Surtsicna alias IconicBigBen

Hello, can you please do something about this user IconicBigBan, whom you just warned on his page? He is a new single-purpose account, a sockpuppet of Surtsicna and a Serb nationalist who is simply vandalizing Bosnian Royal Family and reports everyone who disagrees with him as sockpuppets, even if we are on three different continents. See the bottom of Talk:Bosnian_Royal_Family for a proof that he is a Serb nationalist. We don't know how to handle this guy. Thanks. 99.198.121.199 (talk) 00:06, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

Question about page deletion

Hey. I was completely ignorant of the rules regarding page deletion etc., and obviously created pages that were "offside" so to speak. Now, however, google searching pulls up a page about my company being deleted for irrelevancy reasons, etc., which looks bad. I understand the rules a bit better now, and won't try to put the page up again...but is there any way to delete the page that says my page was deleted? It just looks terrible.

Michael.maynard (talk) 02:28, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

As I figure it the search result on Google will disappear on it's own. (I googled a page that was deleted 3 days ago: it didn't come up in the search). I don't know don't know how long it will actually take, but it should clear up on it's own.

The page that says the page was deleted can't be deleted. Jarkeld (talk) 02:52, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

Thanks. Michael.maynard (talk) 03:12, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

Original research

Do you know what "original research" is? Why are you claiming that saying Hobbes contributed to classical liberalism is original research when I put a source there for it which lists him as on of the major "Architects of Classical Liberalism" and says he had a "major impact" on classical liberalism? Can I touch it? (talk) 20:59, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

Please read my reply on your talkpage. Jarkeld (talk) 21:02, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

CSD for "Heaven" Declined

Just wanted to let you know that the reason why I listed it under Hoax is that it's not a forthcoming single. The forthcoming single is Parachute which already has it's own article. This is just an album track. Miyagawa (talk) 13:55, 14 February 2010 (UTC)

Ok, thanks for the explanation. Didn't see the connection at first. Jarkeld (talk) 14:02, 14 February 2010 (UTC)

Jocelyn Bagot

Jocelyn Bagot was a Member of Parliament and senior public servant. The article was written in my own words and has numerous references. What do you want - blood???? Plucas58 (talk) 15:01, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

What are you talking about? I already removed the CSD tag days ago. The other tags weren't placed by me. Jarkeld (talk) 21:20, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

Please have another look at the prod tag you placed; it's good practice to do a google search before prodding an article. More sources can be added if needed. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 00:08, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

Most of the time I do and I think I nominated it for WP:CSD not WP:PROD. Jarkeld (talk) 00:11, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
Correct (I misspoke). Still notable, most likely. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 00:11, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
I'll take another good look. Thanks for the notification. Jarkeld (talk) 00:14, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. Sources and text there can still be improved, but I think I've moved it out of deletion territory for now. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 00:53, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
It looks quite a lot better now. I'll try to improve it a bit if I'm able. Jarkeld (talk) 01:07, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

Reverting vandalism

Thanks for your help on reverting the vandalism on dogo argentino! CheesyBiscuit (talk) 18:53, 17 March 2010 (UTC)

I saw that the ip was doing the same at Dogo Argentino as he was doing at Peter Bielkowicz so I thought I'd try and help removing his vandalism at both pages. Jarkeld (talk) 19:05, 17 March 2010 (UTC)

Why vandalize Peter Bielkwocz

Why are you vandalizing the Peter Bielkwocz, is it because of dogo argentino preferences? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.17.25.219 (talk) 18:59, 17 March 2010 (UTC)

My main focus is Peter Bielkowicz, an article I have been trying to keep an eye on. You keep reverting to older and less well written versions. That is considered vandalism. Please read the talkpage of said article.
I noticed in your contribs that you were doing the same to Dogo Argentino so I reverted that vandalism as well. Jarkeld (talk) 19:05, 17 March 2010 (UTC)

G4 wouldn't do it as it was never discussed at any XfD. However, it could and has been deleted per R3-- recently created implausible redirect. The original redirect was created when an earlier article by this title was userfied. As you say when, it has an official title would be the time to consider an article. Cheers, Dlohcierekim 13:49, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

Actually it was as Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Diary of a Wimpy Kid: My Last Year and wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Diary of a Wimpy Kid: My Last Year (2nd nomination). At least that was the reason given for the G4 deletion on 12 March. Should have fixed the link to those AfD's. Jarkeld (talk) 14:45, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

Help me in getting what you need please

Hi, could you please let me know what more you would need for the page Palak Shukla to continue on wiki.

