Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Francescarye. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. DMacks (talk) 16:32, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I am a student at the university of Dundee completing an internship with the university of Dundee museum. The curator is providing me with text which I am then using to update or create new Wikipedia pages. I am also uploading photos from the university of Dundee museum collections to relevant Wikipedia pages. Francescarye (talk) 17:33, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

Decline reason:

Now that you know you are a paid editor (see WP:PAID) with a conflict of interest (WP:COI), what specific steps would you take prior to editing articles? How would your future edits differ from your previous edits? What would you write about instead? Yamla (talk) 17:39, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I am not a paid editor, I am a student at university completing an internship module, and updating pages that I am asked to. Francescarye (talk) 17:49, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
See WP:PAID, which says, "Interns are considered employees for this purpose. If they are directed or expected to edit Wikipedia as part of an internship, they must disclose." Please, please take the time to read the policies we've linked you to. There's no possibility you'll be unblocked until you convince us you understand these policies. --Yamla (talk) 17:51, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Disclosing Internship

[edit]

I am currently completing an internship as part of my university module. I am in second year at the University of Dundee and my internship module requires me to update and create pages using information that the Curator of the museum of the university of Dundee sends me. I am not directly connected to any subjects that I write about.

You are also evading your block by editing as User:Cheska55. Theroadislong (talk) 19:45, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I am very sorry I created that account as I had university work due for my internship that I could not complete whilst waiting to be unblocked. I understand this was wrong I am sorry.

You say you are not directly connected with the subjects of your edits right after describing your connection to them. This tells me you do not understand our policies. What you have been tasked with doing is not a concern of Wikipedia. Feel free to show the curator these messages. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 17:09, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

University of Dundee will need to change their requirements for the module, spamming Wikipedia with information from the museum's curator, is not compatible with Wikipedias goals. All edits of yours and your socks have been reverted. Theroadislong (talk) 16:40, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have put a lot of work into those pages, all information that he provides me with is reliable from good sources that he has found, please can you not delete all of my work!

  • Francescarye, deliberately or not, you are using Wikipedia to promote something, and that's not what we're for. You may want to have a look at this essay about handling situations where a superior asks you to edit Wikipedia. Please do not continue to evade your block; contributions made in violation of a block will be summarily reverted or deleted in almost all cases.
