Hi! You've done a great job on the Olympics articles...Compliments! One question: IFFHS say that Thufason came to Denmark from Føroyar and Tufvesson was his original Faroese surname. Do you know who's right? If IFFHS is right he can't be born in Copenhagen... --necronudist (talk) 20:28, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Done! I'll let you know, thank you! --necronudist (talk) 09:24, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
User:Poulsen seems to be inactive... Damn! --necronudist (talk) 18:53, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Most sources refer to him as Gordon Wright e.g. www.englandstats.com and www.thefa.com. The only one that refers to him as Dundas Wright was www.englandfc.com which was my original source when I initially created the List of England international footballers (alphabetical). None of the sources refer to him as Edward Wright. I'm not sure if that helps. Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 18:03, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

If you think the article should be moved to Gordon Wright (footballer) I won't object. Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 18:13, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
I've now moved it to Gordon Wright (footballer) which seems to be the name he was known by. I'll see what I can find on the others. Cheers. --Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 18:22, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
www. allfootballers.com says that the William Martin (footballer) who played for Huddersfield town was an England amateur international, so that seems to be the right link. Cheers. --Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 18:35, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

My Proofs

You have probably noticed that for the last month I haven't contributed to Wikipedia much. The reason to this was, that I bought myself the Golden Book of Olympic Games and have been putting together a webpage that contains all my additions to Wikipedia (mostly birth & death dates) with proofs. I have sent this page to Ove Karlsson who compiles the Deceased Olympic Medallists section of The Journal of Olympic History. This page is here. Note that as this page contain a lot of images, it's quite large (over 25 MBs). As it exceeds my webspace quota more than twice, I have made arrangements to temporarily keep it up for a week. So don't link anything to it. You can save the page to your computer, I think all the web browsers have an option to save the page with images. Then you have to manually download only two things: they are the obituaries of Harold Weber and Warren Wood, they are both pdf files. Gh (talk) 15:52, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Alphonse De Cuyper

Do you know, are the Alphons De Cuyper who won a medal in arts competition to Belgium and Alphonse Decuyper who won a bronze medal in water polo as a member of Paris waterpolo team the same person. They both are born in 1877. Gh (talk) 11:17, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Vladimir Stogov

Can you tell me where did you find the exact death date of Vladimir Stogov? I have only found a press release by Moscow Weightliftin Association published on May 25, 2005, whitch states that he died, but there is no date given. I need this, so I could send this source to Ove Karlsson, who the can publish it at The Journal of Olympic History. Also if you are interested, I can send you those Deceased Olympic Medallists sections published in The Journal of Olympic History in 1997-2007. I have compiled them to one large file. You can find my email addres on my talk page. I posted it there as for some strange reason I can't use the E-mail this user feature. Gh (talk) 11:02, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the link. I will send it to Ove Kalsson. And I haven't recieved you email, I just checked. Gh (talk) 14:20, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
No, I still haven't got your mail. I checked even my spam folder. That means that somewhere between us some kind of spam filter kills your message and it doesn't arrive to my system. I have seen it before. Maybe you can try to send the email from another address? Gh (talk) 15:26, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Martin! In the 1938 FIFA World Cup qualification (UEFA Group 6/Group 7) article You incorrectly named football club Hungária FC (Your version: Hungária FC MTK). The official name of the club in the years 1926-40 Hungária FC. See MTK Hungária or Claudio Nicoletti website.Thank You

Doma-w, you're a good contributor, but you have to accept that things will not always go your way. This is very disappointing. Adding one source and whole bunch of uncited facts is not a significant "expansion" and, furthermore, all the facts added do not approach the basic issue at the AFD, which was that an article (as opposed to a collection of statistics) cannot be written about him (or, at least, no evidence has been shown of this). I will be reverting your edits and reminding you that recreation of material that was removed in an AFD can be considered disruptive editing. Cheers, CP 15:13, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Well, if the version that you want to create is significantly different from the version that was deleted (ie. with prose and at least a start-worthy biography), then you can do that without asking anyone. But the version has to address all the issues brought up in the article's AFD, mainly it cannot be just a list of his achievements, because that won't create much of a neutral biographical article. Cheers, CP 15:35, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Skeleton at the 1948 Winter Olympics