I am new to this site, so may not know a lot but i can certainly put in all the information you require. Please help me doing the same.

Thanks in advance. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.162.112.203 (talk) 04:32, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

The problem is that the article is about a living person and needs to be sourced (see Wikipedia:Blp). The article got tagged with the {{Blpprod}} tag because of this absence of sourcing. Furthermore those sources also need to cover why she is notable (see WP:BIO), otherwise it will get prodded. If you have further questions about this, feel free to ask. Jarkeld (talk) 04:40, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

Hi, the first part can be taken care of, but the second part, where they would tell why she is notable is a bit confusing and i believe no one has time in this hectic world to say things about others, be it good or bad. Can you suggest some good reference page to see as how a person has made there biography. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Oopsalion (talkcontribs) 09:07, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

The link you inserted for the times of India: Couldn't find the item you pointed at. Please specify a year of publication.
I couldn't really find any online sources for notability (8 pages of google hits). But my viewpoint is somewhat narrower than a native person from India. I do not have access to printed media from India. Perhaps an experienced user from India could help you better with that. Jarkeld (talk) 10:14, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

Trying to improve the old page, thanks for deleting the new one, it was by mistake. The site for times of india does not allow me to go directly into the page, we first need to go to the e-paper and then select date and year and then the page no, i gave all the info there, will try again.

Oopsalion (talk) 10:56, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

When I go to the specified date and page of the newspaper you cited, there is no mention of her name, just a picture. Not suitable as a source I'm afraid. You should flesh out the other sources though as they are not usable at this time. The article got AfD'd, so it'll need solid reliable sources. Jarkeld (talk) 11:01, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

PROD on 'Flexatious'

Added db-hoax. Procedurally speaking it might not be the best course of action but db-hoax is probably the most appropriate template to use in this situation. -Reconsider! 14:30, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

Ok. I usually prod and/or afd, as I have had a couple of CSD's declined in this type of situation. Jarkeld (talk) 14:32, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

Request to delete some fake pics=

Hi Dear,

I made changes on the page of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muhammad where I deleted some fake pics which were posted (may be mistakenly). Once I done this it revert back.

It would be highly appreciated if you could help me to delete fake pics which causing wekipedia's this specific article falsefied.

Looking forward for your very positive response.

Thanx in advance.

Please read Talk:Muhammad/FAQ on why we won't remove these images. Jarkeld (talk) 22:00, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

Thank you very much for shareing FAQ about the topic. well, I have entirely different point of view therefore you must agree that pics showing in "western view" is not appropriate and not the version of western world either. 99%+ ppl of west respect all Prophets including Prophet Muhammad (SAW) as all Muslims do for all Prophets.

will you please look into it and I'll be more than happy if you could atleast delete the pics (mohammeddemon2.jpg) under western view section. I am sure you would agree with this point and do the needful.

Thanks in advance. AbdulKhaliq Lone (talk) 19:08, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

As the image depicts the view held in Europe in the Middle Ages its use is appropriate. It has been discussed at Talk:Muhammad/images at the topic "To support the article's neutrality".
Wikipedia is not censored, and never will be. As long as this subject is handled with a neutral point of view and the images enhance the article, they will stay. If you think that particular image should be removed from the article, please join the aforementioned discussion at the talkpage. Jarkeld (talk) 19:23, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Nonsense on Talk page

I wouldn't bother deleting nonsense on the Talk page, it's not even worth your effort. Let him post it, comment that it is inappropriate and then ignore it. If it really bothers you then you might set up an Archive bot, so that after 30 days or a week it will be as good as gone and forgotten. -- Horkana (talk) 22:32, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

I wasn't going to do it ad infinitum. And you are right, most of the time it's a wasted effort. But sometimes you can't help but try. Jarkeld (talk) 22:37, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

Leana MacFadden

Hey there; just a bit of advice to please remember to tag deletable pages for deletion. Tagging them with primarysources or whatnot it is a bit of a waste of time if they're about to be smashed :P. Ironholds (talk) 21:54, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

Hack Forums

Hello, Jarkeld. I hope my inquiry doesn't confuse the situation further, as my intention is to help out with the Hack Forums entry. I have carefully read the talk page and all the recommended Wikipedia guides.

