Help me!

[edit]

I am hoping to set up a course page for a graduate level course I am teaching this semester that looks at governance systems in the Middle East, and their implications on human rights and democracy. Based on extensive reading of other wikipedia course assignments I think that I have designed a 'workable' assignment for my students, whereby they identify and address an existing gap in currently available wikipedia information on a theme related to the course literature. The students must submit to me their article page ideas for approval to ensure that it is appropriate for the assignment.

Anyways, I have requested "course instructor rights" on the Education notice board in order to get started in setting up a course page however I am not entirely clear what I do at this point. Am I to wait until someone reads that request? Am I to notify the correct person of my request? Does someone need my course syllabus or other information in order to grant me such rights? The course is being offered at a European university so I understand that I am not eligible for support from the Wikipedia Foundation for course related projects. I have however completed their training programme for instructors and read a breadth of other material to try to learn how to create a course page outside of the Foundation's system. Any help someone might be able to provide me regarding this would be greatly appreciated!

As JarrahTree explained below, you're on the right track, but this may take a little time. Please be patient. Huon (talk) 19:46, 19 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes it can be difficult if you want to get on with things - what I can see are -

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:User_access_levels#Course_coordinator.2C_instructor.2C_online_and_campus_volunteer https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Course_pages https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Education_noticeboard

which is where you have lodged your request - and explained well.

Sometimes some eds are not regularly available, and one has to be patient for responses. Helaine and Bluerasberry have edited today, so they shouldnt be that long to get back to you. Other than that, I would recommend they gave you further info - I would have suggested talking with an admin if it was other sorts of rights - but in this case, I think you are on the right track asking them JarrahTree 14:27, 19 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, D.Thompson. Unfortunately that page wasn't ready for "mainspace" (the part of Wikipedia where the actual encyclopedia pages are) and has been deleted. If you are trying to set up a course project, my advice would be to contact Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk · contribs) She's super-helpful, and active right now. (And was given the WP:ADMIN privileges in March 2013, same month as me. Hi Shalor!) Please let me know if I can be of any assistance. Pete AU aka --Shirt58 (talk) 10:22, 24 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Draft

[edit]

Hi. Regarding the message you left on my talk page, I've created the draftpage here: Draft:Waste management in Egypt. Your students can work on the draft at their own pace without having to worry that it will be deleted for not meeting the standards required for mainspace articles. When the draft is ready to be published, you can follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Moving a page to see how to move the draft to the mainspace. Bennv3771 (talk) 10:36, 24 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