I looked at the edits you did for Skeleton at the 1948 Winter Olympics and I have not seen the last two names either from the official Olympic report or from an alternative source. If you have the link or source with the names, could you please put this in. Thanks. Chris (talk) 13:17, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

I saw the results that they did not start, but it may be they may have crashed out on the first run and their results were not counted at all. If that is the case, I will adjust. Chris (talk) 15:23, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Olympic football squads

Hi! As you know I am working on Olympic squads. An IP User:189.202.2.94 has changed lots of player's teams in Football at the 1980 Summer Olympics - Men's team squads and Football at the 1992 Summer Olympics - Men's team squads. Do you think I should revert this edits as there is no references in his edits?Best regards.--Latouffedisco (talk) 09:34, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

OK, I will revert some unsourced edits which don't match some player's article. I keep searching datas, too. Regards--Latouffedisco (talk) 07:16, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
After checking out his edits, I would say that this user has good faith: but the player's teams he edits are teams joined after the tournaments: unfotunately, all sources say for instance PLAYER X joined TEAM 2 from TEAM 1 on July 19XX, which is just a convention, but is untrue. And as Olympic tournaments are in August...Regards--Latouffedisco (talk) 08:05, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
Hi, yes I'm on the way to correct both 1980 and 1988 olympic squads. I will remove your tag once finished.Keep up the good work!--Latouffedisco (talk) 08:58, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Images

Hello, I notice you've added {{PD-old}} to most of your images, this is clearly incorrect licensing as in many cases the images are from 1912 and some from 1908. The licensing most likely to be correct is {{PD-US}}. Polly (Parrot) 22:54, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

A user removed the date of birth for this athlete; do you happen to have a source that claims his birthdate so that we can reinsert it? Cheers, CP 15:38, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Sorry no. It looks like that this user created this article with a copy of Jan Heřmánek and forgot to remove the DoB. Doma-w (talk) 22:01, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
Ah, that makes sense. Thanks for the info! Cheers, CP 15:47, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi!Thanks for this interesting link!It will allow me to create an article about this player. I found also his stats in France in a book of mine. That's perfect. Kind regards.--Latouffedisco (talk) 17:09, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Re:Bobsleigh 1948

I was not aware of the adjustment done on the four-man event adjustment for the bobsleigh events at the 1948 Winter Olympics for the French teams. If that is the case, let's adjust it as such. Also on the René Charlet and the diatric, I was unaware that the biography had a diatric so that is ignorance on my end. Sorry about that. Chris (talk) 14:20, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Athlete notability

No problem. I'm just not sure that someone is going to come looking for these articles, so many years after the event that seemingly makes these athletes notable. A one-sentence article that isn't likely to be expanded just doesn't seem like a worthwhile investment of your diligent editing skills. And that AFD would seem to set a precedent to delete most of them. Anyhow, happy editing, xenocidic (talk) 18:25, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Stanley Benham

I saw the edits you did on Stanley Benham and liked what you did. The only adjustment I made to your edits was in the medal table in removing "Men's" from the Bobsleigh part uncer the medal sport. I did this because the events already have their gender defined (Two-man, Four-man). I do the same thing with women's bobsleigh as the two-woman event and with the men's and women's skeleton. This is trying to avoid redundancy. Chris (talk) 15:07, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

  • The reason I don't put the gender on the respective events is that I am trying to avoid redundancy among the articles. If you have men's ice hockey and women's ice hockey on a medal table, I would put the medal that athlete earned, when they earned it, and the gender on the last column while keeping the medal sport gender nuetral. I am very aware that many sports started as male-only, then later expanded to include both male and female genders, but some of the events listed at the Olympics are gender defined, such as men's and women's skeleton or the two-man, two-woman, and four-man, as an example. I had forgetten to mention, but we could use your help for the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing and getting information on the athletes who both medal and compete in the respective events. I am not certain which sports I will do yet because the Summer Olympics have never piqued my interest quite like the Winter Games have. Chris (talk) 22:48, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Request to move article Ronald Gërçaliu incomplete

You recently filed a request at Wikipedia:Requested moves to move the page Ronald Gërçaliu to a different title - however your proposal is either incomplete or has been contested as being controversial. As a result, it has been moved to the incomplete and contested proposals section. Requests that remain incomplete after five days will be removed.

