Your sourcing skills may be needed

Doctor Who (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) may be on FAR soon, and I was counting on you to find the sources to match the content, seeing as you probably have access to stuff like LexisNexis and I won't. Sceptre (talk) 00:31, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

I don't have direct LexisNexis access, although I can probably get access at the Yale library (I think I'll have to renew my card). Thanks for the heads-up; how soon is "soon"? —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 03:36, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
I reckon between now and the Halloween special. Probably within the next three months. Sceptre (talk) 07:11, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
Oh, that's fine. I'll be away for some of that period, but it still gives us time to get the article into shape. You might want to drop a line to Angmering (talk · contribs) as well — even though he hasn't been that active lately, he might be interested in helping Doctor Who get through FAR. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 19:33, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

AfD nomination of To Market, to Market (M*A*S*H)

Ambox warning pn.svg

I have nominated To Market, to Market (M*A*S*H), an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/To Market, to Market (M*A*S*H). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. ThuranX (talk) 03:05, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

  • Don't forget to express your opinion one way or the other at all the List_of_M*A*S*H_episodes_(Season_1). Every' episode has been nominated individually and there is only a few days left for the comments period to remain open. Even the pilot is up for deletion, and it was nominated for multiple awards. Your opinion one way or the other will determine if the nominator moves on to season two, and starts the tedious process again. 24 episodes are up for deletion, some don't have full plot summaries added yet, but the vote determines whether the episodes have the right to exist to be expanded upon later. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 06:30, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

M*A*S*H articles

moved from user talk ikip

Hi, Ikip. I see that you're adding the episode guide sources to the M*A*S*H episodes, which is great. One small thing: the citation for the Wittebols book uses {{cite news}}, when it should use {{cite book}}. I've been fixing it as I see it, but if you're planning to add it to other pages you may as well add it correctly. I've also been adding the ISBN, publisher and such to the citation. No biggie, though! —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 02:23, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

thanks for your efforts in this. I will change this. It is now on 24 pages. Sorry I didn't do this earlier. Ikip (talk) 02:25, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
No problem! I've fixed it on some. And thanks for your kind invitation to the Article Rescue Squadron. I don't know how much more time I can give to Wikipedia right now, so I think I'll remain an "ally" of the squadron for the time being — but the invitation is appreciated. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 02:33, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
Well, we are planning a Article rescue contest, which you maybe interested in. Ikip (talk) 02:34, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
I moved this here, I will watch your page, thanks. Ikip (talk) 02:36, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

comment from a member of the Article Rescue Squadron? Do you know how to hide a human body? Jwg1994 (talk) 15:34, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

No, I've never had opportunity to need to know that. And although I am sympathetic to the Article Rescue Squadron, I'm not a member. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 15:36, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Laurence Marks (American writer)

I am disambiguating all the Laurence Marks that belong to the American writer, there are about 30 of them in "linked here" to the MASH episodes. The British ones haven't been moved yet. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 18:08, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Do you have any thoughts about restoring the deleted screenshot to episode 2 that was deleted and is under review at [1]? --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 18:13, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Either will do. If you create the link I will start the research. It can always be changed later. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 18:33, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Dick Grayson as Batman

Hi. You reverted my mention that Dick Grayson has become the new Batman, asserting it was going to be temporary, but Grant Morrison has actually confirmed that Bruce Wayne won't be returning as Batman (see this interview: Bruce Wayne is finished as Batman--Dick Grayson is the new secret identity. It may have lasted for 70 years, but that chapter has come to an end. A gx7 (talk) 05:04, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Doctor Who at FAR

I have nominated Doctor Who for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Remove" the article's featured status. help again

Hi, i appreciated your help last fall with NRHP disambiguation. I wonder if you could comment at Talk:Old Mill, where I've been discussing with Mjroots how several big mills disambiguation pages could/should be refined towards compliance with MOSDAB guidelines. Hopefully u may know about when/how non-wikilinked entries can make sense. Your advice would be most appreciated! I also asked PamD to comment. doncram (talk) 05:54, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

Sorry for the late reply — I've commented on the talk page with my two cents, but I'm really not an expert in these things. Good luck! —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 03:39, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Re: IP and edits

