Gavin Grimm draft article

[edit]

Hi - I noticed that you started a draft of an article on Gavin Grimm (which is currently a redirect), but haven't updated it in a couple of years. Are you still planning to post it? I think there's certainly enough for a full article (his case was just in the news again today), and there a few photos of Gavin (mostly taken by me) on Commons. Funcrunch (talk) 04:50, 27 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Funcrunch: Hello! I had totally forgotten about that draft. I hadn't planned on posting it myself, but if you'd like to work off it and post, be my guest. Good luck! --Kbabej (talk) 15:04, 27 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Stan VanderWerf - Wikipedia Page

[edit]

Hi! I'm working on the Stan VanderWerf page and wanted to make sure it meets the requirements for Wikipedia. I'm relatively new in contributing to Wikipedia and my interest is in learning how to create good living biography pages. I hope to create more biographies that can help people find factual information about significant people who are contributing to the community at large. I would greatly appreciate any tips you can give!

Currently, I'm working on citations that will meet the General notability guidelines. Also, gathering citations to show that Mr. VanderWerf is major local political figures who has received significant press coverage. On the page, I noticed that there are some problems with local citations. I'm now working to find more prominent, recognized articles.

Mr. VanderWerf is a highly decorated veteran. I'm working to place his military decorations into the article as factual support.

I noticed that some of the verbiage used is considered promotional, which I'm adjusting now. I've been reading the guidelines closely and I'm working to make sure that I meet those guidelines in the articles I create.

I would appreciate any tips you can give me to better this article. I'm using other living biographies like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Cotton as guides to creating a good biography page.

Is there anything specifically I can be working on to help this page? Your expertise helps so much!

Thank you, for your insight! It's much appreciated!

PeytonRose (talk) 18:19, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! 73.186.215.222 My original intention was to get the page started because I'd like to begin recognizing Military Veterans who have served and received Medals of Honor in Active Duty and then went on to make contributions in society. The information looked relevant, although it was promotional. So I attempted to delete any promotional language and start citing authoritative information. Several wiki editors have helped with this page since I created it. I haven't created a living biography before. So the info I found looked like a solid place to start. The page looks like it has become much more encyclopedic since its first iteration. PeytonRose (talk) 16:58, 24 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

September reviews

[edit]

It seems like your GAN for Bobbi Brown is listed for a longer time than my GAN nomination for the music group BTS. If you could do the review for the BTS article then I could offer to do the review for your nomination to try to move the articles forward. What do you think? ErnestKrause (talk) 20:06, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • @ErnestKrause: To be honest, I haven't reviewed an article for GAN before. I can look into how to do it, though. Sounds like it could be a good opportunity for me to expand my WP knowledge. I'm down! I'll try and start it tomorrow. Kbabej (talk) 16:37, 3 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • @ErnestKrause: Hello again. I looked over the article, and found this discussion where more experienced editors than I came to the conclusion the article was basically a "quick fail" because you had not contributed substantially to it. At that time, Nkon21 pointed out you had "contributed 0.1% to the total content of the page". When I checked just now, your edits are 0.3% authorship on the page (as of writing this). Maybe I'm confused, but why are you bringing this article to GAN? --Kbabej (talk) 20:27, 4 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Gigi Goode Name

[edit]

Howdy, I saw you undid my edit on Goode's page about their name, do you have a link where she says to use Gigi as her name from now on? On most of the articles I have been reading, they use the name "Samuel Steven Geggie" but don't want to use that if that's incorrect. Thank you, I don't want to dead-name them!

Mare Micksen (talk) 02:28, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Mare Micksen: Do you have any RS using that name after Goode came out as trans? Because unless they stated they’re still using that name, it’s almost certainly a dead name. —Kbabej (talk) 02:31, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Kbabej: After I posted on your page I found some sources that support she is legally changing her name "I identify as a trans/nonbinary person and I prefer she/her pronouns," Goode said, stipulating that she is legally changing her name to Gigi which is a long and strenuous process." https://www.out.com/drag/2021/8/29/drag-races-gigi-goode-just-came-out-trans-discusses-transition so you were right my bad. Would it be appropriate to include their birth name as a born as part, such as how it is on Caitlyn Jenner's page? "Caitlyn Marie Jenner (born William Bruce Jenner, October 28, 1949) is an American media personality and retired Olympic gold medal-winning decathlete." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caitlyn_Jenner . Thank you!
@Mare Micksen: Thanks for looking that up. The policy you’re thinking of is MOS:GENDERID, which states it’s only included if someone is notable under that name. That wouldn’t be the case for Gigi. No one knows them under the dead name. —Kbabej (talk) 03:52, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Kbabej: ah thank you, will have to read up on that. Sounds good will leave as is.
@Mare Micksen: Thanks for trying to improve the article! If you need help with anything just ask. --Kbabej (talk) 18:35, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Robert Durst