Please make sure you have completed all three of the following:

  1. Added {{move|NewName}} at the top of the talk page of the page you want moved, replacing "NewName" with the new name for the article. This creates the required template for you there.
  2. Added {{subst:RMtalk|NewName|reason for move}} to the bottom of the talk page of the page you want to be moved, to automatically create a discussion section there.
  3. Added {{subst:RMlink|PageName|NewName|reason for move}} to the top of today's section here.

Hi,

Do you have a source for the fact that he is living (and therefore over 100 years old)? If he is alive and 100+, I would like to add him to List of centenarians, not to mention that it is a requirement of WP:BLP. Cheers, CP 04:19, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

No, I havn't, sorry. The Polish link doesn't say anything about his death. Kind regards Doma-w (talk) 08:27, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
While we're on the topic, do you have sources for:
  1. Olaf Dufseth's birthday being December 19, 1917 instead of March 18, 1918, which is what the news articles cited say; and
  2. Frederick Simpson's alternate birthday of December 28, 1907?

They fall under WP:BLP, so these need to be cited. Cheers, CP 23:42, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

I asked User:Gh. He is working together with Bill Mallon on a database. Hopefully this database will become online soon. Kind regards Doma-w (talk) 23:48, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Well, until it does, I have to revert those edits per WP:BLP and WP:PROVEIT, otherwise it will be construed as original research. Cheers, CP 00:05, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
Of course, do what ever you want... And there is no need to ask me in the future. By the way, I can not see your source for the DoB of Dufseth. Kind regards Doma-w (talk) 10:44, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
Of course there's a need! No sense is reverting a good edit! And certainly, my sources for the DoB of Dufseth are the two Norwegian sources that I added to the page. The first one only gave his age, so I figured that he was born in 1917 or 1918. The second one gave his date of birth as March 15, 1918, so I added. I used Google Translate, however, and I don't speak Norwegian, so if I am incorrect (I'm not sure what other languages you speak aside from English), please let me know! Cheers, CP 00:56, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
Olaf Dufseth correct DOB is December 19, 1917, confirmed by my Norwegian friend. I don't see either in those articles where his birth date is mentioned. Gh (talk) 13:07, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

