Hi Jduden - I like your topic. The articles you have suggested for editing look big to me, but on point in terms of topic. I can imagine your incorporation of the data on social media usage, as well as literature we'll hopefully find regarding the differential uses of internet in South America. Hello! I found these pages that talks about public broadcasting in all different areas and I thought it may be helpful for you!

This last page even mentions information with Politics and Arab Spring I think it would be good to have a thesis statement because you have a lot of good ideas but it may be hard to connect them without having a specific direction if that makes sense.

I think that comparing the impact of social media in South America to that of the Arab Spring sounds interesting but I don't think that Wikipedia will allow a stand-alone article for it (see WP:NOTCASE, #9). The Arab Spring article addresses the effect of social media here. It may be possible to explore one or both of those topics on an article such as media activism. I'd advise against editing the Internet article though. As a core topic and one of the most viewed pages on Wikipedia, edits to that page are held to a much higher standard. If you are hoping to edit some existing articles to include a non-Western perspective, you may consider seeking out non-English resources. I am assuming that you have a little Spanish background based upon your work in Venezuela. It may be possible that Spanish language resources will lend a non-Western context to your work. Hi Jduden! You have a great topic in search of an article. Please take Gobonobo's advice to avoid the internet article and his/her advice to work towards an article that is notable. I wonder if the best idea might be to settle down with Media activism. I thought you began with some good ideas in your edits on media activism#limitations. However, I want you to think about issues of bias and also specificity. Is "limitations" the best term to choose? What do North Korea, China, and Venezuela have in common that would be a better header for this section? Also, can we say that media activists meet no surveillance in the U.S. (ask me to tell you about my experience on Twitter during the Occupy movement Des Moines a couple of years ago...)? I think you can insert FABULOUS sections on Venezuela and the Arab Spring into this article - this might be your research home for the class project.

As you revise your three paragraph proposal into a more substantive form, it's time also to clean up your user page and archive some of the messages on your talk page. This will make it easier to work with as we go. Thanks!Prof.Vandegrift (talk) 21:33, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi Jduden. First, off topic, I am jealous of your awesome pink box with archive at the top of your talk page. I will have to ask you to show me how you did that! Anyway...

I'm very pleased with your sources you have proposed. There is one that looks to be U.S. based under the Venezuela section (on FB in 2008), but other than that, I think you have some winners to put in. You also make a cogent argument as to why these need to be included.

Now it's time to figure out an outline - where can you make a contribution? Think in terms of what you would add to the opening paragraph on social media, as well as expanding on social media and activism generally. This is a very timely topic that deserves developing on Wikipedia. I look forward to your contribution!
