License tagging for Image:DD.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:DD.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.
For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 12:06, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, articles should not be moved, as you did to High Risk, without good reason. They need to have a name that is both accurate and intuitive. We have some guidelines in place to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name doesn't follow these guidelines. Also, if a page move is being discussed, consensus needs to be reached before anybody moves the page. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Cenarium (talk) 12:00, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
I've moved the page to High Risk (TV show) as it seems to be the most common denomination in this case ( e.g. The Virgin Queen (TV show), Rollercoaster (TV show), Bull Island (TV show)...). I've fixed the links and the multiple redirects too. Cenarium (talk) 17:01, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (Image:Chaney Lon Jr 1.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Chaney Lon Jr 1.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:19, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit]What are you talking about? If you are referring to Hugh Hefner, his position at Playboy Enterprises is Chief Creative officer as stated on PE's official website. Being a majority stockholder is not an occupation. That's like trying to say having money in a savings account is an occupation. If you are referring to the him being on the girls next door, you can see I removed it by accident, and added it right back, an apologized for removing it. But that is the only 2 things I did on his page.Bleu Bayou (talk) 17:11, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
Its ok I think you must have mixed me up with someone else, because you left this on my page ""Hello. Anything I add is true with the correct refrences. Any questions just ask me. Thanks."" Bleu Bayou (talk) 17:24, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
If you go to my discussion page, then click HISTORY, it only shows one person making a comment on their, when i clicked it, it carried me to you. But i understand mistakes happen. It's coolBleu Bayou (talk) 17:27, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Glenn Strange image
[edit]Your image and fair use template were fine, but the problem is that Commons only accepts completely free images. Screenshots of films don't come under this. Only Wikipedia accepts images that are fair use. Save the image you were trying to upload on to your computer and then upload it through the "It is a screenshot taken of a movie, TV program, computer game, web site, computer program, music video, or other such source" option. I can understand having problems with it, it's a bit confusing. I'll try and help you if you run into any other problems but I'm not all that clever at using Wikipedia. If you'd like I'll try uploading it myself if you can't for whatever reason. --Tombomp (talk) 16:47, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
- Just upload it again but to Wikipedia, not Wikipedia Commons. Don't use the Flickr upload option. Just save it first. You've done it correctly with all the other files you've uploaded here. I'm sorry if I'm not being helpful, I'm just not sure entirely what is difficult :( --Tombomp (talk) 15:23, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:MUMMY'S CURSE.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:MUMMY'S CURSE.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Unspecified source for Image:Chaney_Lon_Jr_1.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Chaney_Lon_Jr_1.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 13:27, 21 March 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MECU≈talk 13:27, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- "This image has been downloaded from the website wikimedia.org." is not a valid source. We can not be a source of an image. You should link to the other image on Wikipedia that you are using as a source, link as :Image.jpg (the : is important!). If it was a fair use image, why we need two images of the same thing need to be explained as well. MECU≈talk 13:54, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- Since you added the source, just remove the template yourself. (I could do it, but I'm trying to teach you to fish.) Just remove the part that has the at the top of the page. You should also remove the free license tag at the bottom, since it doesn't really apply. MECU≈talk 14:11, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Please note the changes
[edit]I have made to Image:Glenn Strange Actor.jpg (diff) and Image:The Mummy's Tomb.jpg (diff). Both now appear in the articles on them. Both of the Fair Use Rationales (FURs) are incomplete, as you didn't provide me the name or place of the source you took the images from nor is that informaiton available on the upload pages. You must tell me that so I can add it to the FURs. Give me the URL of the webpages you downloaded them from; the name of the book you scanned, etc. Note that it appears you uploaded multiple images of Glenn Strange. Fair use cannot abide many images. It's fair use to have one photograph of a deceased individul in an article on him. It's not proper fair use to have five. You see what I'm getting at? By the way, I am glad to help out, but I'm just curious what brought you to me. House of Frankenstein, Glenn Strange Profile (addition)
[edit]Hello. I was on Wikipedian a long time yesterday, actually last night. You really did a swell job on helping me. I admire this a lot. You know how to handle a situation like a real genuine Wikipedian. I want to say thank you so much. I would like to you add another photo as an addition to the Glenn Strange profile. To show him in make-up with his Frankenstein monster acting predecessor, Boris Karloff. They both appeared together in the Universal film "House of Frankenstein".
I know on the Boris Karloff profile there is two pictures on the page showing the effect of the make-up. Great profile on Wikipedia.
I would love it if you could add this picture. http://www.thecolumnists.com/miller/miller320art2.jpg If you need anything let me know.
Thanks so much! Electric Japan (talk) 08:57, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
Ahh okay. First save the file to your computer for that picture in question. On the left of the screen there is a link saying "Upload file", go there, then "it's from somewhere else". Be sure to upload, the file with a "fair use" deal. like here's the one from Frankenstein.
Fair-use rationale for Frankenstein (1931 film)
[edit]- It illustrates the famous character in the iconic make-up look which is internationally recognized as one of the most famous in film and pop culture history.
- It is of lower resolution than the original film (copies made from it will be of inferior quality).
- It represents a single frame from the film, comprising less than 1/20 of a second of the film's running time.
- No free or public domain images showing the same actor in complete make-up exists.
- It does not limit the copyright owners' rights to distribute the film in any way, since it is only one of many images of the character in the film.
- It is being used for informational purposes only by a non-profit organisation.
okay, something like that. Then place the image where wanted.
with code like this except start it with two ['s.
[Image:The creature and Maria.jpg|thumb|200px|left|The creature having befriended little Maria.]
That should do it! Play around with it in the sandbox if you want to experiment first. :)