Irish polo and hockey players

Can you please explain why you reverted my edits on the Irish polo and hockey players from the 1908 Olympics, particularly why you deleted links to the Ireland national field hockey team. In addition my edits were considerably more accurate then yours. For example a British team called Ireland. This is poor. Djln --Djln (talk) 18:00, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Yes I know I am poor. And I have no idea about Olympic Games. And it is great that you have reverted MY edits (now twice). But Ireland does not exit in 1908 and a team called "Ireland" is not the Irish national team. To play in a team called "Ireland" does not mean that all these players were Irish? They all represented Great Britain at the 1908 Summer Olympics. And up to now categories like "Olympic polo players of Ireland" were only used if a player represented that country. But like above, do what ever you want. Kind reagrds Doma-w (talk) 08:02, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
No, I am sorry, I did not mean that Ireland did not exist in 1908 of course. But Ireland was not a seperate nation in 1908 and did not competed as seperate nation at this Olympics. The Olympic Council of Ireland was founded in 1922. So all three polo teams and four hockey teams represented "Great Britain at the 1908 Summer Olympics".
This is like Soviet Union or Czechoslovakia. An Ukrainian field hockey player who competed e.g. in 1960 is also only in cats "Ukrainian field hockey players", "Soviet field hockey players", and "Olympic field hockey players of the Soviet Union", but he is not in "Olympic field hockey players of Ukraine". Also I am very careful with the nationality. In early Olympics the teams did not compete as nations like we know this nowadays. They more likely competed as clubs (e.g. the gymnastics clubs in 1904, many of the members of that teams never had American citizenship), or e.g. the ice hockey tournament in 1920 when four of the players of the American team were Canadian citizens. Sorrily I do not know where to find a source about these "Irish" players, we even do not know their place of birth.
This is not the first time that I discuss all this problems about early Irish competitiors/medalists. About one years ago I had the idea to create cats like "Irish pre-1924 Olympic competitors" or "Irish pre-1924 Olympic medalists" but this cats and an article about this topic were never realized. But I saw that you have created the cat "Olympic competitors from Ireland who represented other countries". This is also tricky I think. Like John Daly (athlete) who represented "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland" in 1904, so can we say that he "represented an other country"? Wasn't the "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland" is home country? Or Patrick Flynn (athlete), here you have added the cat "Irish athletes", but is there any source that he was also an "Irish athlete"? He was born in Ireland, but maybe he moved to the United States when he was one year old and had already American citizanship when he started with athletics at the age of 10. So can when really say that he was an Irish athlete? This is like Miroslav Klose, he was born in Poland but he is not a "Polish footballer" or Arnold Schwarzenegger, born in Austria but he is not an "Austrian politician". Thank you and kind regards Doma-w (talk) 00:32, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
  • Nationality it seems to be a very prickly subject on Wiki.
    • I think the 1908 case is different to the Soviet Union / Ukraine example. The two teams competed under the name Ireland. As far as I am aware the Ukraine name was not used to describe any team during the Soviet era. Therefore I think it is perfectly legitimate to describe these players as Irish regardless of were they were born or the fact that they were part of the wider GB team.
    • Regarding the name of the category. I avoided using a date as there could possibly be Irish people who competed for other countries after 1924. Also John Daly competed for Great Britain at the Summer Olympics as opposed to Ireland at the Summer Olympics. Hence he competed for another team / country. I think this category is legitimate and Daly should remain in it. However if you can think of a better name for the category then go for it. An article on this subject would also be a good idea.
    • As far as I am concerned if you were born in, raised in or represented Ireland that makes you Irish. It gave me a good laugh when you questioned the Irishness of somebody called Patrick Flynn from County Cork. You could not get more Irish if you tried. There will always be people like Arnie and Klose who did not fit perfectly into a nationality category, but I don’t think there can be a single guideline that can adequately cover every single case. Djln --Djln (talk) 22:12, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
Dear David! To change all these categories would change the complete system of categorization of the Olympics. (Up to now competitors are only in the "Cat:Olympic xxx of yyy" when they represented this country) So I think it is necessary to start a discuss on the WP:Olympics talk page, because than there must be changed the categories for some more 100s of competitors especially from the Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia. This is a very complex topic and I know that some users (e.g. User:Neier - He has done a great work) have spent a lot of time to bring them all in line. I think this is a step we can not decide alone. Kind regards Doma-w (talk) 12:59, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
First, thanks for the shout-out. Most of the categorization work I did last year was sorting sports within countries and/or within years; not much on re-categorizing competitors to different nations. I wish I could spend more time on the project, but, things have been busy here since November. My opinion on the "Olympic competitors from Ireland who represented other countries" category is that it should only be used if the person competed under another flag when Ireland also competed as a nation. The Category:Nations at the Olympics. Regarding whether or not the 1908 members should be categorized in Category:Olympic competitors for Ireland or Category:Olympic competitors for Great Britain, we should definitely not make the assumption that just because they were Irish that they would have competed for Ireland in the Olympics. That smacks of WP:OR. The only verifiable source we would have regarding the country the competed for is the IOC; and, if Ireland did not compete in 1908, then, it is very difficult to make a case that they are competitors for Ireland. If we had categories like Category:Irish Olympic competitors, then, they would fit in, regardless of the flag they competed under. But, the categorization scheme is currently centered around the nation which was represented at the games, not necessarily the nationality of the competitors; and, I don't see anything wrong with that. A good example is Category:Olympic competitors for the Unified Team. No such place as "Unified" existed; but, that is the flag they competed under. Neier (talk) 14:21, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
  • The Irish hockey and polo players at 1908 competed for teams that played as Ireland. I have no objection to them being placed in categories for British Olympians. However it should also be recognised that they were Irish. I think the best way forward would be to create the category Irish Olympic competitors with subcategories. I think the Olympic competitors from Ireland who represented other countries is still valid and should be kept. If these athletes were just placed in a category for Irish Olympic competitors the point that they represented another country would be lost. There are a number of issues regarding pre-1924 Irish athletes and the countries they represented. Several athletes including Tom Kiely, Peter O'Connor, John Daly and Cornelius Leahy declared that they represented Ireland and not GB. This report on the St. Louis Games even lists Daly as representing Ireland (pgs 75 and 119) [1]. Yet Daly et al were previously just listed just a British Olympians. It should be acknowledged they were Irish and wanted to represent Ireland. Djln --Djln (talk) 18:06, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
  • I will work on a header as you suggest. I believe that all the those currently in the category; Irish competitors for other countries are actually medal winners as well. So another category for medal winners might be exactly same. Djln --Djln (talk) 20:02, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
  • I look forward to you adding to more articles. This link [2] (pg 234) lists Irish hockey players and their teams. It might be of interest to you. Just as a matter of interest. I think the phrase British Irish is not correct. It is not term used to describe Irish people and may cause offence, especially to those from what is now the Republic of Ireland. I think the phrase an Irish athlete/sportsmen who represented Britain / UK would be less controversial. Cheers Djln --Djln (talk) 20:21, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi! When it comes to sportspeople who died young in the 1940s, they most likely participated in the war. I found a source for Werner Spannagel's participation. Any more sportspeople who fit the description of dying young? Punkmorten (talk) 18:05, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Up to now I tried to add the corresponding cat if I knew that they died during the war as military personal. For Werner Spannagel this info is new for me also. Doma-w (talk) 13:30, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Danish Handball players from 1980 Olympics

