I have moved this material from the draft talk page in order to preserve it here, since the draft has been nominated for deletion, and its talk page will be deleted if it is deleted. Robert McClenon (talk) 00:33, 28 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Page has been cleaned up of promo and made purely factual. Legacypac (talk) 16:40, 13 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Robert McClenon: & @Legacypac:, are you able to review the latest submission? Like you said, we have cleaned up the promo verbiage and added more sources. We also merged the brands' pages into one parent page to make the information more direct. --Kyle.T.Welch (talk) 17:37, 22 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Recent Help on Race Winning Brands

[edit]

Hello, Robert. This month you gave us a few suggestions to edit a Wiki page. I took to those suggestions, greatly edited the page, removing all promo-talk, etc. Is there any way you could take another look at it, please? And let me know if the page can be published? Draft:Race_Winning_Brands Thanks for all your help! Kyle.T.Welch (talk) 16:14, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

User:Kyle.T.Welch - Did you read the banner at the top of my talk page when you posted this request? First, I do not normally follow a submission through the approval process. However, second, you are a single-purpose account with a history of only editing Race Winning Brands and its subsidiaries. This behavior, focusing only on one set of companies, is usually typical of conflict of interest editors. You have not made a conflict of interest disclosure? Should you? If you actually do not have an association with Race Winning Brands, and really just want to contribute to Wikipedia, you can help at least as well with the 5.5 million articles that we already have as well as with one that we do not yet have. Robert McClenon (talk) 17:45, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
User:Kyle.T.Welch - In my opinion, the draft is not much of an improvement. It is still about what the company says about itself, not what others have said about it. The improvement is only that it is now one draft and not seven. I can ask for another reviewer at the Teahouse. It doesn't appear that the draft is about to be accepted, but I will still ask whether there is a self-serving reason why you are interested only in this draft article. Robert McClenon (talk) 17:45, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Comments

[edit]

I have gone ahead and declined this again. I will explain that there are two different concerns that we try to address at Articles for Creation, which are notability and tone. A corporate article should satisfy corporate notability and should be written from a neutral point of view. This article is closer to a neutral point of view than it had been, but it still consists of what the company says about itself. Maybe it isn't possible to find enough material about what others have said about the company to pass notability. If so, maybe the company isn't notable. In any case, I am still looking for the conflict of interest disclosure. Robert McClenon (talk) 18:31, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

COI DISCLOSURE

[edit]

Updated COI Disclosure

[edit]
User:Robert_McClenon & ::User:legacypac, more material has been added to address the notability concerns. As Race Winning Brands is the largest manufacturer of pistons and related engine components for the automotive and power sports performance markets, they intend to suggest or make updates to related pages and create new articles on Wikipedia in the future. This is the beginning of that process - factual information will be provided without any COI violations. We respect the Wikipedia editing process and are extremely appreciative of your time, comments, etc.

Regarding the COI disclosure, I work for a marketing company and Race Winning Brands is a client. I did not intend to disrespect the process. With this said, did I correctly label this article as a COI? I have written very fact-based, not PR-based, article using external links, links from other published Wikipedia pages like Kinderhook Industries and Dover Corporation, and have removed all promotional jargon from the article. Kyle.T.Welch (talk) 20:44, 27 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Why We Are Here and Where to Discuss

[edit]

At this point, the key question is not whether to promote this draft into article space, but whether to demote it into the bit bucket. Since a decision to delete the draft will also delete this talk page, any comments that are meant to survive the deletion, e.g., about the editor, should be taken to User talk:Kyle.T.Welch. Robert McClenon (talk) 23:04, 27 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you, User:Kyle.T.Welch, for the disclosure. I have added the disclosure to your userpage, which is the proper place for it.
On the notability of Race Winning Brands, I don't see it happening. The guideline is WP:CORP. The company appears to be primarily involved in Pistons, and yet that article doesn't mention the company. For an article on the company to be viable, the sourced material needs to comment on the company in the context of the industry, alongside, with comparison with other piston manufacturers. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 23:52, 27 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I will note that although User:Kyle.T.Welch is now in compliance with the disclosure requirement and there is now one draft, nominated for deletion, rather than seven, the full disclosure seems to have been made only after being asked to make it, and the drafts on the subsidiaries were not deleted by Kyle Welch, but pursuant to the Wikipedia deletion process, and much of the promotional material was removed by User:Legacypac. User:Kyle.T.Welch - If you accept pay to edit Wikipedia on behalf of any future corporate clients, you will be expected to make the conflict of interest disclosure voluntarily and to avoid introducing puffery in the first place. Robert McClenon (talk) 00:50, 28 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • When first creating the page, the COI was added during the time I spent practicing in the Sandbox. It was not added to the page simply because it was forgotten - user error. The promotional verbiage was not removed by LegacyPac, it was removed by me. LegacyPac deleted the second draft page of Race Winning Brands, fixed the section headers that were external links, which I did not know was not acceptable. User:Legacypac has been very helpful. User:Robert_McClenon & User talk:SmokeyJoe, thank you for your help as well!
In the future, this company will be active on Wikipedia as they have years of experience in the automotive part manufacturing industry - especially in pistons, camshafts, etc. and have a rich history in the automotive industry as a whole. Race Winning Brands is actively acquiring more automotive part companies, patents and products, as well as expanding their manufacturing efforts - This Wikipedia page will be updated, if published, constantly. And we will encourage the company to make updates and share their factual knowledge on each page that is appropriate. They have a lot to bring to the automotive industry sections of Wikipedia, which at this time is quite weak.