Image placement
[edit]
I'm not sure what article you want to place it into, but here's a common form of the code we use to place images in articles:
You can also specify left: "left|
" (right is default, so there's no need to specify it), and the size by adding a number: "100px|
" but most images are right justified and the defualt size is fine. So for this image you might use:

Hope this helps.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 20:02, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:J. Franciscus.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:J. Franciscus.jpg.
Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:32, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

location
[edit]Being that Japan runs more or less diagonally from NE to SW, and that while the term Tôhoku is quite common, I have never heard anyone say Saihoku or Seihoku or the like, I'm curious, purely out of curiosity, as to where you are and what your idea of "NW Japan" is. I suppose it could refer to anywhere along the northern coast of the western prefectures (Shimane, Tottori) or the western coast of Tohoku, but... LordAmeth (talk) 23:13, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Frankenstein meets The Wolfman, Lon Chaney Jr..jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Frankenstein meets The Wolfman, Lon Chaney Jr..jpg.
Your uploads
[edit]Good day. I see that you have uploaded a number of images to Wikipedia. First off, thank you for your contributions. Unfortunately, there are some guidelines that we need to follow with copyrighted images. Specifically, you need to add a source for the image (a link to a website will do), a copyright tag (there are some listed at WP:ICT), and a rationale explaining why we can use a copyrighted image (explained at WP:NFURG). I see that your images fail to include one of these. Please stop uploading images and address the concerns listed above. If you need assistance, you can ask at the help desk. If you do not fix these images, and you continue to make bad uploads, you will be blocked and your images will be deleted. Thanks for your contributions! --uǝʌǝsʎʇɹoɟʇs(st47) 18:33, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

- A few things:
- I'm not totally clear on what you need. Do you want that page you blanked to be deleted and removed from Wikipedia? Is there another page that you need to be protected?
- Finally, when you leave message, you can leave them under the same header. You don't need a new section for each one.
- Hope that helps, Enigma message 16:25, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Welcome
[edit]Welcome!
Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. The following links will help you begin editing on Wikipedia:
- The Five Pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page
- Editing tutorial
- Picture tutorial
- How to write a great article
- Naming conventions
- Manual of Style
Please bear these points in mind while editing Wikipedia:
- Respect intellectual property rights - do not copy and paste text or images directly from other websites.
- Maintain a neutral point of view when editing articles - this is possibly the most important Wikipedia policy.
- If you are testing, please use the Sandbox to do so.
- Do not add troublesome content to any article, such as: copyrighted text, advertising or promotional messages, and text that is not related to an article's subject. Adding such information or otherwise editing articles maliciously is considered vandalism, doing so will result your account being blocked from editing.
The Wikipedia Tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and discussion pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Again, welcome! Image copyright problem with Image:Ghostbusters small.jpg
[edit]Hi Electric Japan!
We thank you for uploading Image:Ghostbusters small.jpg, but there is a problem. Your image is currently missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. Unless you can help by adding a copyright tag, it may be deleted by an Administrator. If you know this information, then we urge you to add a copyright tag to the image description page. We apologize for this, but all images must confirm to policy on Wikipedia.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks so much for your cooperation.