I apologize for this long piece and I appreciate you taking the time to read it. There are five points which I would like your feedback on, with regards to notability for Hack Forums. Thank your very much for any thoughts you may have.

1. Notability of an access technique: The Register (UK) used a post on Hack Forums as a main source for explaining how to access restricted sites. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/08/22/accessing_restricted_sites/

2. Notability of controversial content: The President and CEO of Malwarebytes replied to a challenge about the legitimacy of Hack Forums. While no publication is available publicly on the security issue, it is evident from the exchange that a corporate product was adjusted to block access to controversial content on Hack Forums. http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=36808

3. Notability in hacker culture: A troll called n3td3v from Full Disclosure (see Wikipedia entry) posed as Anti-Sec (see Wikipedia entry) to threaten Hack Forums. The open letter continues to circulate on the internet. Terms used in the letter are available as Wikipedia entries. http://www.cybersec.eu/?p=181 http://seclists.org/fulldisclosure/2009/Jul/164 http://seclists.org/fulldisclosure/2009/Jul/219

4: Notability in hacker culture: No illegal content is hosted on the site, however discussions of hacking tools are allowed. Many unfinished entries in Wikipedia's "Hacker" category suffer from a lack of information sources. The difficulty is that commercial security companies do not publicly release information about hacking tools, while Hack Forums members do. See the Wikipedia entry for "Remote Administration Tools" as an example and the "Hacker" category in general. If required I can do original research to cross-reference information on security sites with Hack Forums. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remote_administration_tool http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hacker_%28computer_security%29

5. Notability for size: Statistical data show that Hack Forums is the largest forum of its content online and the third largest My BB site. Its size is remarkable considering its content, which can be ethically controversial. http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/hackforums.net http://www.thebiggestboards.com/mybb-forums.php http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hacker_ethic

Thank you once again for your feedback. Eve Onlaĭn (talk) 19:53, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

  1. The site is mentioned but only in passing. Fails as a source per WP:GNG
  2. A forum is generally not a reliable source. WP:RS
  3. Non-notable hoax by non-notable person via a marginally notable mailinglist. Not enough for notability.
  4. Links show no direct relation to Hack Forums. Please do not publish original research as it is against policy WP:OR
  5. As said on the AfD page: Alexa is not a tool to assess notability as view counts do not show notability. Please read: WP:ALEXA. The same applies to the other link (Biggest Boards).

All these points make the article fail General notability guideline and Notability for webcontent. Jarkeld (talk) 20:31, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for your responding, Jarkeld. I am disappointed that these points are insufficient but I understand your explanations.

Regarding:

  1. Non-notable hoax by non-notable person via a non-notable mailinglist. Not enough for notability.

As mentioned in my first post, both the Anti-Sec movement and the Full Disclosure mailing list (owned by the Danish computer security company Secunia) have Wikipedia entries: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antisec_Movement http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Full_disclosure

I suppose I would be somewhat comforted if at least this one point meets your requirements!

Eve Onlaĭn (talk) 21:25, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

Full disclosure mentions the mailinglist, but as I read it, it can't be considered reliable (technically owned by Secunia but defacto run by 1 individual?).
Antisec targeting someone is not an automatic pass to notability. the attack on ImageShack was covered by The Register. The targeting of Hack Forum wasn't. Jarkeld (talk) 21:56, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

I see your viewpoint, Jarkeld. Thank you for your patient explanations, I appreciate it. Your observation about the barometer of notability (on the deletion page) was an insightful analogy for me as well.