[edit]

You are completely wrong not including the news today that Durst has COVID-19 and is on a ventilator in the top section. Completely. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.49.110.206 (talk) 04:46, 17 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, @68.49.110.206: I manually reverted the changes to the lead based on WP:RECENTISM, which states WP needs to be balanced and not inflated with breaking news stories. That is the definition of a breaking news story, and it is already covered in the 'personal life' section. --Kbabej (talk) 15:21, 18 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The fact he does have COVID-19 and on a ventilator, combined with his numerous co-morbidity (2 kinds of cancer, water on the brain) makes this more than just breaking news. It's highly likely he'll die and relatively soon. I suppose you'll consider that breaking news also..... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.49.110.206 (talk) 21:46, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@68.49.110.206: I would encourage you to read MOS:LEAD, which states (in part) "The lead serves as an introduction to the article and a summary of its most important contents. It is not a news-style lead or "lede" paragraph... The lead should stand on its own as a concise overview of the article's topic." The lead section is not for rapidly changing news that frequently needs to be updated. I would also encourage you to open a talk page discussion on the Robert Durst article here if you do not agree; I'm definitely not the arbiter of all WP content. Other editors may agree with you. Cheers! --Kbabej (talk) 22:07, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
"It gives the basics in a nutshell of the article....As a general rule of thumb, a lead section should contain no more than four well-composed paragraphs"
A basic is he's dying. There are only two paragraphs in the lead section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.49.110.206 (talk) 22:15, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop undoing cited information in the Michael Bates article

[edit]

I understand you may have some admiration of Michael Bates and Sealand,(as evident by you including his utterly unrecognized "royal titles"), but Sealand is not only unrecognized by every nation on earth, but is also specifically denoted as unrecognized by almost every source about Sealand, with the BBC specifically stating "Such nostalgia of a place shouldn’t dilute the complexities of Sealand’s contested geopolitical circumstances. No country formally recognises Sealand, even if Prince Michael says the micronation has never asked for recognition." Michael Bates is not a sovereign, and Sealand is not even a micronation according to any metric giving that kind of claim legitimacy.

Chastizement (talk) 05:33, 1 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Chastizement: Where are you getting that "Sealand is not even a micronation..."? Have you looked at the Sealand article? There's almost a dozen sources on that page alone (as of this writing) that refer to the subject as a micronation. The WP micronation article states "A micronation expresses a formal and persistent if unrecognized claim of sovereignty over some physical territory". By definition, Sealand matches that, and to say "unrecognized micronation" is redundant. --Kbabej (talk) 20:16, 1 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information in articles is not required to be independently notable

[edit]

Please do not remove information from articles only because the information is not notable. WP:N explicitly says: "The notability guideline does not determine the content of articles, but only whether the topic should have its own article." Items in embedded lists also do not have to be independently notable. WP:LISTBIO makes this explicit: "Inclusion in lists contained within articles should be determined by WP:SOURCELIST, in that the entries must have the same importance to the subject as would be required for the entry to be included in the text of the article according to Wikipedia policies and guidelines..."

Thanks! ElKevbo (talk) 00:49, 13 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@ElKevbo: Can you point to the article and information you're referencing? Most all the material removed today is not in any way appropriate, with people adding themselves and friends onto alumni lists. Are you talking about edits like this? --Kbabej (talk) 00:50, 13 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Many of your recent edits have done this. A few examples include this, this, this, and this, among many others. I acknowledge that some of those are not well-formatted but many of the sources are perfectly acceptable. Except for stand-alone list articles, it is inappropriate to remove information from an article only because it's not notable. Please stop. ElKevbo (talk) 00:57, 13 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I have no specific objection to removal of unsourced information, notable or not. ElKevbo (talk) 00:58, 13 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I will open a discussion on the Education portal about this, but in the meantime I'll take the suggestion and just remove unsourced additions of NN alumni. --Kbabej (talk) 23:39, 13 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You are welcome to open a discussion but "Consensus among a limited group of editors, at one place and time, cannot override community consensus on a wider scale. For instance, unless they can convince the broader community that such action is right, participants in a WikiProject cannot decide that some generally accepted policy or guideline does not apply to articles within its scope." ElKevbo (talk) 23:49, 13 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