Image copyright problem with Image:Jack with Boris Karloff 1939.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Jack with Boris Karloff 1939.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 07:56, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit]You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Alice Cooper. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. If necessary, pursue dispute resolution. Fair Deal (talk) 13:58, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. Please don't quit Wikipedia; if some people annoy you try to ignore them, and if that is'nt an option, bring it up on the article talk page. Perhaps that won't be very on-sided. Imperial Star Destroyer (talk) 17:52, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit]My Japanese Wikipedian, how is things over there? I like your username very much and yes he did deserve that award, i have seen many users like him and i just hope he keeps it up and doesn't let the vandals get to him! Your comment about elimination of bad editors, well when they are bad enough they get blocked so they cant edit the site again. You must remember this is the wiki that anyone can edit and there have been times where vandals have gone onto become very good editors. Take care my friend and maybe whenever you see someone doing good on the site you should give them an award also, im sure it'll put a smile on their face. Cheap Trick
[edit]Yes, their Budokan performance (and resulting album) were important, but the detail was needlessly excessive, veered off-topic, and had no citations. WesleyDodds (talk) 07:35, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- There are basic lesson you need to learn when editing articles. Firstly, attribute everything to reliable sources in proper reference formatting. You can find much basic information on music topics at rollingstone.com; depending on how much of a mainstream media presence a group has, nytimes.com and time.com might provide information. Format all references correctly: list author, article title and URL, publication, date of publication, and the date you visited the page for web sources. An easy wasy to do this is to follow the template at Template:Cite web. Once you get the hang of it, you can switch to formatting manually. Now it's also a requirement that articles be well-written. This includes avoiding unnecessary detail and/or trivia. Also ask yourself if the information might go more appropriately in a different article. If you got a lot to say about At Budokan, then that information probably belongs in the At Budokan article. Given the band article has to cover its entire career, only include the essential details. Finally, always assume good faith when working with others. I'm not here to make editing on Wikipedia difficult for you, and I doubt anyone else is either. If someone does a drastic edit claiming they are trying to improve an article, they usually are honestly trying to improve an article. WesleyDodds (talk) 07:55, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

- Hello, again. I see you've been around for about six months, so you probably know that user talk pages are used to contact other editors. It's good form to create a new section when one leaves another editor a message. If you look closely at my message on User talk:Scarian, you'll see that I used a section heading named, "Jameselmo (talk · contribs)" to discuss that topic. Is your name "Jameselmo"? Disputed non-free use rationale for Image:Jack Pierce and Lon Chaney Jr..jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading Image:Jack Pierce and Lon Chaney Jr..jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stifle (talk) 11:20, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

It's late here where I am
[edit]I am really surprised to see the message you sent me. There is plenty of articles on Wikipedia with more than two pictures added on. Compareable to say the least. Wikipedia is now promoting the artist who has been ignored for years with his own creations. Adding knowledge to the readers who are interested in knowing this unjustly forgotten man. Wikipedia is meant to boost the awareness of individuals who have contributed to all fields. I see no diffrence with his well-known iconic creations. Electric Japan (talk) 14:58, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
- Did you read the message at all? There is nothing wrong with having the images I mentioned on Wikipedia; they must simply have a non-free use rationale added in order to comply with the non-free content criteria. The template Non-free use rationale may be helpful to you. You can ask at media copyright questions if you're having difficulty adding this. Stifle (talk) 15:00, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
WikiProject Horror needs your help
[edit]Electric Japan : You've received this message as you are listed as a WikiProject Horror Participant. As you may have noticed, WikiProject Horror has suffered from a lack of direction and coordination of late. A suggestion on how to improve the Project and maintain it as a viable resource has been placed up for discussion here. As a member of the Project, your voice is valued and your input is requested. Thank you, hornoir (talk) 00:10, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for your interest in helping, Electric Japan. At current, we are discussing ways to restructure and improve the project, so please feel free to join the discussion here. If, on the other hand, you don't really have any opinions as to the structure of the Project (which is perfectly okay), then we'll recontact you after the restructure… we're hoping to include a monthly newsletter from now on, which would keep the Project's membership informed of tasks that need to be accomplished (like articles in desperate need of work), and we hope to bring back the Collaboration of the Month, which was an article that needed improvement and we were asking all participants to try and help improve.
- In the meantime, keep improving horror articles — it is what we are here for, afterall. I'd suggest checking out Halloween (1978 film), Night of the Living Dead, and Tenebrae (film), as these are regarded as some of the best presentations among horror film articles. Try and improve other films that you know about to the level of information those three articles have.
- If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me or start a new discussion on the Project's talk page.
- Thanks again for your interest. hornoir (talk) 13:56, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

WikiProject Horror Newsletter - April 2009
[edit]
→ Please direct all enquiries to the WikiProject talk page. Replaceable fair use Image:Larry Storch.jpg[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Larry Storch.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself. If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. 72.88.68.185 (talk) 04:37, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image (File:BlacknBlue.jpg)[edit]If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject). If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy.
