Redirects to oneworld

[edit]

Hi DBinder, I noticed you came along and cleaned up a link I'd edited that pointed to oneworld and changed it to oneworld. The MOS suggests leaving these the way they are (Wikipedia:Redirect#Don't fix links to redirects that aren't broken). I didn't want to cause you any extra work...

Also, concerning the capitalization of Oneworld, I noticed your vote on the WP:MOS-TM talk page. I wonder if you'd support a new proposal that lowercase names always be capitalized except in cases where the formatting already causes them to stand out... such as in links (oneworld), titles (oneworld Ruby), tables (such as the Airline alliance global players table column headers) or the bold text at the beginning of an article. I don't have a problem with a name being written the way it is trademarked, but these trademarks should have a plain-text equivalent for paragraph copy. Let me know what you think. -- Renesis13 23:19, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I see your point about being consistent with the trademarked format. I feel the same way except in the case of first letter capitalization, in which I lean towards capitalization. I believe the rules of English say the proper nouns should have a capital. This is how you distinguish between proper nouns and regular nouns, as with the company Apple and the fruit apple. I don't feel that press releases are an accurate source for formatting, as they are pretty much the opposite of encyclopedic content - copyrighted, POV marketing copy, written by the company about itself. -- Renesis13 01:22, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi!

[edit]

Just so you know SAS is a company who owns lots of airlines among them SAS Scandinavian Airlines SK and SAS Braathens SK(BU), SAS Braathens operate all flights between Norway and Europe except half of the flights between OSL-ARN, check the SAS Group website or the SAS Braathens website to check that, so its actually no airline named just SAS officialy today since the incoperation of the Scandinavian Airlines System in 2004 to 4 different companies (or two airlines) Scandinavian Airlines Sverige, Scandinavian Airlines Danmark and Scandinavian International uses SK and SAS Braathens SK (BU), all flights by SAS Braathens are officialy at the air control are called BU and flight number. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Plyriz (talkcontribs)

The HEL Controversy

[edit]

Hello. I know, this is biased because I am the other party (again). But the anonymous user that has been insisting in saying that the closest major city that HEL serves is Vantaa, and not Helsinki, has made 4 edits today. I know, I shouldn't be the one bringing this issue to the admins, just pretend you've stumbled on it on your own. :P Elektrik Blue 82 16:32, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

International destinations

[edit]

User:PikDig has been inserting "international" destinations for Northwest Airlines from New York-area airports. I disagree with the inclusions. I hope you can take a look at User talk:PikDig#Northwest Airlines to see if my reasoning is correct, and to add other comments. Thanks. Tinlinkin 12:05, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Alitalia article

[edit]

Hi Dbinder,

Just wondering if you can help with the Alitalia article. Someone has been trying to vandalise it to remove all the facts about its customer services.

Many thanks --Kalpha 14:05, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your message. It seems that it has now stopped. But it happened twice. I was simply wondering if there are any tools to protect the article or track changes. --Kalpha 00:03, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

polls/voting/whatever

[edit]

Hey, I noticed that *you* noticed that Radiant is everwhere someone mentions a straw poll. Him and and a couple other editors recently tried to make Wikipedia:Discuss, don't vote, a guideline. Theres no discussion of consensus at all, and I would assume that very few people realize it was recently changed from the Voting is Evil essay, to that page. I find Radiant to be a very abusive and violent editor, I just.. don't understand. Just letting you know that your opinions over at WP:DDV would be appreciate. Airline programs

[edit]

The admin who made the redirect, W.marsh, was unaware of the wikiproject guidelines that these articles should have their own pages. He gave me permission to revert the change and has corrected his mistake by going back to remove the AfD himself (you can verify this from the page history and on his talk page at the appropriate thread). Simply put, the true consensus is made on the wikiproject guidelines and not the individual articles. While the effort you seem to put into helping to draft the airlines wikiproject is admirable, the seeming ease at which you ignore inconvenient guidelines (or ones you don't agree with) is ironic and inappropriate. So far your thread on changing the guideline has had no response and so these articles stay until there is further action elsewhere. Parnell88 01:28, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dbinder. I removed the wiki links from AAL and COA because they were already refered to and linked earlier in the article. Thadius856 had noticed this on October 13 using AWB and removed the second links, but an anonymous user (75.42.224.179) added the links earlier today (to which I reverted for said reason). United Airlines Class of Travel

[edit]

Opinion Needed

[edit]

Since you help me out usually, I have a question. If you have been viewing the editing of the Singapore Airlines and US Airways page, do you believe the reverts I have been making are correct? For what it's worth, select editors re-revert my edits back to the original, complex, hard to understand version. I'm all for simplicity yet consistency, and they're holding me back from making the proper edits to the article.--Golich17 03:25, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Editors that don't provide an edit summary tend to look like vandals

[edit]

I have noticed you commonly don't enter an edit summary as you didn't when you edited User talk:Sox23 (see this edit). This causes me problems. When I patrol for vandalism, I use the summary to make a preliminary decision on whether or not the post is a vandal edit or not. If the summary is present (or at least a section header, the part inside the /* */), I commonly decide the edit is legit and move on.

However, if no edit summary is available, I typically resort to loading the diff for the edit. This takes time. For that reason, if your edits are all valid, I ask that you provide edit summaries. For more on how to enter an edit summary, please read Help:Edit summary.

Incidentally, it is not just me that appreciate having edit summaries. When you omit your summary, you may be telling various bots that you are vandalizing pages. For this reason, please consider providing that summary. It is very important. You can enter that summary via the edit summary box on edit pages (as shown below).

The edit summary appears in black italics in the following places: * Use the enhanced watchlist to see all recent changes in the watched pages, not just the last change in each page.

While you do sometimes provide a summary, you commonly either rely on WP:AES or don't bother. Will (Talk - contribs) 23:22, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Usually I include one. When adding to a user's talk page, I don't. The comments on the page speak for themselves. DB (talk) 01:02, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You really should include talk pages. Until I check the diff, I don't know what you are doing. Personally, I figure that some anti-vandal bots use the same red-flags that I do — including the blank edit summary. If a bot reverts your edit, don't say I didn't warn you. Will (Talk - contribs) 01:13, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll keep it in mind. DB (talk) 01:14, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mediation Cabal Request

[edit]

Hello! I'm .V., a member of Wikipedia's mediation cabal. We provide informal and optional mediation to users in disputes so, hopefully, it can be resolved early instead of being taken to "official" channels (the Mediation Committee or Arbitration). A user has filed a mediation cabal request regarding a discussion on a page in which you are a participant. You can find a link to the mediation here.

Remember, this mediation is purely optional and the result is non-binding. The goal of this mediation is to hopefully resolve the matter peacably, fairly, and to the satisfaction of all parties involved. Thanks! .V. [Talk|Email] 23:15, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wording

I wonder if you might want to reword "Where I've Been," which makes it sound like Canada has states as well as provinces and territories. Maybe, "U.S. states and Canadian provinces and territories." 67.71.141.205

The US also has territories, and "US states and territories and Canadian provinces and territories" is too cumbersome. DB (talk) 01:07, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Aireuropa.gif)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Aireuropa.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 15:43, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Swiss logo.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Swiss logo.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 08:14, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Template:Airline Alliance logo requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

Fair use rationale for Image:Edwinland.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Edwinland.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Origin of DB

Hello DB. Our paths have crossed a few times, mostly in airlines or airports. I've wondered, what is the origin of your user name? I only ask because right now I'm on a train to Munich Airport; the train is operated by Deutsche Bahn, or as their logo depicts, DB. Any relation? BTW-I am from MA as well!
