Fremantle work

Looks great - keep up the good work!! SatuSuro 10:27, 6 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is not a newsletter

[edit]

This is just a tribute.

Anyway. You're getting this note because you've participated in discussion and/or asked for updates to either the Article Feedback Tool or Page Curation. This isn't about either of those things, I'm afraid ;p. We've recently started working on yet another project: Echo, a notifications system to augment the watchlist. There's not much information at the moment, because we're still working out the scope and the concepts, but if you're interested in further updates you can sign up here.

In addition, we'll be holding an office hours session at 21:00 UTC on Wednesday, 14 November in #wikimedia-office - hope to see you all there :). I appreciate it's an annoying time for non-Europeans: if you're interested in chatting about the project but can't make it, give me a shout and I can set up another session if there's enough interest in one particular timezone or a skype call if there isn't. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 10:59, 10 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Image code

[edit]

Hi Gnangarra, thank you for the excellent work you have been doing. I see on your article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hotel_Fremantle that the closing brackets for the image were not placed in and somewhere in between the images caption ran into the opening sentence. I have put in the closing brackets for the image now to appear, but when you get a chance please pop over and make sure that it has the right caption that you wanted and that the article's opening sentence has started the way that you liked it to be. I would add that it would be good practice to read over your material before posting so small things like that can be easily spotted. Anyway, thanks much for the good work and contributions, I have come across a good many of your work and it makes me happy when people busy themselves with such important tasks as listing histories and buildings.

Kindest regards, (MrNiceGuy1113 (talk) 10:51, 1 December 2012 (UTC))[reply]

Just a suggestion: If you are going to write about buildings, don't you think a very important piece of information to include in the article might be the city, state and country it is located in? You also might find that including a Template:Infobox building might give you a place to put basic info such as that and make your article more visually appealing. Glad you are writing about historic structures. They add a lot of interesting content to our Encyclopedia. Thanks! Gtwfan52 (talk) 12:46, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please see Freopedia these articles are being created as part of workshops and follow ups, note that the article base was from a specifc document, if it didnt include that info then it was ommitted. Image caption has the street address Gnangarra 13:34, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If your goal is not to improve the encyclopedia, why are you here? It is good(?), I guess that a local person in Freemantle wants to promote tourism or whatever the goal is, but if you are going to be using Wikipedia to do it, you should create useful articles for Wikipedia, NOT for your project. These are NOT cross purposes. You can accomplish the goal of making the cell phone links and still put a good article on Wikipedia. If a commercial interest wrote an article to promote their own purposes and it didn't meet Wikipedia's policies and guidelines it would be gone in a second. Why should whatever it is you are doing be different? An article about a building needs enough information in it that a person reading it at least knows where it is! I frankly don't care about your documents. A buildings existence is enough reference for the city it is in. You don't need a source, unless for some reason it is contentious. Gtwfan52 (talk) 13:56, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Again, I ask, if you have a source showing the notability, why didn't you add it to the article? It would have taken a minute more! And again I will say, you are NOT doing the encyclopedia a service by adding articles that do not meet notability. Please ask whoever is in charge of this cluster to contact me. The next step will be to involve some administrators. This is silly! Gtwfan52 (talk) 23:28, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Seriously see WP:OWN I dont need to ask your permission neither do the organisors, am I really scared about your threat to involve Administrators do you thing we can work something out. Please read WP:AGF and WP:Notability Gnangarra 23:33, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh and WP:BITE Gnangarra 23:34, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
AGF? You basically told me to buzz off when I asked you about it. AGF is NOT an excuse to just shove crap into the encyclopedia. Why, just because you are part of some organized event to do something do think that means you should get a pass on doing it right? You could have said something like, "Good Idea mate. I'll remember that in the future." and added the damn name of the city into the article. That would have been AGF on your part. But instead you give some flimsy excuse that you are participating in some project as a reason not to do it right. That is not AGF. Did you actually think that the city name wasn't an important part of the article? It would have taken you less time to add the city name than it did to write me back. I have no idea what state Freemantle is in, or i would have done it myself. It would have taken you less time to add the reference to the article than it did to put it in the Afd, which, by the way, you still haven't done. Once it is notable, I will be happy to withdraw the AfD. Your article did not meet notability. You had the info at hand to get it there, but rather than putting it in the article, you are instead arguing about it at AfD. Is it your expectation that someone should come along and clean up after you? If you don't have a complete article, draft it in userspace until you do. BTW, you are the only one showing an attitude of OWN. I haven't even edited on the article, how could I be showing OWN? The ONLY reason to edit on Wikipedia is to improve the encyclopedia, not to create some benefit to a local organization. My gripe in general is probably not with you, but with the event's organizer. However, you certainly could have responded in a more productive way. I will repeat, if the project you are involved in is not telling you that the reason to create articles in Wikipedia is to improve the encyclopedia, they are doing you a disservice. Your article was, and is, not meeting WP:GNG. It was probably not the best idea on my part to nominate it at Afd, but what is done is done. Fix it and I will be happy to withdraw it. This conversation started with a helpful hint to a new editor. Try graciously accepting advice and this never would have happened. You were focused on your project and forgot to look at the forest for seeing a tree. let's get done what needs to get done and move on, ok? Gtwfan52 (talk) 00:09, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of W D Moore & Co Warehouse for deletion