Very nice work starting at least two of these articles (sample). There seem to be no cited sources though (see also: WP:CITE and WP:V) so could you please add a source from which the information can be verified?
Cheers, JaakobouChalk Talk 02:46, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

I have started all of them. And I will add the refs in the next weeks. Doma-w (talk) 13:30, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

2008 Olympic Template

As a leading editor at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Olympics, you should be aware that I think a rash template deletion decision is being made at Wikipedia:Templates_for_deletion/Log/2008_August_18#Template:Nations_at_the_2008_Summer_Olympics. I have attempted to created the sidebar template Template:Nations at the 2008 Summer Olympics to complement Template:NOCin2008SummerOlympics as a navigational aid for some of the larger countries. Although the links are the same it is not redundant because it greatly improves the experience for the reader who wants to quickly visit different countries. When I visit a page like United States at the 2008 Summer Olympics, I often want to jump to another page and I don't think I am the only reader who would like to do so. Currently, the reader has to scroll down for pages and pages in hopes that the proper template is at the bottom. It would help the reader if there were a sidebar navbox like the one I created. It is not uncommon for a sidebar to include only duplicate links of a template at the bottom (See Barack Obama, which has a sidebar template that includes only redundant links).--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 13:22, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

Chinese Women's Handball Players in 1984 Olympics

Hi there, I noticed you created most Chinese Women's Handball Players who competed in 1984 Olympics and won a bronze medal. I'm not sure whether you've covered the whole list. I was editing China at the 1984 Summer Olympics, and obtained the team roster from a Chinese source. There're still few red spots to fill. So do you have the English source of the name list of the team in that year? That could help verify my information. Thanks. Ramtears (talk) 23:20, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

No, sorry, I have not. It looks like, that the two players you added to the squad (15 players were allowed) are the two reserve players which did not play in a single match and were not awarded with medals (according to the IOC medal database). Doma-w (talk) 13:30, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Image:2008 Olympic Green Tennis Center.JPG

Hi Doma-w. I have uploaded Image:2008 Olympic Green Tennis Center.JPG, originally created by you, to Commons as commons:Image:2008 Olympic Green Tennis Center.JPG. It is meant to be used at swedish wikipedia in the article sv:Pekings Tennisstadion. I've used the GFDL-license, same as you did of cause, and I hope you don't mind. If there are any problems, whatever it is, please give me a note at my swedish account. I'm afraid I don't check the account here often enough. Thank you. Best regards // Mankash (talk) 00:49, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi again. I see that you're also the author of Image:2008 Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium.JPG and Image:2008 Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium 2.JPG aswell. I'm planning to do the same thing with them, they are excellent pictures of samething I have not found on Commons. Best regards // Mankash (talk) 04:22, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
Thank you! Best regards // Mankash (talk) 10:12, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

I've just added back in the {{infobox gymnast}} that you removed for no apparent reason -- can you avoid removing it in the future? -- ratarsed (talk) 16:30, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

