The Special Requests page will now be a great resource for people looking to tidy up their article in advance of a GA or FA nomination, instead of a place where articles go to die.
Moving forward The drive has not only forced a great leap forward in reducing the backlog. It has helped promote the Guild, and led to a greater awareness of the level of vigilance required to keep the backlog manageable. Ideas such as charts, graphs, and barnstars helped motivate editors, and meeting other users helped quell any feelings gnomish editors may have had in the past that they were toiling all alone. Keep up the good work people!! Stats

My user page
Thanks! I created separate pages for the headers instead of just putting the code at the top of each page in order to avoid clutter. Just place {{/Header}} at the top of each page for which you want to create a header, copy the coding from my pages (for example, I have User:The Man in Question/Header, User:The Man in Question/Contributions/Header, User talk:The Man in Question/Header, and User:The Man in Question/Other/Header), and put the coding into the link you've created. — the Man in Question (in question) 21:45, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
Vandalism
I've tagged the image that was put on your user page so that it can no longer be used anywhere without Admin permission. Cheers. Rodhullandemu 00:47, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

Hoshi Sato image
Sorry to intrude upon your user page, but I had to remove File:HoshiSato.jpg. As you can see from the licensing on the image description page, this is a copyrighted image and it therefore falls under the category of non-free content. Wikipedia's non-free content criteria specifically states that non-free content may only be used in the article namespace, and only in articles themselves (criterion #9). It may not be used on talk pages, user pages, disambiguation pages, etc. You are more than welcome to use free images (those not subject to copyright) on your user page (pretty much anything you'll find on Wikimedia Commons is free content). But 99.99% of screenshots from films and TV shows are copyrighted. Please let me know if you have any questions, and happy editing! --IllaZilla (talk) 19:08, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

Will of the Empress characters
I can't even remember suggesting the merger, and you'll notice I haven't returned to perform it... it isn't really an article set I'm that interested in, I just thought it seemed sensible. Go ahead with whatever seems good to you, your suggestion sound fine. strdst_grl (call me Stardust) 20:56, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
Hi, it's always me.
To nominate articles for deletion, you can use Twinkle; you just have to click on the XFD tag and that lovely tool will do it all for you... ;) Salvio ( Let's talk 'bout it!) 15:06, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
- Awesomesauce! I didn't know that. Thanks for letting me know, Salvio ;) --- cymru lass (hit me up)⁄(background check) 04:54, 20 June 2010 (UTC)
- You're welcome, I'm always glad to introduce new initiates to my personal cult of laziness... ;-P I guess you'll have been experimenting by now, however: with ARV you report vandals, with CSD you tag for speedy deletion, with RPP you ask for page protection and with PROD tag an article for proposed deletion. Salvio ( Let's talk 'bout it!) 10:51, 20 June 2010 (UTC)
- Hmm... I think I've only done one of those so far... I love love love having tools like Lupin and Twinkle cymru lass (hit me up)⁄(background check) 18:43, 20 June 2010 (UTC)
- LOL, I love those tools too (and Friendly); however, if you wish to practice, you can go here, trust me, you'll have the chance to use a lot of CSD and PROD tags... :o) Salvio ( Let's talk 'bout it!) 20:26, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

I'm just dropping by to thank you for your kind words, regarding my editor review. It's really appreciated! Again, thanks Salvio ( Let's talk 'bout it!) 22:45, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks
Thank you very much for signing up for the July Backlog Elimination Drive! The copyedit backlog stretches back two and a half years, all the way back to the beginning of 2008! We're really going to need all the help we can muster to get it down to a manageable number. We've ambitiously set a goal of clearing all of 2008 from the backlog this month. In order to do that, we're going to need more participants. Is there anyone that you can invite or ask to participate with you? If so, we're offering an award to the person who brings in the most referrals. Just notify ɳorɑfʈ Talk! or Diannaa TALK of who your referrals are. Once again, thanks for your support! --Diannaa TALK 20:21, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
Trackers Task Force
Hello, Cymru.lass! I'd like to invite you to join the proposed Trackers Task Force. If you are interested in Patrick Carman's series The Trackers, you are perfect for this proposed WikiProject!!!! Just add your name to the support list to join! The task force is under construction, so maybe you can help. We need 3 more supporters before September 21 or else the proposed task force will go into the Archives. Goodbye!!! Hidividedby5 (talk) 12:51, 23 June 2010 (UTC) |
Please don't
template the regulars. I'll admit it was kind of funny given that I've been blocking as many vandals as I've warned today :) I assure you, since I passed RFA based on fighting vandalism, I know how to warn them. Huggle however, sometimes crashes mid-action, and it's usually not worth the hassle to finish the warnings it drops. Courcelles (talk) 21:45, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- Allrighty sorry about that! :P --- cymru lass (hit me up)⁄(background check) 21:46, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, welcome to the weird world of tools and scripts. The number of things I have no idea how to do without them is truly staggering. I don't think I ever opened an AFD or sent someone to AIV without using one... Courcelles (talk) 21:52, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- Nice :) What tools do you use? I'm on Lupin, Twinkle, WikEd and HotCat. --- cymru lass (hit me up)⁄(background check) 21:54, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- Twinkle does just about everything, just very slowly. Huggle and Igloo (which I've never tried) have uses, mainly fighting vandalism, but I also use Huggle to clear out AIV backlogs as it allows easy viewing of diffs and blocks and templates in one click. (Both of those require Rollback rights to work... but that would take me three clicks to turn on for you, if you'd like, and if you read WP:ROLLBACK and promise only to use the button on obvious vandalism.) There's more scripts in my monobook file, but how many would be useful for a non-admin, I don't really know. Courcelles (talk) 21:59, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- I've wanted to give Huggle a try for the longest time, but I don't have rollbacker permission yet. How do you like working with it? --- cymru lass (hit me up)⁄(background check) 22:04, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- HUggle's easy... when it doesn't crash. Read the link above, and I'll turn the button on for you. Courcelles (talk) 22:05, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- Aw, thanks. I've read the Rollback page. :) --- cymru lass (hit me up)⁄(background check) 22:25, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- Alright, then, done. Take it slow with things like Huggle, it's fairly easy to use, but it is still possible to make a right mess if you're not careful. Courcelles (talk) 22:31, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely keep that in mind—I don't want to make any stupid mistakes. --- cymru lass (hit me up)⁄(background check) 22:32, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