Just to note, Special:Contributions/ this editor made the same edit summary on the Ann B. Davis article, after which I requested page protection. I think it's the work of one person on that article, using some sort of dynamic IP, or some IP masking tool, not sure, but we've had all sorts of problems about that article and insertion of content which sometimes has been irrelevant and non-pertinent trivia and at other times was WP:BLP violations. This new edit summary is a backhand personal attack about something the IP apparently read about vision problems that I have that I noted on the talk page for adminstrator Garion96. I'm not so much bothered by the comment, but it was deliberately done to an article I'd just edited (the Liv Tyler you reverted) so I'd see it. Thanks for realizing it and blocking it. Wildhartlivie (talk) 04:02, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

Glad to be of service. Normally, I'd ask you to let me know if the IP-hopping vandal shows up anywhere else, but I'm about to leave for vacation, so I'm afraid I won't be around for the rest of June. But I'm sure that an AN/I report would get a swift response; there's no reason to tolerate this sort of abuse. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 04:31, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

Hello. I have restarted the topic about the Heracles-Hercules question in Talk:Hercules. I too believe for the rather obvious reasons that the two articles should be merged. Feel free to participate in the debate. Miskin (talk) 20:51, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

Another Johnnie liberal pro-gay Christian???

Hi Josiah -- another Johnnie here. I just popped in to say that I really liked this comment from your userpage:

Jesus' teachings don't support preventive warfare or supply-side economics. I strongly support gay rights, including marriage equality. My philosophical views are influenced by Kant, Kierkegaard and Paul Tillich. With Kant, I claim that reason should deal with what can be known, while faith should deal with what cannot be known but must be believed.

I agree on all points! Best, Aristophanes68 (talk) 01:40, 4 August 2009 (UTC) (SF)

Thanks for the kind words. It's sometimes frustrating when the culture-at-large wants to pretend that the only options are the militant atheists (Dawkins, Hitchens et al.) and the "religious right" (which, as far as I can tell, is neither religious nor right); I feel that both of those alternatives spectacularly miss the point of Christ's life and teachings. I should also thank you for reminding me about that part of my userpage, which was quite outdated (with its references, now removed, to the previous occupant of the White House). Regards, Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 02:01, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
I noticed you deleted those -- I got a chuckle realizing that I made you look at your userpage for the first time since the Inauguration! I agree with you about the false-choice between atheists and theocrats: like the old proverb says, when presented with two options, choose the third. Cheers! Fingering Batman

Heya, I was thinking that maybe some discussion could be had about your edit regarding the addition of Bill Finger in the infobox. As the Lede is the overview of the article, the infobox is sort of like the "index card" for the article. I would suggest that Finger being mentioned might be a valid request. Would you like to discuss the matter further? - Arcayne (cast a spell) 13:02, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

I've started a section at Talk:Batman. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 14:27, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

Request for help

Dear Josiah,

2 random blaggards named Bastin and John Carter have repeatedly vandalized my page and I solemnly think it needs to stop! They keep on insulting my intelligence and from what I have heard you are a good administrator who helps people out! The best way you can help me is to block these fools immediately!

Lots of Love, God bless,

More Request

Dear Josiah,

It is I! I come ask for your aid again. The same blaggards insulted one of the editors who were clearly expressing their beliefs. I implore you (PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!) to give them some kind of caution to back off and block them for sometime. I have heeded your sapient, sagacious words of wisdom and these foul editors needed to be chastised and punished. Since, I have no authority to do that I beg you from the pits of my bleeding heart to punish them!

Lots of Love, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!, God Bless You at keep you!

"Article traffic stats"

May I congratulate you on your most persuasive table, added to WP:RFD#Lord Byron just over an hour before the discussion closed. I would have loved to comment on it, had the topic not been locked. Excerpts:

Article Link to stats Hits in June 2009
Richard Byron, 2nd Baron Byron [2] 6
William Byron, 3rd Baron Byron [3] 1
William Byron, 4th Baron Byron [4] 30
George Byron, 9th Baron Byron [5] 3
Frederick Byron, 10th Baron Byron [6] 2
Rupert Byron, 11th Baron Byron [7] 112
Richard Byron, 12th Baron Byron [8] 4