This infobox with no information is unnecessary. Which info is added in addition to the article?? This infobox makes it only harder to see the medals he has won. Maybe it is better to avoid adding this infobox to articles like this in the future? Doma-w (talk) 17:25, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
That could be said of any infobox though, surely (per WP:IBX)? In this case, the article is just a stub anyway, but had the gymnast had eponymous moves, or more detailed coverage of his career, then it would be more useful as the data being summarised would've been more difficult to find. -- ratarsed (talk) 18:03, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
Yes for articles like Roger Federer an infobox is perfect, but for stubies like this? I think it would be better to add infoboxes when there is enough info - as the name says "infobox"... Kind regards Doma-w (talk) 18:18, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

Images

Hi. I wonder, why don't you upload the GFDL imaegs directly to the Commons? In this way, they will be available to all WP projects. Greetings. --Tone 19:31, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Hmm, well... I do not really know... At first I had no experience about images, then I thought I have only a few... And I still have no account there... Do you think it is better to move them all? Doma-w (talk) 19:47, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
In future, you upload the new images to commons. If you have merged your accounts, you automatically have an accout there already. (if not, do it :-)). I think there is a bot that moves the free images to commons so I don't think there is an urgent need to move them manually. Cheers. --Tone 19:53, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
"If you have merged your accounts"? How does that work?? Can you please help me? This is the second time you invite me! Do you remember? :) Kind regards Doma-w (talk) 20:15, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
I remember :-) Here is the link. This is useful since you log in once and it works for all the projects. --Tone 20:22, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
Thank you, but I am still confused... At first I had to create an account at commons and then I had to merge them? Kind regards Doma-w (talk) 22:15, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
Well, when you go through the process, the accounts for all the projects (the ones you haven't created yet) are automatically created. A problem may be if you have different usernames on different projects but I suppose you don't. --Tone 09:54, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
Hmm, look's like I am to old for things like this...When I go to the link you gave me (Here), what's next? Sorry... Kind regards Doma-w (talk) 10:59, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
Don't worry. The easier way is to go directly to Special:MergeAccount and follow the procedure there. It's simple. --Tone 11:06, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
Ah! I have it! Many thanks! Do you know how I can transfer all my images to Commons? Kind regards Doma-w (talk) 13:28, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
They are many... probably a bot can do this, no need to do it manually. Just upload the new images to Commons. --Tone 14:23, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Yes, about 170? What is a bot? Yes, I will now upload all new to Commons. Kind regards Doma-w (talk) 14:36, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

A bot is an automated scrypt (a program) that does some things that would be time consuming to do manually and don't need much thinking. Such as moving images :-) Works also well with correcting spelling mistakes or adding interwiki links. --Tone 16:17, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
Puhh! If I can learn this...? :) Doma-w (talk) 19:42, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
You can, but it requires some programming skills. I don't use bots but some users do. Actually, I don't need to use one for the kind of work I do here anyway... --Tone 22:24, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
Yes, it's the same to me. Maybe it is easier for me to do it manual when somebody again request one of my images. Thanks for all and kind regards Doma-w (talk) 22:58, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

The article says that Josef Čada has never represented the Czech Republic in artistic gymnastics, yet you keep adding the category Category:Czech artistic gymnasts -- is there a reason? -- ratarsed (talk) 20:36, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

