WikiProject Hinduism Award[edit]

Hi DaGizza, I fixed the version #4 of the WikiProject Hinduism Award that some people couldn't see. I don't know what the next step is to getting an award 'approved', or whether there is voting on a specific version. Or is this just an informal process? I'm also happy to modify any of the proposals if there's a strong consensus for that. ॐ Priyanath 00:24, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I notice that Srkris is going to be away for a while - this can probably wait until he returns and can give some feedback, since the first version was his. ॐ Priyanath 01:13, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Indian cricket team[edit]

OK, I'll probably be more active in a week or two and then we can finish up the FA drive for ICT. The thing about controversies in Wikipedia is that you can't just simply leave them and edit other pages once you're embroiled in them, because that means you allow a possibly biased editor to mislead the world. Revert of Aupmanyav's edit[edit]

Dear Friend, You reverted my edit. Where should I look for reasons for your reverting my edit? Did I mention something wrong? Aupmanyav 04:52, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

'Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism all share some traits in common with Hinduism (which is sometimes specifically called Orthodox Hinduism when contrasted with its associated, but non-Vedic faiths)' This is what is on the page, I realize the problem, and I only wanted to avoid acrimonious debates later as has happened in the past. The inference of the line is that buddhism, jainism, and sikhism are somehow new non-vedic strains of Hinduism as contrasted with the orthodox vedic hinduism. I think this representation would be more offensive to these people. When I mentioned 'Hindus do not consider buddhism, jainism, and sikhism (which originated in India) as different from them, though the adherents of these faiths may differ in this respect.', it was meant to show that the buddhists, jains, and sikhs, do not agree with the hindu view and do not consider their religions as part of hinduism, whatever the hindus may think. But I will accept the old representation, if people think that it is less problematic. I have however, always maintained that there is no need to mention non-hindu religions or sects, or their usage terms (like salvation or icons) on the hinduism page. redundancy exercises[edit]

Excellent idea; I'll do this when I can manage to find time. My plan is to create a series of "advanced" exercises that have a number of less-densely occurring problems, but you're right, one or two here would be good. Tony 00:13, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey mate,

Just letting you know that I have made a few minor suggestions on the talk page of the Cricket World Cup page. Please make these changes and tell me when your done so I can promote this to GA status. Jasrocks (talk) 11:16, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, the Cricinfo scorecards are what I'm talking about (by the looks is what you have used). I have no problem with there only being two images in the article, as these are properly tagged. Other than that, this article seems to be ready for GA status! Jasrocks (talk) 23:34, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cricket World Cup[edit]

Hi DaGizza. I won't have the time to copyedit the article as it is time consuming for me. Instead, I suggest you post a request on Wikiproject cricket where hopefully ALoan & team can copyedit the article. However, if you're looking to get this article featured, I can critique it for inconsistencies, suggestions and content; which at the moment quite a bit can be done. Let me know.

The map should be pretty simple to create, but I don't like pngs anymore, and I am in negotiations with user:canuckguy over his svg world map. Once that is done, it would give the article the cutting edge with hi-quality graphics. You would have to wait for the weekend though. PS an SVG rendering of the 2007 world cup logo is available.

Hinduism[edit]

Gizza, Were you referring to a citation for the first sentence or the second in the following text ?

Hinduism is sometimes referred to as a polytheistic religion, but that is not true for all its schools of thought whose beliefs range from polytheism to monotheism, or even monism and atheism. For instance, Advaita Vedanta holds that there is One God, who however may appear to humans in multiple forms.

In my view:

  • We don't need to provide a reference for the first sentence since the idea has been explained in detail (and with citations) in subsequent sections of the main article, as well as in wiki-linked articles on monism and Atheism in Hinduism.
  • The Swami Bhaskarananda reference should still hold for the second sentence, since the only change from the previous version is assigning the stated idea to the Advaita Vedanta school rather than "mainstream Hinduism", which some editors found objectionable.

What do you think ? Abecedare 23:14, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting help in designing a barnstar[edit]

Hi गिरिक सहगल,reqesting your help for having some good ideas and design.

All Indian Languages using wikipedians,
Further promotion of Indic language wikipedias needs mass media publicity like Print,Radio, telvision , aproaching in academic Institutions.
Also if possible a level of field support from network engineers in India for presentation and training in usage of Indian Languages and wikipedia can be a added boon.
May I call on all indic language wikipedia users,to put our hands together to design special barnstars or suggest one which can be awarded to all those who will support our noble cause with actual field support among Indian education institutions and Indian mass media or actual field 'network'help to users.
I belive we should award barnstars to such users who can support the cause through online publicity like blogs , groups etc. also.
Please do share any good development in this regards to all indic language wikipedias at विकिपिडिया: देवनागरी टेम्प्लेट परियोजना

Re:List of famous Old Sydneians[edit]

Hey Girik. Things have been great over the past month or so. It's certainly a nervous and exciting time but one that you should look forward to after all the unneccessary stress that the HSC is. I got my marks today and although they didn't appear to be great (I'll only appear in the paper twice which is a bit of a farce considering my 79 for 4 Unit maths equates to about a 92 for 3 Unit maths after UAC scaling, along with a few other things I'm annoyed about). I then put them into a UAI converter and realised that my school aggregate mark for the trials was a joke - and I was probably about 30 or 40 places higher than what the school said I was. In the end all that worry about getting into the course I wanted to seems silly, as I will hopefully (although I still haven't got the official UAI yet) get in. I'm actually pretty shocked by the events that have occurred over the past week or so about one of your classmates. The news that I received this afternoon was quite distressing really. Not too sure what to say at the moment... With regards to the Old Sydneians article, I still haven't finished referencing the politics section but I've done as much as I can with everything else. I like what you've done too, and hopefully I'll start unredlinking those pages when I find the time to put some information on about them. I'm also keen to help on that Cricket World Cup article so we can hopefully get it featured on the front page when the tournament starts. Anyway enjoy your break and all the best. Bhairava or Shiva proper?[edit]

Hello DaGizza, I'd like to have you take another look at the illustration on the Hinduism Portal page. I believe that the figure depicted is of Shiva proper and not the fearsome aspect of Shiva (Bhairava). Thank You. LeMaster 15:09, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kali & Shiva[edit]

Hi DaGizza, The legend that I have always heard and the version that is posted here on Wikipedia (Kali), is that Shiva leads Kali to believe she has killed him, this of course isn't the case, however she becomes shamed as was his intention and bites her tongue. This is the version that I believe the illustration is depicting. Shiva isn't killed by Kali, the story that I know doesn't suggest that she does, thus no one should be offended. The version that you've heard is no doubt valid, I simply don't believe that this illustration depicts your version. Thanks LeMaster 02:58, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The caption that originally read... "A common scene depicting Kali standing over Shiva" should be fine, it doesn't tell the whole story obviously, but it shouldn't be offensive to anyone, it doesn't say "Kali kills Shiva" for example. Thanks again, LeMaster 03:32, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