[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article W D Moore & Co Warehouse is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/W D Moore & Co Warehouse until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Gtwfan52 (talk) 13:45, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is that a better way of handling it for you? If you are going to create articles on Wikipedia, they need to be informative and useful to the world, not just your town. If your project is creating a bunch of incomplete articles that really don't make notability, what good is it doing? Gtwfan52 (talk) 13:48, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If low edit users make judgements like this maybe they should be walked to the freopedia project page and have it explained in words of 2 syllables or less, or otherwise hangon should be put on all new freopedia stubs? SatuSuro 23:37, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Na new set of toys to play with everone makes mistakes just WP:AGF and move on, its notable here a few more references I havent reviewed yet that cover most of the 187 buildings that'll get articles Gnangarra 23:41, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have withdrawn my Afd nomination, and I apologize for my over-reaction. Still have reservations about this Wikimania, but possibly they arise out of ignorance. If someone would care to explain (nicely, If you can. I don't really deserve it, but...) how adding articles that are not notable, and instructing the new editors creating them that is ok, benefits Wikipedia? What am I missing. You may feel free to trout the hell out of me at the same time. This is a day I should have never touched my keyboard. Gtwfan52 (talk) 02:10, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Old Indef IP Block

[edit]

I was reviewing Category:Indefinitely blocked IP addresses and noticed 203.108.239.12 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log) which you blocked 4 years ago. As we generally try to avoid indef blocks of IPs that may change ownership, and in light of the time since the block, I was wondering if you would reconsider the block duration. I of course would have no objection to reblocking if the IP resumes the conduct that resulted in the block. Monty845 18:28, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Its unlikely thats its changed ownership, it was a commercial agency trying to stop photographs of a cemetery, control content and issuing legal threats against editors/photographers, without a specific request I see no reason to change its status Gnangarra 04:45, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok thanks for the additional info. Monty845 15:48, 22 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Fremantle Fire Station - Old or Former?

[edit]

G'day Gng, Whilst filling in a few coords from this list, I found the Fremantle Fire Station article. Given that it is not the current Fremantle Fire Station, should the article be renamed to Old Fremantle Fire Station or Fremantle Fire Station (former) or similar? I know that the current one is unlikely to be notable enough to have an article, but I think it is a bit misleading. The heritage listing uses (former), but that implies onwiki disambiguation, and the current tennant uses Old Firestation as a business name. I would guess that Old Firestation would be the commonname for the last 30 or so years. Also, do you think you could try to add the coordinate location data when you create the article. Are there many more Freopedia place articles to come? Regards, The-Pope (talk) 16:04, 8 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there - now that we've dealt with the confusion re issues above, I was keen to get back to work on this page. I notice you reverted all the edits I made on Saturday, and thought it may be appropriate to get in touch about restoring them, and expanding on them going forward. Regarding the substance of what was added in there, do you see any issues? To be sure, the article still had issues in the state that I left it, but I feel that what I contributed made a big improvement, especially in the history section.

I'm definitely interested in building on that work and hopefully getting it up to a higher standard, but wanted to bring it up with you first in order to be sure that I wasn't breaching any etiquette (and so I knew it wasn't just going to be removed again!). Interested to hear what you think. Thanks. tim (talk) 11:43, 14 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted the actions of a sockpuppet, policy is that edits of a sockpuppet account are removed, quite surprised that you have been unblocked already normally the main account is blocked as well, at least until assurances are given that you wont repeat the action. I personally wont be restoring the edits of a sockpuppet without wider discussion suggest that you post to the talk page of the article to get consensus for them to be restored. Gnangarra 16:02, 14 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm unblocked because further investigation found it 'unlikely' that I'm the person in question (see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/DavidYork71 for more info). I'll discuss the merits of the edits themselves on the article's talk page. tim (talk) 22:24, 14 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You used multiple accounts that is a sockpuppet Gnangarra 00:48, 15 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, mate, I've done my best to explain myself here - it was an honest mistake, I did my best to be as up front as I could. In any case - the main reasoning behind getting in touch was to make sure that the *content* of what I wrote wasn't problematic. Since it sounds like the main issue was around the account I used, rather than the contribution itself, I'm guessing there weren't any problems there. I'll go ahead and jump in :) tim (talk) 02:52, 15 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