I know that he never represented the Czech Republic, but in this case I think this is not the question? I think this is a question of his origin and he was Czech and not Slovak. Like a gymnast who represented Great Britian can also be an "English gymnast". Or a gymnast who represented the Soviet Union can also be e.g. an Ukrainian gymnast? Maybe the head of the cat Category:Czech artistic gymnasts with "Artistic gymnasts that have represented the Czech Republic" is not the best (Maybe the head can be "Artistic gymnasts of Czech origin". Or the cat had to be renamed to "Category:Czech Republic artistic gymnasts"?) Please see Category:Ukrainian artistic gymnasts there is no head. And the head of Category:Ukrainian gymnasts only says "Gymnasts from Ukraine". Or to you have a better idea to show that Josef Čada was a Czech gymnast? Kind regards Doma-w (talk) 21:06, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
The thing is that "Category:Czech artistic gymnasts" is under a "by nationality" category (as opposed to a "by ethnicity" category). Regarding the Ukrainian example, did you mean a case like Igor Korobchinsky who is in and represented both Category:Ukrainian artistic gymnasts and Category:Soviet artistic gymnasts? For the English gymnasts, they will have represented England independently of the UK as a whole (for example, at the Commonwealth Games). With Josef Čada being under Category:Czechoslovak artistic gymnasts there is no statement or implication that he is of Slovak origin, and in fact the article has an unsourced statement saying he is of Czech ethnicity (this needs a citation, too). If anything a Category:Bohemian artistic gymnasts needs to be created as he represented Bohemia at the Olympics. -- ratarsed (talk) 07:03, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
I think for former countries like Czechoslovakia, Soviet Union, and also Yugoslavia it is necessary to categorizes the competitiors also in a cat for their ethnic (and now independent country). The cats already exist, so this is very easy. No, Igor Korobchinsky is not the best example. But please see e.g. Alexandr Romankov he is categorized as "Russian fencers" as well as "Soviet fencers", but he never represented "Russia" or e.g. Vladimir Beara he is categorized "Yugoslavian footballers" as well as "Croatian footballers", but he never represented "Croatia". (But both would have represented Russia respectively Croatia if their countries would have been independent.)
For Josef Čada: This would be the first cat for "Bohemians" up to now no sportspeolpe are categorized like this :)
I will ask the cat expert User:Neier, who has done a great job on many, many cats, to have a look here. Kind regards Doma-w (talk) 07:48, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
Category:Olympic gymnasts of Bohemia does exist though. My issue is that categories have no way to add any form of citation to say that the person in question is there for ethnicity as opposed to nationality -- it would also cause issues for the countries that have gone through a number of names/configurations in their times, such as Serbia, I don't think it'd be right to include all the variants, really? The only guidance I could see was over at Wikipedia:Categorization of people which just says "Currently, Wikipedia also supports categorizing People by religion and People by race or ethnicity. The placement of people in these categories may be problematic.". -- ratarsed (talk) 08:07, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
Yes, Category:Olympic competitors for Bohemia with subcats exist, but Category:Bohamian sportspeople with subcats (e.g. Category:Bohemian artistic gymnasts) does not exist.
Yes, it may be problematic, but it is possible. And I still think it insults e.g. Vladimir Beara not to be categorized as "Croatian footballers"? Kind regards Doma-w (talk) 09:21, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
But conversely, it makes little sense for Nastia Liukin to be under Category:Russian artistic gymnasts or Category:Soviet artistic gymnasts even though she was born in Russia whilst it was under the Soviet Union. With Vladimir Beara, there is no reference to say he is Croatian, simply that he was born in the area now known as Croatia; if you take Daniel Keatings as an example, whilst born in Kettering (England), he is still Scottish (and has represented Scotland in national competition). There needs to be a verifiable method for categorising these sports people, and I'd say that going by the countries they've represented is at least verifiable, the nationality they identify themselves with is much more difficult to prove. -- ratarsed (talk) 11:33, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Of course we can now discuss every sportsperson... Of course the cats do not depend on the place of birth. Please see, that we do not discuss here if all the cats have citations. A Czech is a Czech and a Scot is a Scot... Kind regards Doma-w (talk) 11:58, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

But how can we know a Czech is a Czech if he's never represented the Czech people, and we have no source to say he is Czech as opposed to maybe identifying himself as Bohemian? I also fail to see why this gymnast should be any different to the other 1,500 or so that are categorised by the countries they have represented. -- ratarsed (talk) 12:24, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
This means that a Scot can only be categorized as Scot when he represented Scottland? (But then the next question is what about e.g. a Scottish painter? He can not represent Schottland, so he can not be categorized as Scottish painter?) May I ask you, is the problem with Mr. Josef Čada now that he never represented the Czech Republic or that there is no source that he is Czech? No, not only this gymnast, all gymnasts (like all other persons) CAN also be categorized according their ethnic. Kind regards and :) Doma-w (talk) 15:19, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Some more images

Hi Doma-w! Again, I have uploaded some of your images to commons. They simply are the best on all wikipedias. This time, I have transferred

A funny thing with commons is that the whole world can use the images. For example, from the previous transfer, except being used on svwp

Your work is obviously appreciated out there! Once again, if there is anything wrong or you have any questions, please write a note on my swedish talk page if you want a fast answer. Thank you. Best regards // Mankash (talk) 18:53, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
