Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 18:30, 14 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, have you found any other sources confirming the naming of this ship? (Like an announcement, or press release from the Navy?) I can't seem to find anything else, other than the passing mention in the HII page you cited. I'm not doubting it, it's just I was looking to create a new article for the ship, but when looking into the namesake, (I believe it's named after USMC LTG Frank E. Petersen), I found an issue; his name is Petersen, but the HII page spells it as "Peterson". Do you have any more info? Thanks - theWOLFchild 18:24, 31 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

No, i have only found the HII press release. --GDK (talk) 06:39, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'm pretty sure it's Petersen. I've created a stub for the ship and corrected the name at the list of ships and the Burke-class page. On the very unlikely chance that I'm wrong, then I'll fix everything I did. Cheers - theWOLFchild 17:16, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

MSC classes

[edit]

When I updated the List of current United States Navy ships and added the MSC ships, I basically listed the classes for the unknowns with the ship name, until some sources could be found to confirm. I see you changed them all, as per the MSC chart. I think going by just a silhouette is rather tenuous, no? They use the same silhouette for all the Sealift T-AKR classes, (Gordon, Bob Hope, Shughart & Watson), but we know some of them are different. I'm not looking to change your edit, since we don't have anything better to go by right now, but I will ask that you keep an eye out for any sources we can use to update those classes, or any or any of the info on that page. It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for all your help. Cheers - theWOLFchild 23:16, 4 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The four ships (Black Powder, Westwind, Arrowhead, Eagleview) are well known to be type 250EDF OSVs from Hornbeck Offshore Services. All same size, same specifications, same appearance. see e.g. http://www.naval-technology.com/news/newsus-navy-purchases-three-osvs-from-hornbeck-offshore-4525136 --GDK (talk) 06:04, 5 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Well great! If you have a source confirming all four ships are Black Powder-class, then please add it to the entries on the list. Thanks - theWOLFchild 09:15, 5 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

USN ship name change

[edit]

Yes, we all saw an annoument of a name that will be changed at some point (soon, I'm sure), meanwhile, the check the NVR entry - it hasn't been changed yet. Check the actual article - it hasn't been changed yet. Check the article talk pages, they've been directed to a discussion at WT:SHIPS, regarding these name changes. That discussion is currently ongoing, no decisions have been made and so - no changes have been made yet. Therefore, your edit at the USN List of Ships is premature and innaccurate, and needs to be reverted. (That doesn't even take wp:brd into account: you made an edit, it was reverted, you then discuss, you don't keep reverting as that is called edit warring. (And you already know this.) I don't know why you are so anxious to jump the gun on this, but a little patience until everything is resolved will not kill you. Please self-revert and wait until the name is actually changed. Thank you - wolf 15:21, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, so I've read your posts at both the WT:SHIPs discussion and the T-AGS-66 talk page, and again I have to ask, what is the urgency here? Why can't this wait until the discussion comes to a resolution? - wolf 15:44, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