Kind regards, Eve Onlaĭn (talk) 22:26, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

Online/Offline status

hi, i noticed in the top right hand corner of your profile you have an online and offline status thingy and i have tried to add one myself on my own profile but it is just saying unknown, I was wanting to know if you could please help me to get it working properly. thank you.--Del Boy (talk) 23:34, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

1) only use {{Statustop}} at the top of the page.
2) Create User:Anthony Winward/Status. Type in the status you want: online / offline / busy
If you use FireFox you can use a script to get buttons to change the status. I'll look it up. Jarkeld (talk) 23:48, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
Ok. Insert the following line into your vector.js (Preferences, appearances -> custom .JS for your default skin):

importScript('User:Kraftlos/statusChanger2.js');

That should make it work (after you purge the cache of your browser). Jarkeld (talk) 23:52, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

Cheers--Del Boy (talk) 00:16, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

Icelandic debt referendum: mediation

Recently, a request for formal mediation of the dispute concerning Icelandic debt repayment referendum, 2010 was filed with the Mediation Committee. As an editor concerned in this dispute, you are invited to participate in the mediation. The process of mediation is entirely voluntary and focuses exclusively on the content issues over which there is disagreement. (See also: Wikipedia:Mediation.) Please review the request at Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/Icelandic debt repayment referendum, 2010 and then indicate in the "party agreement" section whether you would agree to participate in the mediation or not.

If you would be willing to participate in the mediation of this dispute but wish for its scope to be adjusted then you may propose on the case talk page amendments or additions to the list of issues to be mediated. Any queries or concerns that you have may be directed to an active mediator of the Committee or by e-mailing the MedCom's private mailing list (click here for details).

Thanks for fighting with user:Wipeouting for his disgusting style of prodding. You seems have some knowlege about Sri Lanka related articles' Please help to save following Sri Lanka related article, if you have enough references about those topics.

thank you --Nidahasa (talk) 17:38, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

Wipeouting's CSD and PROD taggings are problematic as that user is not familiar enough with the guidelines for deletion and he seems to have a bias against Sri Lanka related articles.
As far as knowledge about Sri Lanka related articles go: I'm not that familiar with the subjects. I just conduct searches on the web. I'll take a look at the articles and try to help where I can. Jarkeld (talk) 18:59, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

Feedback

I don't have any bias against Sri Lanka related articles. I tried to make my continuation to Wikipedia. (Wipeouting (talk) 17:09, 26 May 2010 (UTC))

Well it is a fact that most if not all of the articles you CSD, PROD or AfD are about Sri Lanka-related articles.
Your tagging has improved however (with regards to the reasoning, the execution of the tagging still needs a bit of work). Jarkeld (talk) 17:12, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks. If it is possible could you please help me, the Article named Nadini Premadasa Put Sri Lanka related articles deletion Category.Wipeouting (talk) 17:19, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

Not sure why you need my help for that: the AfD already contains the delsort for Sri Lanka related AfD's, added by you. That puts it on the AfD list at the Sri Lanka wikiproject. Jarkeld (talk) 17:50, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

Geert Wilders

Please use talk before reintroducing the NPOV I removed. If you can demonstrate that, unlikely as it seems, all Israelis share Mr WIlders hatred of Islam (even the 20% of Israelis who are Muslims, mind you), or that he was able to enter countries which should legally have barred him, please post that there. Thanks and have a great day 98.88.88.100 (talk) 20:14, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

The material you introduced is not supported by the citations. Read the references for the sections you changed. Please stop edit warring. Jarkeld (talk) 20:16, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

Hi I am editing Jur P. van den Berg's page and I saw your comment when I removed the section on his influences: "It looks plausible that he is influenced by the people mentioned". Can you please provide a reference? Also you are adding his self published page on Berkeley website as a reference. Please remove that you can always add it to external links section. And again why do you keep rolling back to a version that has "He is an industrial engineer" he is a post doctoral staff at Berkeley. Thanks for your edits. I can follow up on this page. 76.20.60.91 (talk) 19:25, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi We still waiting for you action on that article. Please let us know if you are going to do anything for it. That article is not notable but if you are insisting to keep it you need to help make it factual. 99.38.250.245 (talk) 21:45, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
As I haven't turned up anything worthwhile with Google yet to establish notability and since I lack the skills to discern the possible notability of the papers written by the subject please feel free to nominate the article for deletion as either a WP:PROD or a WP:AfD. Jarkeld (talk) 22:11, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
