Adding biochemical characteristics sections to bacteria articles
[edit]Hi Editor718787, a belated welcome to Wikipedia! I'm glad to see another editor interested in microbiology here -- there are far too few of us. That said, I question the usefulness of adding big tables of biochemical test results to the pages of several bacteria. My discomfort is basically this: who are they for? This is an encyclopedia. Presumably most of our readers are not professional microbiologists, but rather layfolk who happened across a bacterium's name and wanted to learn more. They certainly won't derive any meaning from Staphylococcus#Biochemical_characteristics_of_Staphylococcus_species. Instead it's just a confusing giant table. Of course, some of our readers are professional microbiologists who might understand and even want this more detailed information. But surely they already know how to find it, and will seek it out in a more reliable source than Wikipedia (if you're a microbiologists in a clinical lab, for example, you're not going to rely only on a table in Wikipedia to decide what microbe you just cultured from a patient sample).
With so few editors interested in microbiology here, editor time is our most precious resource. I think your time would be better spent elsewhere. If I could offer some suggestions, I'd encourage you to look at this bot-generated list of maintenance issues on microbiology pages. It contains issues large and small that may pique your interest. Alternatively, a great way to learn your way around the site is to pick a topic of interest and improve the article on it. Either way, if you have questions/concerns, or if there's anything I can do to be of assistance, please let me know. I wish you all the best. Ajpolino (talk) 14:19, 12 September 2021 (UTC)

[edit]Hallo, Thank you for creating Niphates (sponge) . When you create an article like this with a "disambiguated" title, please make sure that the reader can find it from the basic name (ie Niphates ), by adding or expanding a hatnote, or adding the article to a disambiguation page. This helps the reader to find the article, and also reduces the chance of a future careless editor creating a duplicate article with a slightly different disambiguator. I've fixed this one. Thanks, and Happy Editing. PamD 05:51, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