These stats are not only false but impossible: these specific articles did not exist in June 2009. Rupert's was created in August, the rest in November, yet this table confidently reports traffic stats up to 112 in June! And no doubt many who read it will believe it. Sizzle Flambé (/) 07:03, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

Well, the stats page says, "This is very much a beta service ... Questions or comments should go to User:Henrik." I used it in good faith, and the larger point I was making still stands: the vast majority of people searching for "Lord Byron" would be looking for the poet, not any of the other Lords Byron. I'm sure that the discussion was properly closed. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 08:01, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
Then why did you go all the way back to June 2009? You said, "statistics for other months are roughly comparable (with the exception of November 2009....)" — but November 2009 is the first month all those articles actually existed to have genuine traffic stats; the only month you actually could compare their stats for. In good faith, then, that is the month you would need to show. You avoided doing so. Sizzle Flambé (/) 08:24, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
Because I didn't know that the articles had all been created in November. When the statistics tool said that there were no hits for one of the articles, I did go back and check its history, and saw that it had been created in November. I assumed — apparently wrongly — that any others which did not exist at that time would have generated the same result. I don't know why the tool said that there were hits for articles which did not exist; perhaps it registered people clicking on red links, looking for those articles. I don't know.
Yes, I avoided using November, because I assumed that there had been more activity on those articles as a side-effect of the discussion which began in November. I apologize for the error, but I'm sure that it made little or no difference in the closing of the dispute. You can see the stats for November for yourself on the stats tool; I'm sure that despite whatever increase the creation of the other articles and the discussion have generated, the results will still show that the author of Don Juan had far and away more traffic than any of the other holders of his title. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 19:00, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

K-9 edit

Josiah the Producers (Penny Wall of Stewart-Wall-Entertainment) of K-9 made corrections to the wiki entry last Friday which you have reversed. I'm not sure how you credential her changes on the page but the information as it exists at the moment is incorrect especially the legal structure of who made it and who has credits. The first 13 eps were corrected for sequence and name but you have changed them back. I am acting as her web advisor so come back to me with your advice Wallabyd (talk) 05:39, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

Replied at User talk:Wallabyd. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 06:12, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

K-9 edits

Josiah Referring back to the edits done by Penny Wall of Stewart Wall Entertainment on the 4th December. The citation 11 at the end of the paragraph changed to correctly reflect the production and distribution arrangements, supports those changes - see the contents of the Film Finance Corporation Australia release . There is no citation given for the original inaccurate wording of that section 'Production and development' and I wonder who the original author was and what was their source. Penny's edit is supported by the contents of the the right hand panel which gives the correct data , except for an incorrect precedence order of names. The other major edit was to the episode names and order. the Metal Mutt web side used as credential was an internal crew only user password protected and is not for general access. Penny was quite disturbed to find it referenced and able to be backdoored to that page. It has not been refreshed for some time since close of shooting, and the data in there is not current. As you can see the incorrect name for the first ep has already generated comment. It is not my intention to put these eps into the web site so how do you intend to correct this?

I point out strongly that Disney XD did not make K-9 nor initiate or subcontract the K-9 production. They were approached to distribute it. Producers make product not distributors. The producers take strong exception to the wording and I will be changing it back to the Penny Wall edited version if I don't hear back from you. You can email me at I am Penny's brother and IT advisor. Wallabyd (talk) 08:08, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Many thanks Josiah, Penny is very pleased with the tidying and editing you did. I have made one minor adjustment by including the word television infront of the word series to differentiate film and other rights pre existing and future. I will after discussing with Penny include the episode titles and sequence on Stewart & Walls website so that they can be credentialed back into the wiki.Wallabyd (talk) 23:24, 17 December 2009 (UTC)
Glad to be of service. Let me know if you do put the episode titles on the website, and I'll put them on the page here — and thanks! —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 01:58, 18 December 2009 (UTC)

I've nominated List of former Jews, List of former Christians, and List of former Muslims together for deletion: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of former Jews.Kitfoxxe (talk) 15:40, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

I think I've only ever edited one of those, once, and that was to remove Jeremiah Wright from List of former Muslims (when that article was being attacked by vandals in the lead-up to the 2008 Presidential election). But I took a look at the AfD anyway. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 22:20, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
